I have to say I agree. I have been using the A6000 since I converted from Nikon to Sony. I have ordered the Sony A7iii and even when that arrives in two days time I will still be using my A6000. Some of the shots and video I have captured from that is amazing.

Ditching Sony for Fuji x-t3 here’s what I learned. 1. My Sony overheated quite often, I live in Florida. 2. 8bit 100mbs in 2020 is unacceptable! The 120fps video is ungradable it falls apart. 3. Color science is real and a big time saver at times. Skin tones on Sony look way too artificial. I color grade yes but not ALL the time. 4. AF is great but canon is better and Fuji is sooo close behind. Other thoughts: 1. You can get a Nikon z6 which can shoot 12bit prores externally if you want to do that down the road. 2. You can get the eos r which shoots internally higher 4K with a high data rate and 10bit externally. 3. Wait until Q2 of this year. Some incredible cameras are coming.
Dude, I agree with you. 8bit is the reason why I want to upgrade my camera. I got my Sony A7III last year and decided to sell it, because everyone here sells them. I think BMPCC 4K will fit my budget perfectly, maybe I'll get 6K version even, if save some money.
Alex Brightman man if you go with a bmpcc4k your video production quality is going to jump through the roof. This guy is saying specs don’t matter OF COURSE they do! 8bit compared to 12bit (a7iii vs bmpcc4k) is a huge leap forward. We’re talking about millions and millions more colors. The sensor although it’s m4/3s has a higher dynamic range and decent low light capabilities. Then again you are comparing a cinema camera to a stills camera. Video to me is much more important than still photography since EVERY camera even my wife’s 16MP G7 produces amazing pictures it’s not a big deal.
This is all depending on whether the a7iv is a refresh or a completely new camera from the ground up. If they stack the current sensor it will be a beast. We can look at bells and whistles like flippy screens and such but the a7iii became a leader due to its actual photographic performance, flippy screen excluded and it's still a leader. The menu is way more configurable than a Canon yet people complain about it even when an update created a personal menu. Yes the evf and screen need updating and the settings for video should be remembered when switching back and forth from modes. Stack that sensor and give either two uhs2 slots or internal memory and one uhs2 slot. The body is fine I like it small for weight on a gimbal. I would buy it.
Well, I did it. I ordered an a7III today. My wife is a little miffed at me, but yolo. Will still keep my a7RII though for landscape and use the a7III for birding/wildlife. Selling my a7II though.
Straight forward.... I own the a7iii and was thinking of getting another full frame Sony was leaning towards the a7R iii but keep going back to the a7iii after watching each review or comparison... So guess my a6100 is going to be sold and me second camera will be another a7iii...
The a7III is still a great camera. For a stills shooter like me, any of the a7 models regardless of generation are still great cameras. Hell I'm still using an a7II and a7RII in 2020 and have no urge to upgrade. I'm sure that it's a different situation for video shooters though.
The A7iii is my next camera. I’ve got a canon 80D (APSC) and the Sony Rx100m6. I’ve enjoyed shooting with the mark 6, even with its tiny sensor. What I can’t decide is first lens. Candidates are: Sony 24-105 F4, Sony 35mm F1.8 or Sigma 24-70 F2.8. I noticed on the list the 16-35 f4 was the walk around lens of choice. Better fit than 24-105? Is there a first lens I’m missing? I shoot a canon Nano USM 18-135 variable now along with a full frame canon 70-300 Nano USM m2. I know I want to get away from variable glass if possible. I know the kit lens is variable but I’ve heard it’s even better than canons 28-70 kit lens. The camera is the easy choice, glass is the hard choice.
currently rocking an A7 iii /A7R iii combo... amazing capabilities. yes lenses are expensive. but once you shoot with them and go back to different brands you’ll see why ... but you can get the 28mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 both for less than 1K ...
The A7III is Sony's "entry level" full frame camera. It is meant for the consumer/enthusiast/prosumer. Within this group, while the newest tech is cool, but if you ABSOLUTELY NEED the newest tech, then the problem might not be the age of the tech or the camera, the problem may be the person who can't effectively take a picture without the newest tech. The photographer is the most important factor in capturing a compelling image. The tech might make it easier, but it is still the creativity, the knowledge and the talent of the photographer that will be the difference. If you are a pro, then yes there is a totally legitimate need for the best gear available. It you are photographing the Olympics then you NEED to capture the shot, and the tech will be a huge factor. An A9II may be a legitimate job requirement. If you are a professional landscape photographer, then the 61mp of the A7RIV might give you the resolution to take your images to the next level. At the entry level, however, in most cases, the skill of the photographer will be the determining factor.

