Mr. Blair seems to have the faster car, but gets stuck on the long way around. Love the sound of the flathead V8. Also listen to the transmission whine from the gears meshing. Gotta love it!
IM 71 BRINGS BACK WONDERFULL MEMORIES OF STOCK CAR RACING GRAMSVILLE N.Y. FRIDAY NITS WITH MY ADOPTED FAMILY. LOVE THE SOUND OF THE FLAT HEAD FORD. I STILL HAVE ONE NOW IN AN 30-A FORD TUDOR.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much....I'll post more Flathead videos later. The Black #2 that I am driving is like the one my Daddy drove back in the 40's and that is the reason I do it.
decades ago i bought a 39 Std coupe ,which had a nice running C59A in it. No interior and plenty of bondo under the blue paint. it had been raced by a guy Called Red Dawson in New Zealand ,and was his first race car . This car was my only car so was driven all the time on the street ...!. The only time i got really beat in the stop light races was when i was taking on a porker 911 and I spat the gear cluster on to the road. Your engine sounds a lot like mine. my gears whined too but they had years of abuse on them. i used a 36 straight cut gear set so it was pretty loud.
Reminds me a little of the great racing we had in the '50s at tracks like Hemlock Fairgrounds, Monroe County Frgnds. and Canandaigua Frgrnds. Great drivers too. Dutch Hoag in #96, Elmer Musclow in #18, Jerry Earl in #7, Lee Bliss in #34, Fran Jischke in #51, Billy Rafter in #22, Billy Wimble in #33, Irish Jack Murphy in #6, Jim Hurtubise in #56. Hoag, Rafter, Wimble and Hurtubise all had a go at the big time at either Daytona or Indy. Great fun watching these guys drive!
i dont remember this race! thought i did until i saw the legends car on the back straight.. enjoy seeing the flatheads run most every saturday night! will see yall this year sittin in turn 4 stuffin my face with a couple of bologna burgers haha!
The video recorder picked up that flathead sound remarkably well. Even so, no audio recording can do the flathead true justice, nor compare to hearing and *feeling* the Flathead's amazing sound.
Bill C. Blair lol a work buddy and I were watching your race videos and by the 3rd or 4th vid we knew you were gonna take 1st, ha! Your car is nasty and I enjoy watching you race. Any tips for a 337 flattie? Thank you sir
Great video! Almost like "being there" behind the wheel! I really miss the fun parts of racing..being with the pit crew...before all the "drama" began... maybe again.. someday! Nothing beats the sound of a flathead!
That was without a doubt the coolest vid I've ever seen on you tube! lol My neighbors probably thought I was nuts because I was going GO GO as you were passing the other cars. Thanks for posting Bill C.
WOW!!! Now that's a Flatty!!!! My wife has a 1942 Business coupe with a 59A, dual 94's, Offy heads, and a race cam, but it doesn't sound like that. Cool video!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Track is too short to be fun. That little V8 sounds angry about it as well ! DAMN... I could listen to this forever. It's about time that I do MY 59A for my 35 3W.
That was great fun! Thanks for the ride along. I agree that a bigger track would have been better. I would rather watch these guys over the modern day NASCAR anyday!
Gotta love winding up those old flatmotors !!...the last ones were produced 60 years ago !!...I remember watching the races at Wall Stadium in New Jersey as a kid in the 50s...99% of the modifieds were flathead powered...except for Parker Bohn in the #659 GMC six cylinder powered car...he would give the flathead guys fits !!...good times !!
Although it says this is a 10-year-old race video, I was surprised to see 1940's Fords with Flattey engines still racing. I wonder what the build limitations on those flatheads were, or was it the track size that limited the passing speeds?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Next race wasn't so good, I got wrecked by an idiot. It is on ytube, got wrecked at Ace. Let me know what you think of it.
wow! awesome racing and terrific sounding engine! I was just wondering, how much for a flathead just like that labor and all total? I mean, I know that a more modern small block is more cost effective but I'm a flathead fan and would love one just like that one to drop in a ratrod!
Did that motor hesitate throughout the race ? The video car had the race but other mistakes or mechanical problems cost it. I’d really enjoy if camera was set up so I could see the drivers inputs , then I could answer my own question. This is a lot of fun , don’t get this stuff here in Australia
Mr. Blair, what body style and year? I am really torn between the 32 coupe and the 40s model deluxe. I love the sound of the flathead for certain, I long for one soooo bad. What body styles was most commonly used for stockcars in the 40s? I am really new to this world but I do know some of the basics but I still lack in knowledge greatly so any help would be appreciated.
I enjoyed this video very much i love the sound of the Flathead v8 we only had one car in the UK with a v8 Flathead and that was a ford pilot it was recorded that bank robbers loved them because they could outrun the police Wolsleys And .you guys have some balls to race like that on a short oval
saw an article in a hotrod magazine about old racing flatties.. one guy put a 2nd carb under the intake manifold and it proved to be a hard to beat car back in its day...thought that was cool info....
Out of curiosity, do you figure that a more modern OHV Ford 260 or 289 would provide more performance dollar-for-dollar? I'm not questioning your commitment to flatties, just wondering.
The engines are flathead Fords...290 max cu in......modifies can have multi carbs, like the #2 car, which is a Modified. The Sportsman are limited to a two barrel carb and intake....max, weight is 2,800 lbs. with driver. Must use original slider springs...can use disc brakes and modern shocks....8 point roll-cage...modern race seat with 5 way safety belt harness...fuel cell. Try to keep the car as vintage as possible, but safety is our main concern, as our rules reflect. Thanks for asking.
That gives you the whole track to move your car around and you can run much faster. The only problem is when you lap slower cars and they aren't paying attention.
Love the roar of the flat head. The flat head was one of the best engines that Ford made.
Ahhh, the grand old days!! Brings back memories of 74 & 47 at Norwood (MA) Arena. The family seats in turn one! Love it!
Haven't driven a racecar in over 10 years.Didn't miss it much TILL NOW......Great car, great video! Thanks for sharing!!!

