Thank you for giving me the courage to tackle this job. The chip in the enamel of my bathroom sink wasn't very big. I followed your example by masking off the damaged area and then by building up layers of paint, maybe seven layers altogether, one layer each day. I spent more time shaking the paint than applying it. I expected that the process of rubbing down the paint, feathering the edges and smoothing with very fine sandpaper would take hours but I was so surprised when I had finished in 15 minutes. I spent more time watching your video than sanding the paint! My wife is delighted with the invisible repair. Great video!

Great video thank you! I've watched a bunch of videos in the last few days about repairing bath tub chips and rust spots and most of them are not very good! This is the best video I've seen by far, clear instructions, good product information, and great result. I'll be ordering some porc-a-fix today!

I've watched several videos on this type of repair and yours gave the best result by far, I see in the comments that the repair took 5 days, so patience pays off. I agree that you need to let the repair paint cure completely so that it sands more easily. I also see that you said that the repair turned color slightly, you might try polishing it with a white rubbing compound. It can't hurt and it might bring the white color back. Great video.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I think the rubbing compound is a good idea and would help. I could also touch it up with the leftover paint since it didn't take much to perform the repair. Even with the color fading a little, it is still difficult to see where the repair was. I have since learned that Porc-A-Fix also makes a filler compound that would have sped up the process somewhat. I just damaged my tub with a granite backsplash that fell and chipped it. I have almost the exact same size chip in a similar place. I'll give this a whirl. Thank you!
I dropped a tile in mine too. Try this fix and I think you will like it. Key is to build up the layers in multiple passes, let it dry overnight between coats and sanding. Wet sand with 2000 or 3000 sandpaper. My wife wanted me to replace it but the fix came out so good she was ok.

I thought that you were missing a pretty big spot. Then I realized that it was a speck on my computer monitor. It goes to show that you should always clear off your monitor if you sneeze when using your desktop computer. That is especially true if you had been eating Oreos.
I thought I had seen the same situation here too. lol
I think that's a pretty good job there, a lot of patience shown, but well worth it.
It came out pretty good. I was very happy with it. That was a brand new tub that I dropped a tile in. Wife wanted me to replace the tub but she was happy with the fix too.

It’s been over two years and this product held up fine other than a slight change in color. I would use it again.

Hello, this is a great job, you can't even see the repair. I repaired 2 small holes (5mm) in my white metal bathtub using MIlliput Epoxy putty, but used too much and now need to sand down two areas approximately 10mm x 20mm each. Can you please advise what grit sandpaper to start with, that will not damage the bath, and whether it should be wet? I've seen 1500 grit wet sandpaper being suggested elsewhere
I would rather the 1500 grit but if all I had was 1200 then use it with a light touch. Definitely sand it while wet. Will have less chance of scratching.

Apply in thin coats and let each dry before sanding or adding more.
That's why you had so much build up or sag at the bottom edge.
You will have to sand less as a result.
The tape really isn't necessary if you have a steady hand.
I agree. The thinner the better. Also it has to be real dry to get a good result. That’s why I took extra time to let it dry overnight. Sanding didn’t really take that long though.

They do also make a chip filler product that goes under the paint so you can raise up the chip level so you aren't adding so many layers of paint.

Later in the video he says it came with 2000 grit, but he is also using 3000 grit

Thanks to Icebreaker for replying also. I preferred the 3000 grit mainly because it has less chance of scratching. I also sanded while it was wet and kept washing it with water. Thanks to both of you for watching too.
Remove the tape right after each coat.

Been about two years. Repair is still holding up well. Still can hardly see the repair although if has faded a little. I still recommend it. Used 3000 grit sandpaper.

It has held up. The color changed slightly with little bit of yellowing, but you can hardly see it. I could always put another coat on top if it ever got very noticeable.
Good job but isn't that area all matte from the sanding now
By using 3000 grit and keeping it wet the finish still has a gloss to it.
What did you use for the glossed finished look?
Nothing. It came out that glossy with just the sanding using that 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper.
can this product be used on a kitchen sink? ive got a chip right where the faucet is
Yes. Should work fine on the sink.
Did you buff it to make it shine? How did that work out?
You do not have to buff it to make it shine. That was going to be my backup if it didn't shine well enough, but i didn't have to buff it.
My bathtub has Briggs logo. It seems the color is close to Biscuit (235). Is this standard color? Does Porc-A-fix has this color? Thanks.
They do offer a lot of colors. I remember seeing a chart with about 25 colors on it. Google to find their web site and you should be able to get something close to that color. Good luck with it.