I'm glad you didn't had any problems with the A7III, I had it overheat multiple times during summer, while taking photos, and wasn't turned on. It either shuts down, or the AF goes balistic.
@@chrisbrockhurst I did, and the answer I got was that it happens in warm weather. It was 45C on those days, works perfectly during winter, autumn and spring.
Bought a7r2 a mounth ago for 1100$ in mint condition. The same 42mp sensor as in a7r3 for it's price seemed like a crazy deal for me. I think it is the best choice in 2020 if you are doing 80%+ photography, the IQ is really better than 24mp a73. The video quality in super35 is also great but don't recommend to buy it if you mostly shoot video.

Wdym is it still worth buying in 2020? It’s still the latest A7 model out from Sony so of course it’s worth buying. Still has basically the best low light performance of practically every camera and dynamic range and color range that matches all the top cameras so it’s still at the top of the pack two years after release, which is incredible.
Really good video, and even one year latter, without the A7IV! And I think it's funny, we see a bunch of people still using "old" Canon cameras, like 5D mark iii and IV, 6D mark II and so on! 3 years isn't old if that camera is still pretty good for you, and fit your needs! We have to get out of RUclips consumer frenzy on geting the latest and greatest, just because have the last tech, I would get the one that fits my needs

I have the Sony a AX 700 for video and this camera for stills and I can shoot video on it of course as well😊 for the Sony a7iii I made a ridiculously low price offer to someone on eBay and they surprisingly took it and I did the same thing with the video camera so I ended up with both of them for roughly $2000. I’m just throwing that strategy out there for anyone who wants a Camera but I can’t afford it like myself.
I currently have the Nikon D3500 and I love it as it's my first camera but this is the camera I'm hoping to save for this year, watched so many reviews and nothing has changed my mind so far. I do hope the price goes down though :')
Hi Chris, Solid video. Agree again with what you’ve said on pricing/good value for money, color “preference”, screen resolution (I use EVF mostly so don’t have a problem), af, 120fps slomo, lowlight, plethora of other features, etc. are all so spot on! In fact, lately I’ve been using with my EOSR more but since your previous two recent videos, I went back to A73 today and the af is really fast and responsive. For me, I set the responsiveness at high and fast at standard, and the af transitions smoothly from blur images/background to being in focus (as if it’s done on purpose). Eastcore also did a good comparison and paraphrasing, “both EOSR and A73 are fast” but A73 is more intelligent with their af system. And I can see why it is in real world use. See their video (a bit dated but still relevant): Eastcore review of EOSR vs. A73. ruclips.net/video/X6sBYdEzu8s/видео.html Nevertheless, it goes back to “use the tools that works best and/or does what you need.” For stills, it’s the A73 and/or EOSR, depending on the projects/use cases. If it requires redundancy such as weddings and/or family events that cannot be repeated/recaptured, then I go with the dual slot A73. Same with sports and wildlife where I need fast shooting. Otherwise, I mix it up with EOSR for other use cases. For video, it’s S1H for heavy setup and where fast af is not required (using mostly manual). For light setup and run and gun, it’s EOSR for daylight and A73 for lowlight.
that statement about the EOS and A7iii is spot on, both are fantastic, but the A7iii is still far more intelligent. I really like that, thanks for sharing
I purchased mine brand new, shutter died after less than 2000 shots over the course of 1 year, manufactured out of paper-thin shutters My A7Riii has been perfect, I may look at the iv when it comes out but I'd never waste that much money on a camera that the manufacturer won't repair an obvious manufacturing defect.
Sorry, prematurely sent. I wanted to add that holding the Sony a7iii with the GM24 f1.4 felt acceptable from a portability point of view I know the Fuji is a bit smaller. Thank you in advance for your time & response.
I have been saving up for this camera for a while. As I finally have saved enough for it I am also looking at the Fuji xt4 but over all I think I’m sticking with going with the a7iii
I love my two A73's, they do everything I need for my video shoots. Honestly all I'm looking for in the 4th iteration is removal of the 1.2x crop in 30fps mode and better ois.
@@CamillaI I haven't tried the A7R series so not sure. Part of the reason is if I'm going to spend that much on a camera, then it should have better OIS. Sony's OIS is just average right now that's why I stuck with the A73.
The video I was looking for, thanks man. Got a question though, one of my shops is selling the A7Riii for 2,200 usd, you think compared to the 7iii (2,000 usd) do you think that’s worth it? Using it for portraits and weddings mostly. Low light is often an issue with the cameras I have used. Not sure how big of a difference with the two in low light are.
@@chrisbrockhurst do you reckon I could get away with using the kit lens 28 70mm f3.5 - 5.6 for the time being for professional shoots whilst I'm on a budget

