It really was. Nothing else including the sequel has really dragged me in, and I don't think one ever will. The feeling of it being such a cool world with the different flavours everywhere was so well fleshed out. It wasn't a perfect game, but it was really good at giving you a feel for places.
+Corey Vaughn-Patterson Definitely imbagon. Always imbagon. I find it funny that the Assassin and Dervish were the more "badass" professions when they were released, and were subsequently nerfed to hell quickly...but then the Rit and Paragon took forever to finally get taken down a notch. ;D
GW1 is still to this day one of the best games I've ever played. There's still nothing out there like it. I've tried Path of Exile, which a lot of people have said scratches a similar itch, but it never came close to the same feeling (though it is a fun game in its own right). Nightfall was by far my favorite expansion.
16:00 i will never forget. The festival of Lyss. This track right here will always stay with me. I used to play Guild Wars many years ago as a young teen with my father. I remember being very excited to finish my classes and come home so my father and I could play. The Grand court of Sebelkeh however was the final outpost i saw my father ingame. My father was struggling financially and had to give up his computer and move to another country so he could support his family. It has now been nearly 10 years and I am hoping to see him soon. A few years ago i finally finished GWAMM and unlocked the titles at grand court of sebelkeh for him.
Going to love this expansion until the day I die. No one explored Northern African and Arabic inspired cultures like this game did. Here's to hoping we restore Vabbi, fight alongside Kourna, and be able to call Istan home again in GW2.
Yeah it even has many sub-Saharan African (particularly Malian with some Swahili and Zulu) influences which tend to be woefully underrepresented in all fantasy media let alone videogames.
I know I am a bit late but I just started getting into Guild Wars. I got all of the DLC's, and I'm currently playing the Nightfall campaign. I'd have to say that I've never played a game before with this African/Arabic setting, very unique and fun.
My first MMO was Guild Wars 1. I put in nearly 14,000 hours into that game, and enjoyed every bit of it. Some of my greatest memories were in that game, especially with PvP.
This chapter was a bitter sweet one for me as it marked the start of the end. As a Prophecies brat we all started growing up, getting jobs, going to college etc and one by one we stopped logging on. By the end of nightfall what was once a packed Guild Hall with a full active roster was dwindled down to less than a full party for the release of EOTN. By the end it was just me left. Not a single guildie had been on for weeks when I finished the end. Roughly once a year I log on for a day or so, just to wander the zones we use to hang out and get drunk at. I always log out in my Hall of Monuments to admire the memories all the trophies bring, but I can't stay there very long without breaking down. Guild Wars was such a magical time.
if you startet too play gw as a kid as i does because some schoolfriend showed me the big gamebox at school and we starting playing together, after 6 years you know that feeling that i have right now listen to this ........ nostalgia......
Each time i hear this music i just remember my character face down in the dirt, laying in the middle of the desert, and a bunch of hostile npc's circling me. But it was allot of fun!
I love this soundtrack! This expansion was so much fun and a much needed break from Factions, where I was always the "bait" to lure Shiro around the map in the final boss fight. The bullets I'd sweat from the fear of being hacked to bits by the raving madman with twin swords as a Ritualist/Necromancer lol.
many sleepless nights roaming the desert at night, prophecies will always be ultimate nostalgia but nightfall was very cozy and interesting with its hero system.
how i miss the old days ! this magic in each part of this song - now they mixed the whole music in every fucking situation, for an old gamer its the most brutal feeling -.- e.g playling snowy landscape hear the sound of ascalon WTF ! I WANT MY PARAGON Back the best holy character ive ever seen :(
Jeremy Soul is the best composer ever. All GW soundtracks and TES soundtracks are the best I've ever heard, especially Factions and Nightfall soundtracks.
I cannot stand the epicness of Land of the Golden Sun. Has always reminded me of the defeat of Abaddon and...how everyone congratulates you, and you walk the path of victory after so much struggle and all... I just love it!
I started with GuildWars a few weeks after Nightfall came out. The first Pack i bought was Factions, though i didn't got the setting at first, but i was stunned by the epic login-screen-music. Some days, I just sat in front of my computer and listened to the Nightfall-theme. I'm doing the same right now. And I'm crying a litte bit.
Why there's an Indian sitar as the first instrument you hear in this African-inspired game I don't know, but whatever, it sounds cool. Boy does this game have an amazing soundtrack. After you defeat Abaddon and you're treated to this incredible piece of music at the end it feels really, really epic! Absolutely love it!
***** Factions felt more messy and way less nicely designed in terms of maps. Nightfall had a huge variety and felt refreshing. Tired of the same asian stuff. Anyway I really miss this game, the story, the builds crafting, the music... oh man... Even GW2 isn't half epic as Guild Wars 1 was. The characters, the music, the story were memorable. GW2 feels like a fast food.
***** GW2 is terrible, you can't even make a real build, and they dare calling 4 skills a build? Most of the time you don't have a choice because some skills are mandatory while the rest is shit.
+xbon1 Sadly, compared to the original, GW2 is shit. It's a wonderful game by itself, sure, but it doesn't deserve to be seen as sequel to the original saga, rather an entirely new game built from the ground up. It has absolutely NOTHING of the mechanics from the original game, the game I grew up with, the game I loved. RIP, Guild Wars :'(
+xbon1 I played both and still play Gw2 but I must say it's less fun than Gw1. If it wasn't called Guild Wars 2 or if it didn't have any kind of relationship with arenanet I probably wouldn't have played.
Well finally we're back to elona, i'm gonna listen to the nightfall theme while I enter Path of Fire. Too bad Jeremy Soule didn't work on PoF otherwise we would've had a similar soundtrack to this. PoF soundtracks are not bad tho, but i liked this style better than the timid theme of the new expansion
Hey I have an idea for the new class. Since we're doing the African theme for Istan and Elona, lets make the new class a spear chucking singer. Honestly, how did this happen?
Paragon was my favorite thing to come out of the game. Almost never went into a hardmode map without one and the few instances it did happen i missed him. Would've loved to see him translated better into GW2, still hoping for a shout rework on the Guardian to come closer to what the Paragon was.
i dont know about all of you… but me and my portuguese guild were friends for years…. GW 1 Prophs , factions, nightfall, EOTN... allways together… years of it.. we had a friendship even if we never know eachother in real life ! Facebook didnt existed, hi5 was new i think so was bad to know them ! still… if i could i would play again… can u imagine the dream of one day, you enter the game and everyone is waiting for u !? crying here ! ffs
I hope sincerely a GW2 Factions and NightFall, for the epicness, for nostalgia, for continue the true way of Guild Wars to stand alive the dream ! Shame on my english but i've to share what i feel when i listen to Jeremy Soul =)
I've only been playing Gw2 so far (which is my first MMO, I used to play RPG like TES and TW only). Do you think Gw1 is worth buying it, even if there are way less people on it now ? I like Gw2 and I wanna try the first one now because of PoF and Palawa Joko. Shall I buy it ? Thank you in advance and sorry for the possible mistakes ^^
Sure, but get ready to play the vast majority of the game alone. Also, GW's gameplay is vastly different from GW2. No jumping. Click to move. Complete freedom in your skillbar. Party-based combat.

