How is that you can spend most of your life hating opera and then find a piece that blows you away and almost makes you cry? This is such an incredibly powerful piece and I'll never forget it.
Wagner makes this possible. I once took a friend with me to Bayreuth who hated opera and classical music. (He had lost a bet lol) He went very very silent and hardly talked in the intermission. At the end of Walküre, he actually cried
I do not get the costumes and the machinery, but thought the visualization of Walhall the best I have ever seen, Obviously, it is a mental construct inside the head of Wotan. The gods walk blithely into the delusion and are caught as if in a spider's web.
Great Wotan. Tempo is indeed questionable. Following "nie" the orchestra choked and the brass remained about 1/16 out of synch. Wish Kna were alive. Thanks for the video, you did us (Wagnerians) a big favor!
This is an emotional part, but Mehta lacks every aspect of it. Instead of just letting the music flow, he interrupts and treats the orchestra as if it was unable to just feel what's there. And the tempo - unfortunately it's a trend among conductors nowadays to celebrate themselves instead of the music. And Mehta has become an expert in that. Compare to Karajans later period :-)

The first time i saw and heard this scene I started to weep. This is the scene I fell in love with Wagner.

WUNDERSCHÖNE.
Ich danke ihnen dafür.
Very good voice! Usitaloo!👍😍
Speechless... All the thrill and emotion are lost when the ring cycle is sped up like the trashy met performances.
Uusitalo is one of yhe great Wotans of all times.
4:55 one of the most epic opera moments ever

3:45 If you've ever wondered what fire in a crowded theater looks like.
me too. Zubin ist one of the best (saw him often in Munich, first time in Vienna)

2:08 Schicksalsmotiv (Schicksalskundemotiv),
2:36 -> 2:46 Wotan: Loge, Hoer! Lausche hieher!
( 3:00 ) 3:36 1.Loge-Motiv, 3:44 2.Loge-Motiv;
4:18 -> 4:25 Schlummer-Motiv -> 4:41 Schlaf-Motiv,
( 4:50 ) -> 4:53 Wotan: Wer meines Speeres Spitze ;
7:03 Schicksalsmotiv (Schicksalskundemotiv)
Very nice, but he looks like he's on a toothpick in the middle of a birthday cake.
Lol 😂
Tempos are a bit sluggish and the magic fire looks like a birthday cake.
This is the part that is described by Dr. Schultz to Django

Kind of a cheesy production.
You probably like western or such bs
great piece but way too slow in my opinion. all the thrill and tension gone...
If anything it is much more powerful like this. This version has more gravitas than any other.
