The most interesting thing about this challenges is that it shows how "wrong" I always played this game... You can win fights with one pokemon which I lost with 6.
Heroann I think being an adult with full reasoning power helps. I’ve noticed how much easier the games are in general just knowing what I can get away with and using math.
@@mrussell1018 Of course being an adult makes it easier... But im still pretty lazy using math XD. I still only take pokemon in my team which I think look good... I just cant see a pokemon which I dont like... but I understood the use of items and know how to use types... that is enough to let my run through this games.
That's bad. In my first time playing the games I usually played with only one pokemon, and it's still easy besides type disadvantages. After that I started adding Mareeps to the recipe in generation 2 so I was playing with two pokemon.

@@Heroann I mean, in my case it's just that at the time it was too much for me to think about distributing the experience between all my pokemon so I just had an overleveled pokemon doing all the job. In later playthroughs I started to bring some Pokemon I liked, but it still was an overleveled one (the starter), an underleveled one (Ampharos) and some Pokemon I never leveled (red Gyarados, a legendary and things lvl 20 or something). It was a lot of time later that I started to make real teams.
I might be very wrong here, but my guess is that it is a wordplay. "Strong as Peck", like "strong as heck", but not... may be wrong, but it's the best I could come up with :(
I love you. The Drowzee work around is hilarious. I also respect your decision to count this as a failed run since the original requirements were technically impossible to meet.
Prediction: lots of grinding and abuse of the sloppy programming GEN 1 is infamous for Eevee has a barely higher base stat total than Pikachu, which is a big problem. The best attacking move it learns through level-up is Bite, which, along with Swift when he get’s the TM, is gonna be the main attacking move throughout the run. EDIT: eh, close enough for a first time prediction
you forget he cant deal with ghosts types well because bite is normal in gen 1 the only way for Evee to get rid of ghosts is by using toxic Edit: or mimic
So many people were saying you can't use toxic because they were ghost type, but that doesn't matter anyway, YOU CAN'T GET TOXIC UNTIL YOU BEAT KOGA, AND YOU CAN'T GET TO HIM WITHOUT THE POKE FLUTE
The Fisherman Challenge Game: Any gen that has the most fishing rods Team: Nuzlocke style you can only catch the first pokemon you fish with each rod If you want to make it harder you can't evolve any of the mons you catch
Omg thank you so much I've been eating for this video for along time (the problem is only normal type attacking moves also what fossil did you choose again
Can you beat pokemon diamond or pearl (no platinum) using only type disavantages (or neutral at the very least) and no super effective moves (Attempt 10)
Couldn’t you have just used Bide for the Pokemon tower? Eevee can learn it (i think), you’d probably have it by then and it hits ghosts during this gen.
yea he realized that after this run was over. Since it was normal, it makes sense why he wouldn't remember because gen 1 has a lot of weird weird quirks

Eevee is hands down my favorite pokemon! Loved this run so much! Keep up the great conent MDB! Also found you from your Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced walkthrough.
it would fail gen 3 has a mandatory ghost trainer (elite 4) and beldum can only learn take down. eevee in gen 1 could have dealt with ghosts with bide (as MDB found out after the run) but beldum cannot do that
Boy Slam. Type: normal Category: physical. The user throws its trainer at the target to attack. This move only works if the trainer is male. It may paralize the target.
Update: Top Regional Pokemon Researcheres, such as Prof. Oak, Birch or Juniper have shown to have serious difficulties while attempting to use Boy Slam. The accuracy of the move is reduced to 50% in these cases.
This was an interesting one to watch, seeing you find a run that is actually impossible. It's still a win in my book regardless! Once again I hope for a Route 1 challenge, using only Pokemon available on the first route that has Pokemon. An added challenge would be to not evolve them, but that's up to you on whether you can or not. Gen 4 or 5 would be nice, since they have a decent selection of Route 1 mons and cause they're my favourite gens. Keep up the good work!
So, I was going to say that instead of struggling the ghost types, you could have them struggle against you. Then I realized that Gen 1 doesnt give other Pokemon PP. They have infinite.
Fun Fact. BIDE is netural on ghost and rock types in Gen one. You might actual might of had a chance if the gastly and haunter used Night Shade because Night Shade worked on ghost and normal pokemon in gen 1 as well.
Prewatch prediction: This is going to be the first challenge you've failed because the ghosts are both immune to your normal attacks AND toxic, since they're all poison type!
this comment is being made before I watch the rest of the video, and before i scroll down and read the comments. but i think the "problem" you mentioned is that Eevee in this gen, doesn't learn any offensive moves that aren't Normal typing, and that toxic doesn't effect the Ghost of gen1, and how Struggle is considered normal in this gen. and i think the "solution" is the move Mimic? since it lets you mimic any 1 of their moves, so you mimic lick or night shade, letting you breeze through them? ok time to watch and find out.
Can toxic affect poison types in gen 1? Because if not he doesn’t have a chance in hell since eevee only learns damaging normal-type moves through level up and tms. If they are affected he may have a chance. And like always here are my challenges for him: Here’s the main line game challenge: Pokemon Emerald using only Magcargo. It’s 4x weak to water and ground in a region with a water type champion, 8th gym leader who uses water types and two evil team leaders who’s strongest Pokemon are part water and ground. Good luck if you attempt it. And here’s some for mystery dungeon since DX just came out: Blue/red rescue team using only a machop (machop only learns fighting moves by level up and a good chunk of the main story bosses resist fighting. As for the partner, just set them to “get away from here”) Any mystery dungeon game without using any moves (just use the A attack or items.) Any mystery dungeon game without any items (No Oran berries, no Tms, no reviver seeds, no food, nothing. Super mystery dungeon would probably be the hardest since it emphasises using items more, especially for bosses like Yveltal)

