    That's interesting that your symptom of fatigue started in the Sawtooths because Dixie Homemade Wanderlust was recently in the Sawtooths and had bad fatigue and elevated heart rate. Could there be a certain bacteria in the water there or insect bite that got you both? I live in ID so those details stood out to me.
    Still an epic trip! Gorgeous scenery.

    Cool trip even though the 10K threshold was getting you. Kristy has the same symptoms when she get up above 10K. Not really altitude sickness but on the verge of it. Still looks like you managed to see some awesome scenery and catch plenty of fish. So awesome. Glad Will's phone was found. That would have been horrible especially if he was using to capture the trip on his phone camera. Fun to watch the adventure. Have a great day.

    New Items:
    Squak Mountain Co Gridded Hoodie
    backpack
    chair
    tent
    I love my Squak Mountain Hoodie, very comfortable
    PS: For high HR, sit rest hydrate take more breaks, and at the beginning of a long break go take a #2, will cause your body to vagal down and slow your HR.

    Sorry you weren't feeling great Devin. It happens though. I had a similar experience at the weekend in the Peak District in UK and am still trying to recover.
    Many congrats on going full time btw. I really enjoy your content. I also can't wait to get my new Waymark Embr and do a review on it. Keep up the great work mate.

    I had to quit my September 6 Mount Langley hike a little above Army Pass, at the start of the cairn route to the summit, which starts at about 12500 feet elevation. I’ve done Langley before. The slog to the summit is slow work, and I was feeling the altitude earlier than usual… probably due to the low pressure in general-disturbed atmosphere and thunderstorms in the area the whole day.
    I turn 50 this month. I’ll hope for better luck next year. I may have another 10-12 years of this kind of hiking available to me, and next year should be possible in better weather. Usually I get hammered by altitude at 13200 or so. By that point, I’d just push through it to the summit. Or get a script for Diamox. 😉

      Wow Devin, quite the adventure! Sorry, you’ve been having trouble on your last couple hikes. Did you happen to get the “you know what”? Hopefully not. Either way, may be worth talking to a doc about it The fatigue. Just out of interest, what did your heart rate get up to you when climbing the pass? you have some cool gear there, that backpack has a really interesting feature. It’s too bad it doesn’t fit real well for you. maybe some more fiddling will help out? I was just watching a recent video from Dixie, she ended up having to use the SOS function of her Garmin. I was crossing my fingers that wasn’t going to be your fate as well. Glad you got out of there ok. 🤘

    3. Sleeping pad
    4. Grid fleece hoodie

    I enjoyed every second of the footage of this adventure. Hiking above 8,000' is definitely something the bod isn't use to.
    I especially appreciated the absence of "eating" footage.
    Everyone has off days when out in the boonies. Gotta listen to what your ole bod is telling you.

      Ah good guesses, but not quite correct. I've had the shorts in a previous trip video and gear list, as well as the watch I've had for the past year. The fleece was a great observation. :)

    I hate getting a couple miles out and thinking "this sucks", knowing that you MUST get yourself out, because no one's going to hike it for you! Gotta just suck it up, do what needs to be done and know when to turn around. USE TREKKING POLES. Also, wear your Zoleo on your body, not your pack. If you lose your pack, then you've lost your insurance.

    You may have some kind of bug/flu. Or...you might need Diamox, prescribed by a doctor for folks traveling to high altitude environments. Altitude sickness can develop ar relatively lower elevations if not acclimated. I've no personal experience with it. I believe you take it before traveling high, and certainly before a person is experiencing symptoms. Talk to a Doctor and ATB

    Sorry you weren’t feeling a bit better. Always a struggle to make a bailout decision when you’re out with a friend. After spending 5 hours watching GearSkeptic videos on back country water treatment, seeing cattle made me wonder. How you were sourcing and treating water on your hike?

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  11 месяцев назад +1

      Will is an awesome friend and he deserves a lot of credit for putting up with my poor attitude at times. ha.
      I just get water from any of the streams or lakes. Even if I know there are cows in the area. I ought to look into the gearskeptic videos. Not familiar with them.

    • @richardcrosson9286
      @richardcrosson9286 11 месяцев назад

      Think you would find them useful. They are pretty dense. It would be great if you could do a video dumbing them down and conveying the essentials.

    I just cannot imagine the cruelty of catch and release fishing. You're subjecting fish to pain for nothing more than your sense of accomplishment. You are not eating them, they are not serving as sustenance for you, so you are injuring fish and inflicting suffering on them just to serve your ego.

  • @ChristianPaulPhotography

    Allsop is a fun one! I think I was in the 60+ fish landed there. There is supposedly, according to Dan Ransom, a trail on the Norice side of that pass you climbed. Sorry you weren’t feeling well. It’s all part of the experience. Just glad it was not a trip ender. 🥾⛰️

    • @WasatchWill
      @WasatchWill 11 месяцев назад +1

      There is still bits of the old sheepherder trail up there but a lot of it has eroded away, especially coming right off the pass. It was much more prominent when I found it my my first time up there 5 or 6 years ago.
