If young people need cheap clothes, is resale/ used/ making your own and - pressuring big brands to use more sustainable practices not better?

Not sure about the clothing. I tend to go on the third party resale and thrifting. I tried some of the Chinese apps like Temu for things that American resalers market up too much. I bought a few things like clothes hangers or phone case. I don't feel like paying $20-30 for case when I can just pick up a simple phone case for $5. Even some of the products Amazon sells are from China.

Galloway plays a clever self-deception game by admitting how terrible the things he believes in are (including his own greed), while doing and supporting them. It makes him seem like a good guy, when he really isn't. He's so good at it, he even fools himself.

Shein allows young people with uncertain outcomes to spend money on clothes that are fast, fun and false economy.
This is about ROI, so it’s surprising considering how well Galloway advocates for young people.
Businesses like Shein promote the ever-increasing narrative that you can have cheap, pretty dresses, but you’ll never own a home, so why not get that adorable tank top as well?
Scott should be made to wear Shein exclusively, for a month 😂
Love this podcast and the Porf. G show is a cut above the rest ❤

I think it's the lipstick index. The 'lipstick index' says people buy more makeup when times get tough. Even if it's the little things, I want to feel pretty when the world makes it rough for me: low income, tough job market, ect.

I noted that my Amazon stock holdings have increased in the last few days. Thanks for the thorough explanations.

Knowledge, experience, investigative experience, history in the tech industry….plus, she’s just a very smart woman, augmented by a considerable dose of common sense. Need more?

You neglected to mention the constant self-aggrandizing, inability to critique the Left, LGBTQ-anything or be self-aware, the chronic interrupting or muttering...the non-stop self-promoting, name dropping, book pimping etc. And boy does she think the first line of her book is brilliant. How many times have we heard her quote it?

The problem with on demand cheap fashion is the shitty materials/quality which will not last long. Henceforth, these crappy, but stylish clothes will end up in the landfill much quicker than quality clothes from upscale brands. Additionally, you can cosign quality merchandise because there is a demand for them. Therefore, quality, more expensive clothes are better for the environment in the long run. I have a few pairs of Theory slacks that are over a decade old and they still hold their qualities much better than the craps that Shein sells.

    • @harmonybarry6182

@@tomtran614 it’s crazy when we are supposedly in a climate crisis, but this IPO contributes to landfills in an egregious way. It is the generation he is trying to protect, who will pay. It makes zero sense.
You don’t have to be a tree-hugging environmentalist to recognize the cognitive dissonance.

Maybe it might depend on how things are made. Uniqlo isn't known for expensive clothing but I think I have a pair of Uniqlo selvedge jeans that are probably more than 10 years old. Not sure if the quality changed.

@@peterparker2068 Uniqlo is an established brand. I'm referring to the low quality crap that Shein and Temu sell.

A truly cynical take from Scott. Very disappointed in his whataboutism; it will not age well. It’s shocking he of all people would take this kind of position given his concerns about the wealth gap and shrinking financial opportunities for young people yet has no problem taking their money on cheap thrills.
