Speaking as both a player and GM, never, NEVER, interrupt your GM while monologuing. You will both A) make the monologue last longer, and B) incur the wrath of someone who obviously spends far too much time writing up long winded agony. This comes from experience in both situations.
Unless you interrupt the monologue in character, or as the hypothetical thing happened the monologue was a minute long and was used as cover to cast the spell. Of course it has to be appropriate for your character to do so, and not just because you thought the DM was being annoying, such as a stealthed character the NPC hasn't spotted taking an action such as stealing, placing trap(s) or simply attacking. But if you want to try to do stuff while an NPC is doing a monologue try to interrupt in the beginning or it will piss off your DM regardless because now he's reading the "awesome" monologue awkwardly from the middle of it or lost his train of thought and now he's going to munchkin against party into oblivion as retaliation.

Nope. Here's the play-by-play assuming Altruishus only has melee attacks. - Altruishus(A) starts further than 30 ft away from the spellcasters (if the spellcasters are smart and stay back) - runs in, too far away to attack. Either he dashes or he goes for the opportunity attacker (O) - bad either way. Assuming he dashes, the spellcasters back all the way up, and keep moving the sphere. Return to step 1. - OR he tries to go for O, maybe gets a good hit, but the spellcasters are close enough to do heals if they need to, and now A is locked in combat with a Sentinel with a reach weapon. And he still gets bashed by fire damage. Return to step one. Lose-lose scenario.
@@bendromeda1688 You're assuming that O succeeds on their attacks. Considering that he's presented as a boss, he probably has class levels, likely Barbarian or Monk, which provides him further resistance and potential ability to evade the spells. It's just another level about how screwed his in in that case, the fact that even if he disengages he's going to be attacked again leaving him with. Sit and take his turn and be burned to a crisp, then attacked rinse and repeat or run blowing his actions, be attacked, then rinse and repeat. Basically it's just a lesson in why spell casters tend to beat melee characters once you get access to fun spells like flaming sphere.
not at all he's doing an intro unless he doesn't let them retort this is well in bounds meanwhile she's whining in a way wayy worse break from the point of the meeting
We once did a similar combo but it was a druid and a barbarian. The druid cast Wall of Thorns then the barbarian shoved the enemy to the wall as his first attack dealing 7d8 slashing damage, then he'd grapple him as his 2nd attack to keep him on the wall. At the start of the enemy's turn he takes another 7d8 slashing damage. The barbarian on his next turn would then drag him out of the wall, then drag him back in to repeat the cycle (all this time the rest of the party was taking potshots at him as well). All the enemy could do was either shove the barbarian away or break free of the grapple.
This is why a party of light clerics is utterly terrifying. Couple this with spiritual weapon and the entire party is can surround the enemy and beat them to a pulp in a matter of seconds. Takes a bit of setup time but my god is it absolutely worth it

But yeah. Excellent animation as always, Zee. You've been on a roll lately.

