If you watch the 1965 interview with the real Oppenheimer, you will notice the nuances Cillian was able to duplicate, such as the small lip-smacking habit or the buldging eyes expressions Oppenheimer had when he spoke.

Oppenheimer is a work of art, not a documentary, not a movie even. I saw it today, and I felt drained emotionally, a little lost and emotional, stunned at the artistry. I saw the Mona Lisa in the Louvre in 1999 and I felt similarly, it wasn’t the biggest piece work, but it was strangely deep. It’s the kind of movie that you want to discuss at a dinner party with 10 friends who all felt differently by watching it. Hard to describe.

Terrific interview. Cillian in Oppenheimer is going to be considered his iconic role, like Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. He's always been brilliant, but this role will define him for the rest of his career. The film is astoundingly good, although I think the exposition of the political chicanery could have been condensed a bit. But it’s clear why Nolan insisted on including all of it. I’ve been thinking about this film since I left the theatre 3 days ago.

I second that request about Joaquin since they seem to have the same approach to acting, i.e., both never attended acting school/class and are instinctual actors who hate to rehearse and act in the moment. A collaboration would be phenomenal.

So every time I listen to interviews with Cilliam, I can't help but feel that he is a complete actor, full of passion, brilliant, especially in his last installment, the way he introduced us to the character of the great physicist is bordering on something incredibly perfect and here it is clearly visible that cinema is the most beautiful of arts, it can take us to areas previously unknown, deserted yesterday, today tamed and populated enough to be able to say Oppenheimer is Oscar.

I've always loved Cillian. First movie of his I watched was Sunshine. Didn't know his name, but was immediately drawn in. Watched everything since. Hope he gets all the plaudits he deserves with how much Oppenheimer is blowing up.

After having seen the movie last night… it’s insane how accurate it is and how much Cillian actually looks like Robert and how accurate the Los Alamos and bomb building scenes were!

Oppenheimer was fantastic and I fully expect multiple Oscar noms for it. I'm betting Cillian and RDJ get noms for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively.
I imagine there'll be additional Oscar noms for writing, directing, et al. How many wins will depend on the competition, of course.

It's truly remarkable to hear Cillian Murphy discuss his role in Oppenheimer, especially considering his long-standing working relationship with Christopher Nolan. Five collaborations in, and yet, this is the first time he steps into the spotlight as Nolan's leading man. The episode radiates a sense of enthusiasm and depth that only comes from an actor-director pairing with shared history, trust, and artistic synergy.
Murphy has always brought a certain magnetism to his roles, whether it's the Scarecrow in Nolan's Batman trilogy or his standout performances in films like Inception and Dunkirk. But Oppenheimer feels like a whole new level of synergy between him and Nolan. You can sense that Murphy has fully grasped the gravitas of his role, diving deep into the complexities of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. It's a character fraught with moral, ethical, and emotional dilemmas, and who better to tackle this than an actor of Murphy's caliber under Nolan's visionary direction?
Josh Horowitz does an excellent job in the #happysadconfused podcast to explore not just the film but the nuances of Murphy’s performance. The conversation gives listeners a chance to appreciate how Murphy approached this incredibly challenging role and how Nolan's direction shaped it. It's also intriguing to hear Murphy's reflections on his evolution from a supporting player in Nolan's cinematic universe to a leading man in one of the director's most ambitious projects to date.
It's rare to get such an insightful peek into the dynamics of an actor-director relationship that has been nurtured over multiple collaborations. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the intricacies of filmmaking, acting, and the extraordinary outcomes that can arise from long-term creative partnerships. #Oppenheimer is not just a movie; it's an event, and Cillian Murphy's role in it appears to be a defining moment in a career already filled with noteworthy performances.

Going from an article published here in Australia its weem a sad thing about this movie, and I do love Cillian, that Nolans' movie ignores the crucial role that an Australian scientist and his two Jewish staff in England played.
It was the two German scientists who'd each left Germany with the rise of Hitler in the early 1930's whose work led to the bombs. And this was done in Britain where they published their findings when working in the University of Birmingham. And it was their boss, an Australia physicist running the lab who would ulitmately go to America to push their findings.
Truth is that that it Albert Einstein's entreaties to Roosevelt in Aug 39 only resulted in the setting up of the Uranium Committee did not result in the Manhattan project - these guys treaded water instead and focused on nuclear power for submarines because they believed, like all scientistsa the time, that so much fissile uranium would be needed for an A bomb (the critical mass) it would be too heavy to be deployed
It took two German Jewish physicists to change that view, namely Otto Frisch from Hamburg and Rudolf Peierls from Berlin who'd both independantly left Germany after the ascension of Adolf Hitler in the early 1930's.
Otto Frisch had learnt from his physicist aunty Lise Meitner in 1938 (also living abroad) that two German Jewish scientists (Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman) had burst Uranium with a neutron to produce Barium (Atomic no. 56). Otto and Lise hypothosized that the Uranium nucleus had been split and estimated the energy released. Frisch coined the term fission after the biological term for splitting cells in two.
Later Frisch with Peierls, then both working under in a lab in the University Birmingham, produced a memorandum that set out a process for generating an atomic explosion. Instead of recquiring tonnes or Uranium for a critical mass, it was only a matter of a few kilograms.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisch%E2%80%93Peierls_memorandum
It was the laboratories boss, the Australian born physicist Mark Oliphant who then spearheaded their findings with the British Government who set up the MAUD committee.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAUD_Committee
The committee shared this information with the American authorities including Roosevelt's Uranium Committee. By March 1941 the MAUD Committee concluded that the bomb was "practical and likely to lead to decisive results in the war". Still they got no response. Turns out that the American's the Uranium Committee's Chairman had simply put the information in his safe without reading it.
Due to the lack of American interest the British Government sent the Australian Mark Oliphant in August 1941 to America to find out why. Officialdom complacency left him desperate so he went beyond his brief and despite top-secret concerns flew to Berkeley to reach out to a pre-war friend, namlely Ernest Lawrence, one of America's most influential scientists and recent Noble Laureate in physics. Lawrence was startled by the MAUD committee's findings and disturbed by the America's inaction. And this is when Oppenheimer comes in - when he was invited by Lawrence to come to his Berkeley office and meet the Australian Mark Oliphant. That crucial encounter is missing in Nolan's movie.
How much stronger would the movie have been if the role of the two Jewish scientists who'd had the sense to flee Nazi Germany in the early 30's and the Australian Mark Oliphant who took the Americans to task for not following up the recommendations of the British MAUD Committee