Honestly i loved Guild Wars up until this point when they released the Hero system, its what started making GW not an MMO anymore. Everyone else started just relying on Heroes over other Players which is what made GW so great. Don't get me wrong Heroes helped to the point of farming but know one did anything together anymore which kind of sucked.
I don't get why die hard fans of gw1 hate gw2 that much... Man... Now you can swim, you can jump, you have mounts, you can decorate your guild halls, you have more playable weapons per profession, you can move while casting, much more freedom to play alone without the need for heroes or a party... What else do you want? xD
Hey, the description says Tracklist, but it's not there! And I am too stupid to see it on the video! this is great though. These are hard to find outside of the game. I did though and have it all in Spotify :D

Well... you are not wrong. But my Heroes never went into a fight with a bad build and they all listened to my calls. Without a proper guild the game was fun (for me), but the heroes were a good substitute. I mostly did GvG so I didn't really found any issue with the heroes. Infact, I liked it because I could relax and do the campaign without having to rely on other people.
And some people just used them as a substitute to have reliable builds when there weren't enough people to form a whole party. Heroes were just a bit more convenient then henchmen since you could make your own builds but if you wanted to you could play solo from day one and many people have done so.
GuildWars 1 was best mmo game ever.
The best yea .....

+Meg Aper Palawa Joko would be the best antagonist.
+Sandroman1999 Palawa was the man! The slightly decomposed greyish undead man... But still!
I need Elona in my life for GW2. So badly, dude. Even just walking around the Elona quarter in Divinity's Reach felt like a nostalgia tease!
Yeah it even has many sub-Saharan African (particularly Malian with some Swahili and Zulu) influences which tend to be woefully underrepresented in all fantasy media let alone videogames.
Awesome they need to make another one.
Guildwars Nightfall, Was one of the most fun games i've ever played. DoA was amazing, the atmosphere, tormented wapens, the gems, everything

Epic music for what I understand an epic game, Jeremy Soule is a very skilled and talented composer, a delight.