This video taught me that I've never seen the Gen 1 Eevee back sprite before, because why the heck would anyone have sent out an unevolved Eevee back then?
Comments are good for the RUclips algorithm, so like this and I’ll make more
Ok
Does commenting on comments help the RUclips algorithm?
No
Teagan Moore yes it does
I disagree
"this games held together by string"
STRINGS STRONGER THAN THIS-
held by strings of hair
i always forget about the “Comments are good for the RUclips algorithm” joke until you actually get to the fossils
you should not do the joke for one video just to trip us up
And so people comment. Comments are good for the youtube algorithm.
Moosey Goosey i really walked right into that one didn’t i
His Shedninja video has you covered XD
luke talbot oh right! well, that was an entirely new gen where the fossils weren’t mandatory, what i’d love to see him do is say “on the way i got the helix fossil” and leave it at that
@@Hutch2Much he randomly threw it into one of his non-kanto videos one day and i didnt even think about it until i was already on another video
You should try beating diamond or pearl with a shroomish (just cause they’re cool), or maybe Gen 3.
honestly script typos are a good part of why i love this channel so much
The most interesting thing about this challenges is that it shows how "wrong" I always played this game...
@@TheLeviathan1293 The first time I played Pokemon was with 4... and with 6 I got my own game...
I didn't bought any of the new games or watched lets plays...
I dont want to look for any tactics or want to spoiler my self which pokemon will come or look for the best stats... I just want to play the game and the easiest way is with six pokemons...
If you want to play with one or two thats fine... I just dont want to get in all this planning and tactics... thats to much for playing a game like this casualy.
14:10 "Wing Attack was as strong as Peck in Gen 1"
...I don't get it. Could someone please explain?
Back in gen 1, both Peck and Wing Attack had the same base power of 35. Wing Attack got a buff in gen 2 to make it base 60 whilst Peck stayed 35.
I don't get the joke either....
I don't really get the joke either, honestly speaking^^ I think we're missing some really obscure punchline here.
:( I am also lost and confused
I might be very wrong here, but my guess is that it is a wordplay.
"Strong as Peck", like "strong as heck", but not... may be wrong, but it's the best I could come up with :(
it would probably be comically easy for you but, id like to see a run where whenever a pokemon learns a new move you have to take it, NO TMS
I love you. The Drowzee work around is hilarious. I also respect your decision to count this as a failed run since the original requirements were technically impossible to meet.
Prediction: lots of grinding and abuse of the sloppy programming GEN 1 is infamous for
Eevee has a barely higher base stat total than Pikachu, which is a big problem. The best attacking move it learns through level-up is Bite, which, along with Swift when he get’s the TM, is gonna be the main attacking move throughout the run.
EDIT: eh, close enough for a first time prediction
you forget he cant deal with ghosts types well because bite is normal in gen 1 the only way for Evee to get rid of ghosts is by using toxic
Edit: or mimic
all ghosts are toxic in gen 1Not toxic beceause
@@leopoldkucinski9684 I had an aneurysm reading that
@@blackdot105 same
@@blackdot105 The blood flowing out of my nose after reading that agrees. Now if you'll excuse me.
I'm going to go check in the ER.
So many people were saying you can't use toxic because they were ghost type, but that doesn't matter anyway, YOU CAN'T GET TOXIC UNTIL YOU BEAT KOGA, AND YOU CAN'T GET TO HIM WITHOUT THE POKE FLUTE
Official prediction: LOTS OF GRINDING
The Fisherman Challenge
Game: Any gen that has the most fishing rods
Team: Nuzlocke style you can only catch the first pokemon you fish with each rod
If you want to make it harder you can't evolve any of the mons you catch
Omg thank you so much I've been eating for this video for along time (the problem is only normal type attacking moves also what fossil did you choose again
The omanyte challenge made me want to see more fossil challenges. Maybe Platinum with only Shieldon and Cranidos?
Shieldon because cranidos would be too easiy
Can you beat pokemon diamond or pearl (no platinum) using only type disavantages (or neutral at the very least) and no super effective moves (Attempt 10)
So alot of normal type moves
Robin van Rossum Why not Platinum?
never thought i'd hear about type coverage so that you have a wide range of moves that *dont work*