fire is a very common element. and tends to have good damage values cause its so common that people get resistance too
"You're being rude"
HES LITERALLY THE BAD GUY! WHAT DO YOU WANT HIM TO DO, FLUFF YOUR PILLOW? lol
Seems like she's the rude one for interrupting his monolog.
@@Halvos12 exactly, I'm sure he worked really hard on it too. SMH, villains and Showmen get no respect or consideration these days.
Well she's an obnoxious, self-righteous bitch. What do you expect?
@@Halvos12 A villain is obligated to monologue. He signed the contract.
"Oh, also it can burns stuff down" *smiles gleefully*
You can never go wrong with a sassy bbw dragonborn
Combine this with metamagic transmute spell and create an ice sphere or a thunder sphere to avoid burning down the town.
I think RAW it still would. That's... weird.
What you just made was a video on how to bully your DM and I am here for it.
They will still take an opportunity attack from the sentinel because the sentinel feat allows you to make one even if they disengage.
Is it wrong that I feel like the Pro wrestler Villain was somehow more polite than the Dragonborn despite all the self hype
Yeah he was just trying to say his bit .. She didn't have to clip his wings like that XD
not at all he's doing an intro unless he doesn't let them retort this is well in bounds meanwhile she's whining in a way wayy worse break from the point of the meeting
I feel like she was purposefully giving him shit to throw him off and catch him off guard.
@@Grab_001 Of course she was ..
Absolutely… she accuses him of monologuing, then proceeds to monologue herself
"It was a while back and I had Hope's n dreams" hitting close to home there
We once did a similar combo but it was a druid and a barbarian. All the enemy could do was either shove the barbarian away or break free of the grapple.
you can TECHNICALLY move through the sphere. the damage only comes from ramming and ending your turn next to it
This is why a party of light clerics is utterly terrifying. Couple this with spiritual weapon and the entire party is can surround the enemy and beat them to a pulp in a matter of seconds. Takes a bit of setup time but my god is it absolutely worth it
"How did you catch him?"
"We burned the forest down."
Lovely reference...!
"It can burn stuff down"
>flashbacks of Puffin's boat horror story
Here's how to deal with this situation as the bad guy, grapple one of the mages (or both) and ram them against their own flaming spheres
And he even claims he's a wrestler in his monologue.
Bro I wouldn't think about that. But it would totally work they're definitely going to die before you or at least lose concentration
I just fuckin love how natural the dialogue sounded!
DM: Okay, we'll end the session standing outside of the friendly wood elf camp.
Druid: I won't be able to make next session.
DM: No worries, it's probably going to be a roleplay session without anything important.
*2 sessions later*
Druid: Sorry about missing last session. What did I miss?
DM: So, you find yourself standing in a burnt down forest, surrounded by the corpses of every wood elf in the camp, including the women and children.
"It was a while ago and I had hopes and dreams." I have never related to something so much.
That dragonborn wants to see your DM's manager
she's never shopping here AGAIN!
And its more efficient than 'Just Fireball'.
**sneers in JoCat**
FIREBALL USERS *HATE* HIM!
@@saber1epee0 JoCat isn’t the de-facto person for wizardry, though.
Man that dragonborn at the beginning was so realistically written like a snobby/hypocritical conversationalist it made me anxious. Their sentinel feat also applies to their control of conversations apparently lol
Quick "Um, Actually" here, but the Sentinel feat allows you to make an attack of opportunity even if your opponent Disengages. Because why not. That means your opponent is EXTRA screwed in this situation because unless that Barbarian is using spells like Misty Step or is being tossed by Thunderwave or something like that, he's not getting out of there without being pinned by a spear.
But yeah. Excellent animation as always, Zee. You've been on a roll lately.
This sounds like a queue for the DM to say "Oops all demons/ infernals"
Unless you’re a sorcerer… and can transmute spells! Who’s the GOD now!
@@SithBy11 Asmodeus has some fierce competition
You know I clicked this expecting some cheesy exploit, and instead I saw a pretty standard but efficient use of Flaming Sphere explained. What a pleasant surprise.
Weird detail my party and I discovered when it comes to Flaming Sphere. Technically, Darkness dispels it because the spell description for FS includes that it sheds light while the spell description for Darkness states that it dispels any spell of 2nd level or lower that creates an area of light.
Neat, didn't know that!!!
Darkness snuffs out Moonbeam and Faerie Fire too.
I was wondering what the accent was of the dragonborn and then I realized when I heard "oh issit now?" South African through and through
... oh really? I guess a Cali-boy like me is suddenly South African now. Huh... neat.
This man is like the uncle Dane of dnd aka a man that gives advice in a fun way and is easy to understand with out to much being shoved down your throat
"it was a while back and I had hopes and dreams." will be part of my character backstory. xD
I'm afraid that is most people's backstory.
@@derekstein6193 Usually from what I've seen, they have revenge back stories. Whether it's their parents, friends, or land getting burned down, ect.
"Also, it can burn stuff down." *Jocat furiously takes notes*
At first I didn’t realize he was the bad guy because they were almost arguing like an old couple
Oh, that ending is just adorable. Like D&D players AREN'T going to burn the forest regardless, lol.
