    Did a soffit removal 2 weeks ago. It was clean removal so I was surprised when they call the next evening and said we left a lot of Bees. I had told them to call if there were strays. When I got there it was a new swarm (maybe 5 lbs).

Now because you are a recent viewer and subscriber, you may be unaware that there is another member of our team who join us when ever he can and his name is Wreck it Ralph. Believe it or not, Ralph began wrangling bees with me back in 2016 and Charlie began in 2019, and when we do get together, we call ourselves the Three Amigos. The first link below is one of the first adventures Ralph and I did together, and where he got his name from, and the second link is just one of the many we have done together. And if you think Charlie and I have fun together, wait till you see when Ralph joins us. We’ve done it both ways. Framing comb can be messy and time consuming. For us it depends on each particular removal if we frame comb on location or not. I’m not sure if Mr. Ed treats his bees for mites or not, so not framing the comb may also give the bees a short brood break that would be beneficial, especially if he treats with OAV after he rehives them. There’s pluses and minus to each way. As with all things beekeeping, there’s a million ways to accomplish the same goal, which in the end is a healthy colony!

    So when you left those swarm boxes you were expecting to get new swarms, correct? Bringing their queens with them? And the queen you captured went with the vacuumed bees with you, not left behind? Still learning!

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  Год назад

      Correct, each swarm has their own queen, and the queen that was caged went to the hive that she came from, not to a different one. Keep learning and thanks so much for watching. Delighted to hear you are now a beekeeper, I always say the world needs as many beekeepers as it can get. I take great care locating the queen when doing a removal and probably find her 85% of the time, but if she is vacuumed it is not a big deal as she is almost never harmed getting sucked up. In all the years I have been doing removals with a vac, only once did I find a dead queen in the bee vac.