"[Voltorb] hardly hurt us and one Body Slam took us out."
huh
Couldn’t you have just used Bide for the Pokemon tower? Eevee can learn it (i think), you’d probably have it by then and it hits ghosts during this gen.
MasterOf Chaos72 good point.
No, cause Gastly has just ghost moves, and he can't hit eevee
Night shade can hit normal types in gen 1
Plus, Bide is a normal type move. It wouldn't hit ghost types
slendermenan Night Shade hits Normal Types and Psychic Types in Gen 1. It is only from Gen 2 onwards that it doesn't hit them due to immunity.
I was thinking you could use Bide to counter the Gastly's Night Shade, as long as you have enough HP to endure the run
yea he realized that after this run was over. Since it was normal, it makes sense why he wouldn't remember because gen 1 has a lot of weird weird quirks
MixTapes CsGo agreed. Gen 1 was weird.
Boy slam is when your Pokemon picks you, the trainer, up and throws you at the opposing Pokemon.
19:00 those animations giving me the nostalgia flashbacks.. 10pm under the blanket with tht weird ass magnifying light gadget that use to go over a gameboy to see in the dark XD man.. most people wont even know that was like..
Hell yeah! Ptsd flashbacks trying to play on long car rides when its dark before I had the light thingy
I still have that gadget! Just looked it up now.
Playing gameboy outside trying to hold it in the perfect sweet spot so that I can see the screen.
Good old days
Opening the curtains to get the street light to shine on my gameboy so i could play
You keep saying bruh... it’s clear that this game is 3 times your age
Love how the description still says Omanyte, ohhhh and also do a Spheal in gen 3 (only using ice ball if you want an added challenge)
I love how I can hear MDB smiling when he makes the fossil joke😂
Me : Oh no , I've got exams tomorrow , I haven't studied yet
RUclips : MDB has uploaded a new video - Can you beat gen 1 with only an eevee
Guess I'm pullin' an all-nighter.
You have an exam on a Sunday?
Do both
No , I don't have exams, I just wanted to make a meme
I knew the ghost types are brick wall and thought that toxic was the move you were talking about
Take the Dome fossil once in a while.
When you asked if we could figure out the problem I literally said “ghost ghost!”😅
Jason Dillon I said that as well but Bide works on Ghosts and Night Shade works on Normal Types so it is actually possible.
I was thinking of ghost and steel then realized it was gen1
T O X I C
Sophieplays Gastly, Haunter and Gengar are part Poison Type so Toxic won't work since you can't poison a Poison Type.
@@dolphinz6955 you get toxic for winning against koga, where i think you cannot get before winning against the ghosts. Also you can't poison gastly/haunter/Gengar. Toxic is not an option
4:14 Regarding instant text there, it actually ends after you open the start menu, or interact with a yes/no textbox and turning the game off (obviously). This trick is also allowed in pokemon glitchless speedruns. I don't know why, but I'd say it's a borderline glitch
Evolve it when you’re done
And it evolves into youngster Joey.
gonna be tough since there's no last resort in Gen 1
Heads up - when you scroll over this video, the preview is of you naming Run Saver... bit of a spoiler! XD
You could've used Bide! That's the way I did it in my video.
Took me ages to figure out tho :D
I love how you hold back a laugh when you do the fossil joke
Wait, what was the other “failed” run? :0 I don’t think I’ve seen that video
Forevertowander Wobbuffet
Magikarp as well, for the same reason
Wait nvm that was Jrose11
Although he probably can’t win that with current rules, though
Another idea: only smeargle.
IT would very interesting challange
Ooh, you haven't heard of Pikasprey, have you? He's done crystal and firered iirc with 6 smeargle each time, as full playthroughs too, rather than a summary vid like this
I know pikasprey but wow i don't know about this challange
I was thinking the same thing but the question is which game to put it in?
I’ve suggested this a million times on Pokémon emerald and name it Gollum lol
Eevee is hands down my favorite pokemon! Loved this run so much! Keep up the great conent MDB!
Also found you from your Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced walkthrough.
0:37 ironically enough not a lot of type coverage
Glad you admitted that you failed this run. I’m glad that you decided to keep going too. Also, comments are good for the RUclips algorithm.
Chris Studey but it can be completed without failing. Bide can hit Ghost Types and Night Shade hits Normal Types.
Description: I'll be using a single omanyte in battle...

