Ryan.. The Safety House Scheme was for child protection. A doorknock was in place by a committee. If you wanted to become a safety house, all individuals of teenage or adult age living in that family had to fill out forms and had to agree to having a Police Check. The only criteria was that someone try to be home around school start or finishing times. Then, if approved, usually 2 weeks later, they had a hard plastic S House emblem glued or drilled onto their letterbox with permission. Thus, a child knew they would be safe to run into that house. If a house was not approved, we were not told why by police, that was personal. Schools made sure kids knew what the sign meant. I am appalled hearing the comment here that drug dealers pinched them... It's totally a low and dangerous act. A child could have been murdered 😡 Obviously, their local committee weren't doing their job ! Every 2 weeks, I would allocate 2 committee members to so many streets to check signs, and every couple of months interview to make sure no one had moved away or others were living on the premises. After all, we didn't want to put endangered children in the hands of paedophiles or drunk/drug situations, etc. I ran our area Safety House program for 20 yrs in Western Sydney. Over that time, I alone saved 4 young primary school children from 4 single attempted abductions. Also, 3 children, around 10 yrs from one family, behaving um sexually in the street and other children watching. I took them back to my house. Sat them down with milk and biscuits and called police and they took the children away. I never questioned them. It wasn't my business. We only ever asked if a child ran into a house for safety, why they had to do it, so as to tell the police for reporting purposes. Police later informed me that they were proud I took the initiative to act. They said the children were brothers and sisters, and they were being abused at home badly, in every sickening way imaginable and plus. You get the picture I'm sure 😪 So Ryan, the Safety House program was bigger and more involved than ppl thought or think. The committee were just everyday neighbourhood housewives or husbands that had been cleared by police but who cared for the safety of all kids, even teenagers. I also made sure the local schools were informed asap if cars were stalking locally or acting suspiciously in the case of kidnapping attempts. Police would forget at times. Then, each class would be told to stay vigilant or they were made aware in the morning assembly. Ryan, I was sad when I moved, but I felt a sense of accomplishment. Parents affected were so thankful, and children trusted us. They even thanked or waved to the committee in the streets. We didn't get paid. It was volunteer work. There were only 6 of us plus the hundreds of wonderful houses involved. Plus, it helped the local police out. Especially if number plates were taken by victims, which were in some cases, and it worked. When I was leaving/ moving, I received a letter out of the blue from the Police command and the local community centre. Secretly, the committee, locals, and police had nominated me for an Australian of the Year Award for exceptional volunteer work. I was approved and awarded a beautiful signed certificate for my work helping and protecting children. I received it at a public ceremony, and this simple everyday mum of four never felt more proud. I made sure I acknowledged all the committee in my acceptance. Plus, the public who interacted.🤗and the police for their immediate actions. after all, it was a group effort. I even cried when I saw the police that I was reporting to for yrs smiling and applauding me standing up in the crowd, and they said afterwards they wouldn't have missed being there "for me"... this time ! 🙆♀️❤ Sadly, trust has diminished nowadays, and most if not all no longer exist. It was a life-saving scheme, and even if it saved just one child...it was worth it 😁 ❤
Our house was a safety house not sure why it stopped. All I heard was there was lack of volunteers which is sad. No one ever used it, we are in a country town. But still I liked that we were here if a child ever needed us.

The irony with that protesting senator is that in order for her to become a senator she had to make an oath of office which includes swearing allegiance to the King. This particular senator alleges she 'fudged' [misspoke] the words and didn't swear allegiance. AND that means, because of that and also that she had to SIGN the oath that, in theory at least, it calls into question the validity of her being a senator at all; or, may have committed perjury when she took the oath.
Mine was a safety house!! This just unlocked that memory, wow. My parents were also part of Neighbourhood Watch. I was quite young, but I do remember some kids coming by and waiting for police but can't remember why, or if I was even told why.
Please remember that our initial population was purely made up of the English the Irish the Scotts and the Welsh. Rofl there is no Beetroot on that burger. The ingredience are listed below it.
With the safety house, they came out around latev80s when we were all being taught about "stranger danger". If you wanted to be a safety house location, you had to fill out a form to apply, an adult in the house at particularities and you were checked out before being given the plaque for your letterbox, then any kid if they found themselves in danger, knew they could go to your house for help and they really wanted those within walking distance to a school, to be part of it, then a street sign could be placed up saying that suburb/area was a safety house zone where most homes were safe. Out house was 1 & we had 2 or 3 kids come to our place. Haven't seen a sign for decades now, not sure what happened to the project, we prob need it more now than ever.
Just because the union claims it doesn't make it so. And if it was true, the authorities would be on to it. From memory, it was more about young, inexperienced, workers getting lower pay than older, experienced workers. Which is normal, but some unions like to justify their existence by stirring up trouble.
@@PJRaymentthis is correct on regarding underpayments. Since they are striking, it means they want more and are just using the term "underpayment" because it will garner public sympathy.
@@SharlzG "... because it will garner public sympathy." And obviously that has worked with some people. "There is now legislation update to include fines and jail time for senior management for underpayments." From memory, that legislation is _too_ strong. I think a company or its senior management can be fined even if the underpayments were a genuine error, were found and reported by the company, and the staff paid what they were owed.
Reportedly, the underpaying comes from workers being signed up to a mandatory training system that gives them a Cert 3 or 4 in Hospitality, or similar (I’m not sure on the specifics). But essentially, it allows Grilled to claim they provide on the job training and the wage reduction covers the cost of this “training”. From what I’ve read, workers aren’t always given the time for training or studying, so it’s all a bit of a sham. In reality, future employers wouldn’t be any more impressed with the certificate than the time of experience working in hospitality anyway.

