As an engineer myself, this is still giving me goosebumps and eventually brings a little tear to my eye. I feel the dedication of the team at SpaceX. It’s incredible to see something no one has done before. I'm convinced that we will soon see a starship fly.
Just 8 months ago and now we're on to SN5 with 6 and 7 in the bullpen. The complex itself looks so bare in these videos and I expect looking back a year from now what we see there today will look primitive. I haven't been this excited about space since Apollo.

It was one of the COPVs for the thrusters.... they still aren't internal on the current starships but they will be moving them inside probably about the time we see an orbital launch.
Here's a thought. The rocketry engineering so flawless you could viturally use any shape or form as a ship. This making the propulsion system the actual winner here. Meaning if that can fly mist anything can.
I’ve read it was one of the COPVs (carbon-overwrapped pressure vessels, filled with nitrogen) off the top of Hopper that popped loose right as it landed.
Yep, that's the sound of the gas thrusters firing. It's the puff of smoke you see at the top just before the sound reaches the camera. It sounds a bit like a gunshot to me, which makes sense since it's a puff of high velocity gasses exiting the thruster nozzle (and turning off quickly since it's just a test here, which makes it also end sharply like a gunshot).
This video gets weirder and weirder to watch as time goes on, because Starhopper is now being used as a utility building/structure. Looking back on this in mid-2020 is like seeing a giant shed fly through the air.
Wouldn't be surprised lol. The rate that Elon is advancing the tech in this sector, it is starting to get like pc components, it will be "old" in a couple of years.
At 1:40 the scale of Starhopper to the black dude painted on it makes me think Elon said "them water towers in little towns I need one of them built with stubby legs".
I was getting ready to say something to antagonize, but when the dam thing started its ascent and landed safely on the ground I'm like, I stand corrected gents....
Fantastic! I've no idea how many times I've seen this video! But what is that thing that flyes off away, on the right side, just after touching down? It seems to have 2 jets to swirl away...
Im sorry i cant understand your question about SN1, SN1 is the one they just now got onto the launch pad and doesnt have an engine yet, if that happens to answer your question.
@@markoodic5814 so far the only ones built have been Star hopper, mk1, and now sn1. With sn2 coming soon. Either way, what were you asking about the fireball? Was it something in this vid?
@@markoodic5814 Like the other guy I do not understand your question a 100%. But here are all possible answers: Starhopper had a Static Fire as shown in this video that looked like a fireball indeed. Mk1 (the first Prototype of Starship) exploded while Pressure-Testing without an Engine attached and got scrapped. The thing that is built in Boca Chica right now is Serial number 1 (SN1). It got moved to the pad and will (hopefully) have a static fire in the next weeks. But at the moment there is also no engine attached to that :) Hope the right answer is in my Comment :D