Really liked how you do u explain everything and compare between all other cameras , i liked how you always try to give affordable option and how to optimise photos so no differences will appear, keep it up , Greetings from middle east
of course it is. what's better that costs the same? nothing. A7iii with 35 1.8 /85 1.8 will cost less than an XT4 with 23. 1.4 / 56 1.2. That is freaking insane.
Let me tell you t his, you said 2 years is pretty old for camera tech. I still use the Sony A7 (mark i) from 2013, that's 7 years old and it still works absolutely fine. I might upgrade to the A7III / A7IV (when it got released) but for now, I will still use my A7 :)
Put your favorite and/or most used functions in the FN menu, or assign them to custom buttons, and you will wonder what all the fuss is about difficult Sony menus.
Totally agree with you Chris about the "colour science"- the a7iii is much better straight our of camera than on the earlier crop sensor ( a6000/6500) Sonys .

I agree. Only incremental changes are necessary
Just bought the a7iii this year. Still worth it in 2021!
i bought my a7iii after watching ur videos. and up to now i still love my a7iii and watching ur vids 👍👍👍
Just bought my second a7iii... this camera is everything I had been waiting for for years
Good for you! Matching A and B cams is great
Well, I did it. I ordered an a7III today. My wife is a little miffed at me, but yolo. Will still keep my a7RII though for landscape and use the a7III for birding/wildlife. Selling my a7II though.
I know that feeling haha. As you say, yolo!!
House much for the a7ii?
Sorry, I already have a buyer for it. Thanks though!
I will wait for the A7IV and then compare the two. Mainly because if I decide to go with the A7III at that point they will be cheaper.
Straight forward.... I own the a7iii and was thinking of getting another full frame Sony was leaning towards the a7R iii but keep going back to the a7iii after watching each review or comparison... So guess my a6100 is going to be sold and me second camera will be another a7iii...
I jumped on the Sony Train and even picked up a A7II recently.
Yes me too for video great so far
Sony a7iii with a 24-70gm is a beast!!!!!!!! Love my a7iii
simple answer yes. get it . one of the greatest cameras of its generation.
I still have the a7ii and love it for landscapes.
Still rockin my A6000, so yes the A73 is worthwhile for years to come Haha

ITS ON SALE RIGHT NOW ON AMAZON AND B&H FOR LIKE 1.7K FOR BLACK FRIDAY
Thanks Chris. I am seriously in the market. I'm leaning towards the A7III for sure.
Really solid points, Chris! I agree, still good stuff in 2020. I can’t think of one I’d want more (maybe the a7r4...but then the files are massive)
The average joe doesn’t need 60mp haha
The a7III is still a great camera. For a stills shooter like me, any of the a7 models regardless of generation are still great cameras. Hell I'm still using an a7II and a7RII in 2020 and have no urge to upgrade. I'm sure that it's a different situation for video shooters though.
Yes, it’s still a good camera. I highly recommend it. Appreciate the video fam.
Only bought mine in September and I love it!
The camera is the easy choice, glass is the hard choice.
currently rocking an A7 iii /A7R iii combo... amazing capabilities. yes lenses are expensive. but once you shoot with them and go back to different brands you’ll see why ... but
you can get the 28mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 both for less than 1K ...
A7III is definitely more than "prosumer" level. I think Sony just calls it that to trigger the egos of people so they buy more expensive models.
I think sony got that wrong during their translation, they probably meanth hybrid instead of basic - because its definitely not basic.