I noticed that, too.
He talked about Tangela in a post, the description said Omanyte and the footage is Eevee...

Pokemon emerald/ruby/sapphire with only beldum

Boy Slam.

The accuracy of the move is reduced to 50% in these cases.
boY SLAM. Please NEVER edit your spelling mistakes, it's PURE GOLD
Insane Darkness | Gaming I didn’t know that. That sucks.
What about the toxic or foresight (if eevee could learn that)
@@bruce4139 Eevee can learn toxic

You should really let us know in advance which fossil you picked. Otherwise, what's the point?
One of these days he's gonna take the dome fossil to throw us all off
Um he's already done that
Fun Fact. BIDE is netural on ghost and rock types in Gen one. You might actual might of had a chance if the gastly and haunter used Night Shade because Night Shade worked on ghost and normal pokemon in gen 1 as well.
I still count it as a win you couldn't of known about bide. I love to see mimic only run in gen 4. I feel it would be really interesting.
Prewatch prediction: This is going to be the first challenge you've failed because the ghosts are both immune to your normal attacks AND toxic, since they're all poison type!
Dylan K it’s gen 1
He's failed a rum before
Bide works ;)
Bide works on Ghost Types and Night Shade works on Normal Types so it is possible.
@@robertfaer4522 which one was it? I don't remember
this comment is being made before I watch the rest of the video, and before i scroll down and read the comments.
but i think the "problem" you mentioned is that Eevee in this gen, doesn't learn any offensive moves that aren't Normal typing, and that toxic doesn't effect the Ghost of gen1, and how Struggle is considered normal in this gen.
and i think the "solution" is the move Mimic? since it lets you mimic any 1 of their moves, so you mimic lick or night shade, letting you breeze through them?
ok time to watch and find out.
well i called it, but also forgot about the rocket grunt.. dang..
Eevee’s sprite in this game looks more like his shiny form that wasn’t even made yet lol
What fossil did you get?
also idea: wingull only in r/s/e

13:07 I thought Electrode was the fastest Pokemon in Gen 1
Electrode, Jolteon, Aerodactyl and Mewtwo are all quicker and Alakazam is the same speed as Dugtrio... He must have had a brain fart.
TheMannSays his brain is fart
Can toxic affect poison types in gen 1? Because if not he doesn’t have a chance in hell since eevee only learns damaging normal-type moves through level up and tms. If they are affected he may have a chance.
And like always here are my challenges for him:
Here’s the main line game challenge:
Pokemon Emerald using only Magcargo. It’s 4x weak to water and ground in a region with a water type champion, 8th gym leader who uses water types and two evil team leaders who’s strongest Pokemon are part water and ground. Good luck if you attempt it.
And here’s some for mystery dungeon since DX just came out:
Blue/red rescue team using only a machop (machop only learns fighting moves by level up and a good chunk of the main story bosses resist fighting. As for the partner, just set them to “get away from here”)
Any mystery dungeon game without using any moves (just use the A attack or items.)
Any mystery dungeon game without any items (No Oran berries, no Tms, no reviver seeds, no food, nothing. Super mystery dungeon would probably be the hardest since it emphasises using items more, especially for bosses like Yveltal)
You mean VAVALTAL
It can but you don't get it until koga unfortunately.
Toxic doesn't affect other poison types since gen 1 so no