@@beckhamzhang4805 It is a little difficult to find info on them. They must be a small company. Here is a couple of things that might help. If you google "Porc-A-Fix color chart" you will see a number of charts. If you go to www.fixture-fix.com that is their web site and it has ways to contact them. If you go to Amazon and search "Porc-A-Fix Biscuit", a number of biscuit colors of the product will show up that you can purchase. Good luck with it.

I have an actual hole in my porcelain sink. Can I fix it with this?
This cannot be used to fix a hole. It could be used to coverup whatever you decide to repair the hole with though.
Can I use this on a small crack inside a hot tub?
I am not sure that it will stick well to a fiberglass surface of a hot tub. I would search for some products that are designed for fiberglass.
How many days did it take you to repair this? My light above my kitchen sink just shattered causing a huge chip in my kitchen sink.
I only added one coat of paint over the chip at a time. Let it dry a day between coats. Took 5 days for that. Sixth day I sanded it. Almost all the time is just letting the paint dry. You could try to go a little faster, but I knew the paint would sand better if it was harder so I went real slow.

@@FixItDepot I wonder if you could have used a heat gun to shorten time between coats.
@@Shefjr I never tried it, but it might work. Just be careful the heat doesn't get too high and damage the paint on the tub. If I was doing this again, I would order the filter paint that has the extra filler in it, and it should take fewer coats to complete the job.

The "white" brushed on liquid is the filler paint. The clear liquid in the plastic cup is water.
You could use a little (car) cutting polish and it will be perfect great good

Yep I would’ve taken my Random orbital sander with a 3” orange cutting pad after application and chased it with 3” a polish pad. And would’ve finished the job in a fraction of the time! Kudos for hand wet sanding, though!

It is called "Porc-a-fix". If you searh the name on Amazon a number of sellers will show up. You will have to see if any of them will sell overseas.
Nicely done. We have an iron tub with a small 'cut' from an angle grinder when tile wall was removed... but not 100% sure if it's enamel or porcelain. How did you know what it was on your iron tub? ...or can you use the Porc-A-Fix on enamel as well, thus not mattering which it is? Thanks
Mine was a new “steel” tub so I knew. I think the product will work on yours too. I am pretty sure it will work on both enamel and porcelain.
how long did you let it dry between coats?
I waited til the next day. I wanted to make sure the paint was real dry.
Is it one coat each day? Or apply many coats same day and then wait next day to start sanding?
I did one coat per day because I wanted the paint to be very hard before sanding. So I thought it would work better by building up the surface with thinner coats. If not hard , it might not sand very well. You could probably do a coat in the morning and one in the evening evening and speed it up some.
Can you fix a hole that is about 10x that big?
It will probably take more coats to fill it up but should work.

I watched some videos and some said "fill in the hole", which I didn't know if one this large could be "filled" in.
@@christiehlinger6180 Some people are using various types of putty which would fill it faster, but I also wonder how well they will stick, especially when temperature changes from hot and cold water could affect expansion and contraction of the putty. I would try the Porc-a-fix first because it should adhere better, in my opinion. Plus you probably need to paint the putty afterwards to match color.
My chip is by the drain area will work in area that often gets wet?
Essentially it is a paint. So the area will have to be clean and dry when it is applied, and then left to dry. You could apply it before going to sleep and then let it dry over night. It should work around the drain area too.
How is it holding up?
The color of the paint has changed over time and is an off white. Doesn’t match as well as when new, but still good. Other than that everything else looks the same. I would use it again.
@@FixItDepot any chance you can post what the off white looks like? Have the option of buying an americast tub for 1/5 the price of new with a small chip like yours in it but its for a total bath remodel and don't want to regret it.

I guess if color doesn't 100% match, there's really no point getting in a >1000 grit sandpaper, which are often sold in packs, for one time use
Need the sandpaper to smooth and match the surface. Nothing to do with color.
@@FixItDepot Most vendors of this has a sandpaper included (mine was a 250 grit). If you start with like an 80 and finish with 250, it's gonna be pretty good. Most people don't have spare 2000 grit paper lying around. Such high grit paper is meant to be used last, not first. If people want to even polish it further with a 2000, they can buy it, but personally I don't feel like buying it if the color is off, ie the patch is noticeable.
@@probaye I understand your reasoning and it makes sense. I had a brand new tub that was damaged and wanted to make sure it didn't get damaged more from the 250 grit paper. Hope it comes out good for you.
That looks like enamel, not porcelain....
I think the touch up paint is an enamel. It is pretty durable. It’s been over two years and the the repair still looks good.

I can understand that. You could use the filler material they now have to build it up with fewer coats and save some time. Also try a heat gun to reduce the drying time. It’s still not a quick process though. Other option is to find an epoxy based system. Good luck with it.
