- Kyan is now 7 months old and simply loves the water! There's nothing more fun than a good old splash with his mother and/or his sister. They both live in Dierenpark Amersfoort in the Netherlands.
So cute! She looks like she laid down to prevent him from being in such deep water so he could play. He was having so much fun. They are beautiful animals.
Can you imagine how it feels for an animal this large to lay down in the water and feeling lighter instantly. They look like I always look while swimming, relaxed and happy.
They won’t feel buoyancy more. Elephants bones and muscles are much bigger to support their weight.

They look like are having some fun. They are so magnificent and the little calf falls right in line with mom. I loved when she was trying to get on her mothers back. That was so cute

you should see the elephants at sanctuary in Thailand that rescues ill treated ones. There are three babies and they adore the water. They have a river even and they dive. They also adore mud.

That would not be the case in the wild; something in her situation was wrong, too many stressors, or something else. It is not in the nature of a mother-elephant to act that way; it is only seen in captivity. Captivity is not their natural state.
@@cacatr4495 I agree it might be a stress factor being in captivity for them to do harm to their young ones...
Bad mothering is aberrant behavior in all species. When it happens, the mother usually has something wrong with her - terrible experiences, mental illness, or just inexperience, etc. I’m including people here, of course.

Kyan, the baby in this video is now a big brother to two babies who were born in his presence 6 months apart. These new babies, a girl and a boy are loved by Kyan. The father, Maurice, is a recent addition to Amersfoort and all the elephants there, including Kyan love him too. Khine War War is the matriarch. She met Maurice and gave permission for him to join the heard. Her daughter, Indra had the first baby and Indra's daughter, Kina had the second baby. A happy little herd they are.
Bev1946 elephants are not able to be happy unless they are free. In that sense they are similar to mankind. Watch kids play in a refugee amp, add some nice music and try to convince me that they are happy. BS.
Ellen Salomonsen beautifully put. It is so sad to see these majestic animals in enclosures, no matter how nice the enclosures are.
You need to view ENP or Jabulani Herd one is in Thailand the other Sth Africa.
Hopefully there are many dozens of acres to wander around and explore here, but the best thing in the clip is that the enclosure is made of natural wood that doesn't look symmetrical, being all higgeldy-piggeldy. The pool is also very nice and fun.
The saddest thing is when elephants are in concrete and steel environments with no space to roam about. It destroys their spirits.
I agree-- they need a bigger pool and hopefully there is much more greenland to roam and feel free... like Kaavan has..

although not free, they are so inseparable and loving the time together in the pool inside the enclosure, Hope they somehow get the chance at freedom but it probably too late. love is so much better then bitterness and hate. They love each other so that's enough for now.
things could be much worse. circuses. or poachers in Africa even if they are free and wild. and farmers in Africa if the ellies go in there fields get killed for that. at least they are not hunted, they are fed bave companionship of their species and if this zoo is sentient enuf to have water for them maybe they are doing other things right to like letting them forage, soft surfaces, dirt piles, foot care and etc. could be worse for sure. logging in asia, begging, trekking camps.

Oh, man, this was so enjoyable to watch the little tyke having a blast in the water with his mom. I don’t normally like background music, particularly in a nature video, but your decision to add this particular symphony (embarrassed to admit it, although I’ve heard it many times, I can’t recall who wrote it. I only know Beethoven’s 5th.) was spot-on.

he seems happy and enrichment...and has his momma....it's not ideal but they are being vanquished in the wild, and this is 100% better than so many horrible enclosures and neglectful zoos where they suffer terribly and die neglected :'(