Chris :) This was SO HELPFUL! I'm in the market for a new (old) camera and I am landing on the A7iii, your video is confirming my direction! Thanks so much!
Can't wait for the A7IV to release....so I can get another A7III cheaper! A7III is just so perfect for me.
Not sure it will get much cheaper its such a good camera
Just got mine in the mail today!!!!! Thanks UPS for not leaving it out in the rain
The Alpha A7R III is Sony's latest high-resolution mirrorless camera, and an update of the excellent Alpha A7R II, which was responsible for tempting many a photographer away from the comfort of their
I'm glad you didn't had any problems with the A7III, I had it overheat multiple times during summer, while taking photos, and wasn't turned on. It either shuts down, or the AF goes balistic.
that's very odd, sounds like you should send it in for warranty
@@chrisbrockhurst I did, and the answer I got was that it happens in warm weather. It was 45C on those days, works perfectly during winter, autumn and spring.
Sony A7111 still king 👑 I own 3 my go to wedding beast
Bought a7r2 a mounth ago for 1100$ in mint condition. The same 42mp sensor as in a7r3 for it's price seemed like a crazy deal for me. I think it is the best choice in 2020 if you are doing 80%+ photography, the IQ is really better than 24mp a73. The video quality in super35 is also great but don't recommend to buy it if you mostly shoot video.
15 minutes packed full of useful information, British humour and genuine camera knowledge... but I'm subscribing based purely on your pronunciation of plethora...☺️
thankyou!!! glad you got the humour haha
It is still the best camera out there in terms of entry level.
agreed
The short answer is - yes. Best value for all of the capabilities that you get.
Me sitting over here with canon 1200d dreaming of better future ... ehhh.
The future is bright 😉
youll get a better future going sony, i paid less for my sony body that has better specs than the canon does that i bought for more money
@@funnylefishe1132 My point was that, asking is camera from not even 2 year worth buying is stupid. Many people cant even afford 1000+ dollars or what ever other currency, and I found that strange. And thank you, but not long ago I've pick up RP, very happy with this small camera, and my 1200d is fine to. :)
@@seraf1ta was just going after the fact that my Sony i recently picked up for 400€ was better in every single thing than my canon wich i paid like 300 more (700€) 1 year ago
@@funnylefishe1132 In the end it all comes to personal preference :) what ever make us happy. We all do different things, and have different visions ;)
I do hope the price goes down though :')
luke davies same here!!
A7iii is still the best entry level full frame on the market, so yes still worth it. Yes it has flaws, but bang for buck it’s better than all others.
Hi Chris,
Solid video.
See their video (a bit dated but still relevant):
Eastcore review of EOSR vs. A73.
ruclips.net/video/X6sBYdEzu8s/видео.html
Nevertheless, it goes back to “use the tools that works best and/or does what you need.”
For stills, it’s the A73 and/or EOSR, depending on the projects/use cases.
If it failed in the first year it would be covered under warranty
The a7iii does overheat and turn off. I happens to me twice. But that's because i did continuos recording for more than 2hrs
havnt ever had it happen myself
Well im here having the A7R mark ii, live and well.. zero complaints ;)
i buyed one today for 1.4 new! cant wait to recive it!!
Is it better for video than the A7R series?
@@CamillaI I haven't tried the A7R series so not sure. Part of the reason is if I'm going to spend that much on a camera, then it should have better OIS. Sony's OIS is just average right now that's why I stuck with the A73.
I'm waiting for the A7IV so I can get an a7III for like 1200!
haha you can always hope
That is too much! No one will buy a a7iv tnen. Everyboby will be buying a7iii in this case. Sony understand this. They will make a 200 $ discount
This video is right before the world ended, you can still see the glimmer in his eye.
Just bought it I'm excited to get started
Enjoy!!
@@chrisbrockhurst do you reckon I could get away with using the kit lens 28 70mm f3.5 - 5.6 for the time being for professional shoots whilst I'm on a budget
I only had heating issue once with A7iii. And that happened when I had 3rd party battery in it. Never happened with original one. So I think it has something to do with firmware. Anyway, great camera 👌
Im waiting to see what the A7IV specs will be like before I get the III or get a IV
Deciding a used A7ii at around 16k shutter and the A7iii brand new. Coming from a canon eos T6i rebel.
A7iii brand new. Huge difference in specs and tech from A7ii to A7iii
Good for wildlife photography
Just sold my Nikon D850 and LENSES due to financial issues , but man ,after watching your videos since early morning , i decided to try Sony Cam (when things get better hopefully)...
Really liked how you do u explain everything and compare between all other cameras , i liked how you always try to give affordable option and how to optimise photos so no differences will appear, keep it up , Greetings from middle east
I'm on the verge of buying the Sony A7III. Which lens would you recommend for shooting artwork (primarily oil paintings)? Thanks.
Sony colors are the most accurate, beside the color only matters if your shooting jpgs.
Just what I need to see and hear. Thx mate.
Cheers 😊
Yes of course. I'm a fan
of course it is. what's better that costs the same? nothing. A7iii with 35 1.8 /85 1.8 will cost less than an XT4 with 23. 1.4 / 56 1.2. That is freaking insane.
Excellent video mate, as always! :) Although I am looking forward to the A74 coming out - if it comes out!
Let me tell you t his, you said 2 years is pretty old for camera tech. I still use the Sony A7 (mark i) from 2013, that's 7 years old and it still works absolutely fine. I might upgrade to the A7III / A7IV (when it got released) but for now, I will still use my A7 :)
question should be Canon 5D mark ii - Still worth buying in 2020? ? Not A7III.. this is still the best camera for next 10 years
@sony please give us the ability to connect a SSD as recording media. Everything is there to do so.
Mine arrived this afternoon -- haven't played with it yet.
Well get on it!! Haha
@@chrisbrockhurst [22 hours later] Still working my way through the menus . . .

Totally agree with you Chris about the "colour science"- the a7iii is much better straight our of camera than on the earlier crop sensor ( a6000/6500) Sonys .
hugeeeeeelllllly better haha
Lord the a7ii is still good it’s an expensive camera they aren’t making these to not last
FUCK YES!!!! Especially with the strides of non Sony lenses.
