@@valianes it's an honor :D keep the good work man! am curious though to hear your thoughts about the rankings. personally, i feel like a lot of the bars in your tokyo tour video are far FAR superior vs the bars on the top 50 list. i've been to over half of the bars on the top 50 list and have personally been very disappointed by a lot of them. sometimes it feels like it's like the oscars where to participate, you have to pay a hefty marketing expense, and it becomes this show that's more about how bars can advertise themselves (instead of how they present their drinks). recently, i went to coa and found the drinks to be horrible. the bartenders weren't really alert, and it was clear that a lot of them were new bartenders who just started their bartending journey. contrast this with ishi no hana in tokyo, bar greenspot in osaka, bar lab in taipei, etc. there just seems like there are so many actually good bars that will never make the list. and im rather disappointed by that. :|
@@universalsorrow its super tough to get a properly accurate ranking based on how voting works. Each voter has to have visited the bar within the last 18 months in order to vote for it, and they only get 8 votes. To get a true top 50 from that is difficult, but given the circumstances I think the list is as good as it possibly could be. There is definitely a game that needs to be played in order to earn votes outside of just being a good bar, which excludes some bars from the list because they don't play the game (guest shifts, travelling to other bars, conventions, etc). But I think playing the game is ultimately a good thing for bars and the people that put the work in deserve to be on the list. The ranking also includes intangible things that most people don't notice, like sustainability, ethical treatment of staff, community outreach, etc etc etc. And, of course, everyone's tastes are different. I don't ever take these rankings as pure gospel but use them as a guide to know where I should start my journey when looking for great bars.
