- A fully renovation of an apartment building built in 1972. This is the home of Shinya and Ayaka Kojima the architecs. Nearly half of the 90m2 is used for the LDK, creating a spacious atmosphere. Private rooms such as the bedroom and study are kept as small as possible. There was a pipe space in the middle of the floor that could not be moved, so the toilet and the study were placed on both sides of the space, surrounded by diatomaceous earth walls to create a circulation line. They are developing a brand of renovation which uses the same materials and equipment as this home as standard.

I just cannot get enough of these traditional Japanese aspects in modern design homes. So little space is needed to live comfortably and stress free. In Australia there are so many huge homes full of clutter and wasted space. I am a retired professional cleaner so I have seen a lot of ugly homes in my life. With Japanese in laws it is always a balm for my frazzled mind to visit Japan and stroll and just soak up these wonderful little buildings. Using an existing building to work with is the key. You can redesign the parts that don't work and keep the parts that do. This is a beautiful home.
I really love how Japanese keep with tradition, for instance having tatami mats, shoji screens and Japanese made appliances like Panasonic, Hitachi, Toshiba or Iris Ohyama. I don’t like how big cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are adapting more Western style architecture and design. The apartment is beautiful, airy and uncluttered.

自然素材を使うと香や空気みたいなものが全然違うので、砂壁や珪藻土を使ってるのはさすがだなぁと思いました。
襖は本当に美しいですね！
また板戸は現代の住まいであまり見かけないのでハッとしました。木目に表情があってとても良いですね✨