Safety houses, they were police checked even in the 80's. It was for children walking home from school. They were expected to be home, most of the time in the hour after school ended. As children we were taught these were safe places. A police check, which would exist in the US, does not guarantee anything but there was an attempt to make sure they were safe people. OF course this was long before the first mobile phones existed.

Distillate is a grouping of diesel products and heavy diesel petroleum fuels that are not as refined, are produced lower in the petroleum distillation process, are less expensive to purchase for large consumers of fuel, and are generally used as fuel in large engines for power generation or as propulsion for large cargo ships. The range of distillate products can be quite broad ranging from normal diesel as seen in large road transport vehicles to highly viscous products that might resemble dirty used engine oil to even products that seem to resemble tar rather than a liquid. Many large users of distillate can actually dictate their exact specifications of what the product must meet, as their quanity of purchases is so large and ordered so far in advance of delivery.

You can actually peel them back from the corner. They do a half decent job of resealing to, far from perfect but better than the old school packaging.
I've been doing it wrong.
Do you think we should tell Ryan that we don't say fa-Lay, he probably won't understand anyway?
I didn’t know that! I’m an Aussie lame duck! Hanks for enlightening me!

Ryan, the word is "fillet" not "filet" (two Ls not one). It's pronounced fill-it (as in what you do to your gas tank when you run out - you fill it). You Americans use the French word to mean the same thing. If you went to a restaurant here and asked for a scotch filet, they'd look at you weird 😂
Oh, and the name "Isla" is pronounced "eye-la"... have you really never heard that name before? I remember you not recognising "Felicity" the other day too. The people in Indiana must have such boring names.
Sorry, another one... "Brunswick" is "bruns" (same as "runs" but with a B) and "wick"
Americans say it like the French, just like they say 'erbs' for herbs. It's weird.
It' also like fillet of fish and what you have to do to the fish to get that cut. I don't know where Indiana is (sorry) but they must have fish fillets.
Distillates is the broad term for liquified gases. LPG/Propane and LNG/Methane are the main two used as fuel and other non flammables like Nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and oxygen.
Having a good laugh at Ryan calling a lamb burger "beef".

Grill'd was the first burger in one of the Australian fast food reviews you watched and the reviewer loved it. Although they are fast casual not fast food. I like their burgers and other food but they have a bad history of labour relations as this story shows.
You get the picture I'm sure 😪
So Ryan, the Safety House program was bigger and more involved than ppl thought or think.
Safety houses for kids or teens who feel unsafe or fall of their bikes. Safe mum who will look after you, call the police, whatever.

My house was a Safety House, it was on the main pathway to and from school, opposite a large park, everyone in the house had to have a police check before been issued with a sign to be attached to the letter box, we were given a booklet on possible situations and suggestions on how to handle it and who to call for help, a local police man and woman gave a question and answer talk at the local school.

Never heard of Grilled either. But if they are underpaying their workers I won’t be trying them.
It's was a huge problem a number of years ago and a lot of restaurants in particular were investigated and fined by Fair Work

@@SharlzG
"... because it will garner public sympathy."
And obviously that has worked with some people.
"There is now legislation update to include fines and jail time for senior management for underpayments."
From memory, that legislation is _too_ strong.

We have neighbourhood watch and certain homes or streets are deem safe for kids if need assistance
They approved by government or councils as safe area
Its generally around schools as if kids feel threatened and think being followed they can go to these house's
It come about after a few kids being obducted after school hours on their way home
So the kids knkw house's or homes in those streets are safe to asked for help and home volunteer to be part of it
Mainly predators know when kids released from school and hang around looking for one by themselves
Even thought
Police run patrols around schools at that time they can't be everywhere and normally these kids are one leaving later then the masses for what ever reason

“French” is a term for slicing. “French Fries’ was originally “french-cut fried potatoes”” Another example is “french-cut sautéed green beans” Americans abbreviated the term.
In Qld rib fillet is a bit different to Scotch fillet.
Oh, and that histrionic karen is apparently a senator even though she mocked taking the oath. Like in other countries, the rules don't apply to certain people.

Lidia Thorpe is Aboriginal and is yelling to King Charles: "You are not our king, you committed genocide against our people, give us back our land, our bones, our skulls, our children." The First Nations people have a lot to be angry about with regards to the English invasion back in 1788. In fact they want to change Australia Day to Invasion Day. A lot of cruelties were inflicted upon them by ignorant farmers/settlers/police etc who understood nothing about their culture. Their children were taken from them and the people were enslaved. Not a history we are proud of.
