Caribbean Princess offers the best of older and newer ships

  • ** UPDATE: I went back on Caribbean Princess in March 2024. For an updated perspective on the ship, check out: • Is Caribbean Princess ...
Even though Caribbean Princess is an older ship, she still has a lot to offer. On a Canada/New England repositioning cruise from Quebec City to Fort Lauderdale I was pleasantly surprised to experience the amenities of older ships along with the technology of newer ships. Although the ship does look dated in some areas and I experienced unprofessional behavior in the casino, the food, amenities, service, musicians and nightlife were all excellent. Is Caribbean Princess worth considering for your next cruise? Join me for a full review.

Thank you, a great review. We have sailed on her in Sept 2015 Southampton to NYC for 15 days, it was great. Now this year we are booked for June 14 for the 16 day Norway cruise. So excited. Thx a lot.

CP was the first Princess ship I ever cruised on and the one I've been on most often as I live in FL. My last cruise on her was this past November and I admit she was showing her age. She still feels like an old friend though. I hope she enjoys her time on the West coast. I will miss her but am looking forward to the new Sun Princess.

I Just booked this never taking Princess before. The majority of the reviews are horrible. Food especially. I am not even looking forward to it.
It looks extremely dated and the balcony cabins are tiny. There looks like too many lounges and bars.
I am used to Celebrity and RC

So far, so good! I have not had any "dismal" experiences with the ship's condition or unpleasant smells. Yes, the ship tells her "story" once in a while where there is small evidence of age, but 98% is perfect. Thanks again, @@TheChillCruiser

Thank you for sharing the configuration inside of the Ocean View rooms. I've just reserved 2 rooms with the beds on the side walls. I believe they will not be an issue if/when the main bed is separated in two, as twin beds, with the free floor space in the middle instead of to the sides.

We did the reverse cruise summer of 22, Ft Lauderdale to Quebec City. Fabulous cruise . We loved hanging out at the Terrace pool on deck 14 . Besides weak AC, we were very satisfied. As it was summer school holiday period, there were many multi generational cruisers.

Just got off the Caribbean Princess and while the food was good ,it is coming apart and is going into dry dock this fall for repairs. Tiles are missing near the pool. Don’t recommend this ship until it comes out of dry dock.

This is an excellent review and I also like this class of ship. I sailed on Ruby Princess in 2019 for a 32 night transpacific cruise from Vancouver BC to my home port of Sydney Australia. I have also sailed on Majestic Princess and agree with your assessment. I recently sailed on the P&O Australia ship Pacific Adventure which was previously the Golden Princess but unfortunately P&O Australia was very disappointing on every level and the ship was sadly neglected.

Thank You. The wife and I are sailing on her in 2 weeks, looking forward even more to it after watching this.
It looks very nice. It might be a bit "dated" to some, but to this 60-year old it looks just fine. We don't need cutting-edge design, just a nice and comfy bed in a clean room - we don't plan to spend too much of our waking hours there anyway. And after dealing with the zoo on Allure OTS, a smaller ship will be just fine, thank you!

Great review, but amazing how experiences can vary. Coincidentally we just sailed the Caribbean Princess 16 days in August and the Majestic Princess for 21 days in October. We had the opposite experience and thought the leadership in the Majestic had their act much more together, as the food in the buffet was much much better in quality and selection, and the MDR experience was on a whole other level on the Majestic. The Majestic MDR was quiet with very attentive waiters, who even had the time to sing guitar duets for us most nights. The Caribbean MDR was chaos with people lined up and fighting every night at the Allegro to get tables even though all had reservations. Every night people were assigned a different table. The MDR room was noisy and we had bad service each night even with different waiters. The food came so slowly that after about a week we just gave up and went to the buffet. Their dining MDR “process” just wasn’t working. Numerous complaints to the hosts/managers didn’t help. Also loved having an indoor pool and the free adult Hollywood Conservatory as a quiet retreat on Majestic, although sky walkers on the the top of the Caribbean was also a nice quiet space. Also enjoyed having a full size shower in Majestic, instead of a RV size mini shower in the Caribbean. Bottom line, each has their own pros and cons and we had a great experience on both ships.

Wow - that's incredible how you had the opposite experience on the same ships! There are so many variables at play in terms of itinerary, capacity, demographics, management rotations etc. but it's unfortunate that the experience on Princess ships can be so inconsistent. I'm on the Sky Princess soon so it will be interesting to see how it compares. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience!

We just disembarked this ship less than a week ago. This ship needs a complete overhaul or be scrapped. Bar service was terrible. Rips in seating, broken table lamps, peeling gold within elevators , buffet was ick. Since 2019, I have been on 10 cruises, 4 different cruise lines and this was definitely the worst, unfortunately. I wouldn’t recommend this ship to anyone in its current condition.

Oh bugger! Just booked a 16 night cruise on this ship. Saving grace is that I never do buffet on any ship. Not a fan of buffets and as folk behave like cattle let loose at feeding time I steer clear. Especially as you see such disgusting behaviour of handling, grabbing, coughing and sneezing over food. Even seen people pick food up with hands, sniff and replace. Not surprised people fall in. But thanks for heads up.

@@TheChillCruiser OK I hope it is at least good. I found that even on the large RC the menu was basically the same over a 25 year span. And wasnt really any better with the larger ships.
I liked the higher rated Celevbrity ships the best-food wise. The Blu restaurant was really good.
Seems most new ships are having “segregation” of the rich folks to their own restaurants and their own lounge areas.
So they never have to see us “common folks” through their entire stay.
I do know that since covid, many are not even going to their offices and working out of their laptops so they can be on a cruise-maybe even deduct a suite?
The cruise industry is also growing because so many are migrating from big cities to Florida.
Jacking up the home prices and the cruise prices and definitely many more cruisers than ever before.
Except my son goes to places like Iceland and hates cruises now. Young professionals are much fancier than cruises. Unless they have to work on them.
Believe it or not , 10 years ago we would go on a 4 day cruise through celebrity and get drink packages included for under 400.00!!