1000 times more exciting than a F1race!
1000 times slower than an F1 race!

This has been one of the most visceral things that I`ve ever seen on video. Thanks for posting.
this is the sickest sound i ever heard , fcking love it, also love the way ford GT sounds, and it looks amazing
Very cool stuff ! Ya had me leaning into the turns in my desk chair ! Sweaty palms and everything !
Thank you......that flathead sounds absolutely magic
Awesome video! Thank You for letting us watch.
This is great!

LOVE THE ROAR OF THAT FLAT HEAD!
Man, this is what racing must have been like back in the 1950's! GREAT!
This video pulled me out of clinical depression.....
I'm glad it helped. Some times I set and watch theme over and over. Thanks for watching.

There is something so satisfying about a grindy old Saginaw and a V8 thundering down the racetrack.

Big cams increase revs but flatheads can barely reach 3k.
Love those sounds 😊
Track is too short to be fun. That little V8 sounds angry about it as well !
DAMN... I could listen to this forever. It's about time that I do MY 59A for my 35 3W.
I think a longer track would be a bit much for a flathead. They're not high-RPM motors. But, listening to them wind would be great!
@@grampacanuck Duhh they can't breathe!
drove to the front like a BOSS
I run a Flathead with straight through pipes in my '46 Pickup,(see avatar) sounds pure heaven.
That was great fun! Thanks for the ride along. I agree that a bigger track would have been better. I would rather watch these guys over the modern day NASCAR anyday!
I love this sound
I would absolutely love to do this!
OMG I haven't seen this stuff since I was a kid-Milton Speedway, Thunder Road!
Thanks for the ridealong.

Flatheads make garbage power and horrible airflow.
Although it says this is a 10-year-old race video, I was surprised to see 1940's Fords with Flattey engines still racing. I wonder what the build limitations on those flatheads were, or was it the track size that limited the passing speeds?

Omg 65 mph is breathtaking
As I get time, I will post more videos of these Flatheads. Thanks for viewing.
Man watching this I started leaning into the corners lol
Brings back memories of Saturday Night Racing at the 'ROCKPILE' here in Buffalo NY.... 'cept for one thing...all the cars look brand new.😂
Thanks for watching....glad you enjoy it. I really don't notice the air...I am focused on what I am doing and what the others are doing.
I enjoyed it but you should coyote or ls swap it.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Next race wasn't so good, I got wrecked by an idiot. It is on ytube, got wrecked at Ace. Let me know what you think of it.
Very amazing saund❤
it gives me ideas for my 41 Cadillac.
Thanks for watching.
Love the sound of a Chrysler 230 6cyl
Wow...... that looks like fun!! My grandfather has a 48 Ford Coupe that I might rebuild and use for this type of racing. Also where is this track??
I ‘d love to see you set up to run a road course like Mosport, Watkins Glen, Laguna Seca...!!!
Remember by children... my father's car. FORD V8 1940.
Where is this? I'm from Boston, Ma Boston and we can't have fun like this around here.
sounds freakin fantastic

Exciting stuff !
That was awesome!! I bet those flatheads were really cooking after that lol
That looks like FUN!
Long live the flatty.
Excellent soundtrack that kick's ass....
Built Ford tough and built Ford proud
It is a 4/10 of a mile track. It has short straight-a-ways and like most tracks it has a sharper 4th. turn. Thanks for watching the video.
Did that motor hesitate throughout the race ? The video car had the race but other mistakes or mechanical problems cost it. I’d really enjoy if camera was set up so I could see the drivers inputs , then I could answer my own question. This is a lot of fun , don’t get this stuff here in Australia
That's Bobby Apple in the "V8" car. He was a cool guy. Looks like y'all had a good race going!
I could tell when he was about to take the car in front of him everytime, great strategy.
Pass high, pass low, block -- pedal to the metal . . .good fun video.
what are you running for a cam and gear? bad ass sounding flathead!

The Flathead V8 was built and available in the UK from 1932 (Model18) upto 1951 (Model E17A) the Pilot .
Be great if someone could tell us some specs on these racers, engine ,trans, etc.
Can anyone tell me please what transmissions these cars are running?
also how do you make them that loppy? just bigger cam and bore? they sounds great
Who won?

This track is ridiculous

What cars are these anyway? Are they Standards?

I run a flat-tapit cam with a profile that I designed and own the master to it. I run speedway valves and isky 185 springs.
