    Puck doesn't have a girls voice, it has a child's voice. The law says its "The juvenile form of a Faerie Dragon". Which means it's a child.

    4:35 to the chatter there, just because Puck is voiced by a lady, it doesn't mean Puck is a she. Monkey D Luffy is also voiced by a lady if that helps my argument

    • @AmazingMrMe123
      @AmazingMrMe123 6 месяцев назад +9

      Bart Simpson and Bobby Hill are also voiced by ladies.
      That argument is as silly as saying Diane Nguyen from Bojack Horseman is a white character because the voice actor is white.
      Or that Bojack is a human because he isn't voice acted by an actual horse.

      I mean, this is a common practice - children are often voiced by women since their voice have higher pitch (like children) but they still are much easier to work with than actual children (since, you know, they are fully grow adults) and their voice won't change over time. Puck is supposed to be whimsikal and childlike, so chances are, it would be voiced by woman no matter what. That's just a dumb argument

    15:00 and that's why you're one of my favorite channels (along with the great content and interesting discussions/rants). I think you make your points eloquently and simple enough for people who don't really now that much about it to understand, and curating your viewer base by refusing to engage bigots makes for great spaces (as they say, if you let a fasc*st stay in a bar, eventually, that'll be a fasc*st bar).
    Anyway, great video and thanks for being a wonderful ally

    Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.
    -Karl Popper
    Felt this was appropriate to put here based on Baumi's early discussion.

      @@gunjchowwiwat8357 honestly it's probably more accurate to interpret the use of "it" as puck using _any_ pronoun, and the "narration" of dota's lore and tooltip just defaults to it because it's very much a creature far removed from any sense of humanity
      it's just kinda hard to imagine puck actually giving a real answer to the question, because it's just not a concept that meaningfully exists in the lil' bastard's brain. hell, i could easily see a gag where two different parties that encounter puck slap it with he/him and she/her, respectively, and it just goes unquestioned by anyone up until the two parties meet and get confused at why the other thinks puck is a girl / boy
      puck, naturally, would not be the slightest help in resolving it, and would probably even confuse the matter further just for shits and giggles

    • @JamesMichaelDoyle
      @JamesMichaelDoyle 6 месяцев назад

      puck is a boy. all the in game text refers to "he" "him" "his" etc. the lore is that hes a really young fae dragon. probably why they chose to go with the high pitched voice, to highlight his youth.
      unless they recently decided to retcon it all to virtue signal.

    • @hi-i-am-atan
      @hi-i-am-atan 6 месяцев назад

      @@JamesMichaelDoyle the earliest iteration of puck's hero page on dota 2's website that's available on the wayback machine uses "it" in both the lore blurb, the abilities' tooltips, and the abilities' lore
      this iteration is dated july 4th. of 2012
      if this is "recently" to you, i have bad news about how many years of dota you've missed

    • @hi-i-am-atan
      @hi-i-am-atan 6 месяцев назад

      @@JamesMichaelDoyle "recently" being ... 2012 at the latest?
      because like. dota 2 _has_ a website. you _can_ just go there and read the hero lore blurbs and the ability tooltips and little lore fragments at the bottom of 'em. and it's been around for like 13 years now, and that means it's been _archived_ for 13 years now, and that means you can go to the earliest version of puck's hero page from back in 2012 and look at its initial lore and see that it's exactly the same at the lore it has today, except for the fact that nowadays the former concluding sentence has been cojoined with the former penultimate one
      which, if you'll notice, is not "except for the fact that they use different pronouns for puck." and if you'll also notice, the current lore uses it for puck. and i think you can figure what you get when you combine the original lore using the same pronouns as the current one with the current lore calling puck it
      so if this _was_ a recent change for you ( with the "change," from what i can tell, being that dota 2 heroes are not the same characters as their dota 1 counterparts ), i have bad news about the amount of dota you've missed this past decade

    Really enjoyed you're hierarchy theory. Does make a lot of sense.
    I always just thought of the split as being between people trying to be cooperative vs people trying to be competitive at their core. Always thought of it as people not being able to trust at all, as being the core problem. Like being too cynical to believe someone might want to do something nice just out of empathy.

  • @Hinotori_joj
    @Hinotori_joj 6 месяцев назад

    i think its unfortunate that these kinds of things are so taboo and disruptive to talk about, because you have a really good opinion and i had never thought about the hierarchy thing. its a shame that so many people have cool thoughts like this but will probably never talk about them.
    I was raised in a conservative family, so i also understand how they think. In my experience, almost all of it was on religious grounds. What this book says, what this religious figure said, etc. I don't really know about the hierarchy thing, to me it felt much more like a web of "once you believe this, we will get you to believe this, and then this, and this" and so on. Its not that conservatives were unwilling to change their ideas, its was much much more about who said that idea and what they built it off of. All that said, I think you are right about the hierarchy thing for this main reason: almost all the time, theres this feeling within conservative beliefs that "we're the victim, everyone else is against us and trying to hurt us."

  • @mayflower665

    Hey, I'm trans and I think your mindset is the right one for a cisgendered/straight person to have. Although you should care if you have lgqbtq+ friends or similar and they open up to you about their issues, but that is something that just comes with being a good friend and person. basically all of my friends where like: "oh ok, cool" when I came out to them, but when ever I talk to them about gender dysphoria or so, I never get the feeling that they don't care.
    also, my favourite magic cards are frantic search and kingpin's pet

    • @hi-i-am-atan
      @hi-i-am-atan 6 месяцев назад +3

      this is something that baumi's brought up before and it's just sorta a consequence of english often squashing things into a positive-negative binary. like, y'know how if you say you "don't like" something, it sounds like you're saying you feel _negatively_ about it, even though the literal read is that you just don't feel positive towards the thing? the whole ambivalent zone is just sorta squashed into nonexistence, making it kinda hard to express neutrality towards anything
      that's what he means by "not caring, but in the most loving sense": he _does_ care, just ... very mildly, to the point where it's really more of a positive apathy. he has nothing to say or add to someone being queer, he just supports it and that's just the end of that. he is ready to move onto something he can actually talk and form a meaningful opinion about, like card games. that's the type of "don't care" he means

    • @mayflower665
      @mayflower665 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@hi-i-am-atan yeah, I get that. That's exactly what I'm saying. I might have phrased it poorly, because I suck with words. I was just adding that you should care if a trans person you know opens up to you about certain things, just like how you would care if a cis friend opens up about their non-trans issues. maybe I should differentiate between caring and not letting it bother you. What Baumi described is not letting someones gender bother you, because why should it.

    the usual answer is Conservatives want to perpetuate and abuse a hirarchy and system they put in place to benefit only themselves and use differences between people to drive hatred to keep their positions. Conservatives usually have zero moral ground to stand on, at least here in the U.S where their only goal is to perpetuate suffering because they "worked hard for what they got" and for some reason people shouldn't be treated as people if they look different.
    This scares us specifically because *we* are a plural system and society would simply deem us derranged and get us on medication, also in terms of favorite magic card it is Dr. Maddison Li from the fallout set, absolutely LOVE energy being useable.
