  • It’s officially swarm season here in Kentucky and the bees are exploding in numbers! In this video I capture my first swarm in the bee yard.

The March never gets old. Good luck with them.

Have a question. Could you have shaken the swarm into a bucket, and then dump them onto your hive?

Yes. There are many options. The way these bees were fixed to the shrub would have made getting a bucket (or nuc/deep/etc.) under them difficult. This wasn’t an easy swarm to remove just because of all the limbs they were attached to.

    Who started calling bees "girls"?

Hahaha. Not sure but I’ve heard other beeks do it. Since they’re mostly females I just kind of got in a habit of it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@beesintheweeds could be that the workers are all the females and the increase and supply for the colony comes from their labor. They kicked the drones(males) out during the winter, they do no work other than bred the virgin queens. and that kills them, just like when the females sting someone they die.

Yes. I was in a bit of a rush as swarms have been flying off quickly this year. Sorry if the quality wasn’t great. Have a great weekend!
