I’m a lifelong pro player and have completely switched over to short scale bass’s during the last two years.
I now own 2 Sterling Short Scale Stingrays, 2 Ibanez Mezzo medium scale bass’s and this Ibanez Mikro bass,, I absolutely love them all.
Cheers, Davyo
Do you have one you prefer?
@@speedwolf5212 actually I prefer my Ibanez Mikro bass’s over my 2 Mezzo bass’s and 2 SS Stingray bass’s.
Since my original post I now own a total of 4 Mikro bass’s, two 4 string Mikro’s and two 5 string Mikro’s,,, my 5 string Mikro’s have become my main gig bass’s.
I’m running my 5 string Mikro’s thru my Hartke combo amps, HD115 tilt back Hartke or my HD500 2x10 combo.
The Mikro’s sound awesome going thru my Hartke bass combos and easily fill any small to medium sized venue I’m playing at.
Hope that info was helpful.
Cheers, Davyo
Glad to hear a somewhat grown man say this bass is for him as well:)
@@BassedInVegas Thanks for posting this info! It is a big help. Thank you.
At the risk of seeming a shill, I use a Gretsch Junior Jet and I haven't been able to look back. Even my other short scales don't compare (though I do have an Ibanez miKro that I like because it is still smaller and very often more convenient).
Everyone loves the bass part in "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac...good call!!!
😒
I own Rickenbackers Fenders Gibsons Hamers and a few boutique basses, and the one I always grab on band nights is my miKro. Friggen bass is light, has surprisingly powerful PUs, and an excellent honest neck. A great bass. Pound for pound and inch for inch the best bass I own.
It looks so hilariously tiny when you hold it! When I play it looks a lot more in proportion, but I'm a 5'5 lady so I guess that's why.
I'm a 5' 5" guy, ... I'd love to re-string with heavy gauge guitar strings and use this as a baritone 4-string guitar.
Imagine Peter Steele playing this, it would look like an ukulele
@@nesfan8 🤣
I love how he’s playing the chain bass line at the start
why?
Why do you "love" it?
@@ricky4001cs Why can't he? Isn't he allowed to?
@@TomaTo-zh8cr of course he is. I simply asked why he did......love.........it
@@ricky4001cs besause it sounds nice;)
1:16 reminder that this is in the opposite way: the P-Bass pickups are the ones dark and mellow because they're placed where the sound of the string is rich in low end, and the J-Bass pickup is the punchy one because its closer to the bridge, where the string is really tight, so the sound of the string there its rich in mid range and high end
nice demo for a nice and affordable bass :)
The j pickup sounds dark and punchy to me. While the p is bright but not punchy, more roaring
you didn't expect this asshole to know that did ya?
And it's great for playing in a band. I've played short scale bass for years and everyone loved it.
It just took 3 mins to love this guy
I have two top of the line Ibanez, including the Affirma, but always pick up my Mikro just because it's fun to ram around on and sounds great. The only thing I did to it out of the box was change to flat wounds and re-did the intonation, but everything else was pretty much dead on.
It’s a sweet little bass especially if you have short fingers. Easy and smooth to play in that regard. Change to nylon wound strings and it gets deep and mellow even with a small amp.
*RUSSELL BRAND*
EXACTLY!
Mine is black with a maple fretboard. I Love it! The strings sound as good as new and I have had this bass for years!
0:53 he just burnt EVERYBODY
holy fuk
Bruh😂😂
Thanks, THIS is british humor, to make fun of others.
That part kills me every time! 🤣
I honestly don't see the point of full scale basses anymore.
The body and neck are great, so it's a great project bass if you're into modding.
Full bass has its own sound and if you have bigger hands the fretts are normal size
@@MrClassicmetal have any suggestions?
@@bsaw00 Weird. My reply with the specs keeps disappearing...🤔
@@baileyconway6890 i have big hands, but the smaller bass is still easier to play
Every time I see a review of one of these things, it's buzzier than my favorite vibrator.
I have a black one and Dave at K.S.M music in Logan Utah put quarter pounders semore duncan pickups in it and a K.S.M bridge designed by Dave... it's now a beast great bass guitar
I tried one of these and was surprised at the good sound and playability! :D
I bought one of these a couple of years ago. Great little bass. Was very surprised at the tone and the quality, especially for the price, $200.
FYI, this bass is made of poplar wood and not mahogany, much lighter (under six lbs) than Gretch short scale, for example. Still sounds great!
I’m a big dude and I want this bass!!
If you want a fatter tone/timbre then short scale (less than 31") is the way to go. Pure physics.
Just ordered one. Like the humourous quips!
piedpeter1 me too dude. From Amazon. I haven’t received it yet. Is it awesome? I got it for my wife. I hope she likes it.
I Got me A Blue one Today Great Sounding Bass Thanks
I've got one and I'm very enjoy! sounds really great
I have a black one with semore duncan quarter pounders pickups and a K.S.M music bridge from K.S.M music in Logan Utah.... awesome bass
The damn things are amazing I got my girl on, I have many guitars and basses and I still find me picking it up. Fun playing Royal Blood covers with it.
don't you think might be a fun stuff to replace pick up and / or mechanics to get quality stuff ?
Thumping good day. I like basses with a PJ pickup arrangement. Hitting the bass hard today.
I got one and didn't get on very well with it atall. And that's considering I am mainly a guitar player, not really a bassist. Scale length meant the E string was just too floppy when tuned to E and needed to be tuned half a step up before it felt right.
Ended up getting a full size Sire Jazz bass and am getting on with it a lot better- even though it is a lot bigger and heavier.
Thanks i might be getting this bass
Thank you. I'm going to buy i. I'm going to buy the purple or black one. Thank you for this video!!!!
Yeah, FLEETWOOD MAC... was a great influence, in the 70's with that bass riff!! I had a RickenBacker 4001 back then. Now, i choose a lil 2010 Ibanez GSRM20 bass for my 2 year old son ALEX (alex van halen). It's really daddy's bass...and shared with ALEX. haha Boom, booom.....boom! Here we come ROCK-n-ROLL again! Kiddies.... "It's a long way to the top, if you wanna rock-n-roll!!"
I wish Yamaha did the TRBX304 in a Short Scale = phenomenal Bass with Tremendous Value. oNe LovE from NYC
Looks like it would be fast to play. Looks good for metal
I wondering how it sounds in a mix.
The amp, effects, tone control make it sounds big. Cheaper than than the big one.
I ordered this 2 weeks ago and it’s still backordered ☹️
Did you order from guitar center?!? And is it still on backorder? Cause I’m trying to buy one rn
same…it’s coming in two months :(
How did he know I am hiding from my family in a hotel? This is getting weird fast.
was literally just listening to Tango in the night
You can tell he’s a duff fan
I want the walnut brown one but musical instruments stock is always skittish. It's hard to find a store that has the model and color you want. Although I guess at this price I could order it online for delivery.
I own two ... make one fretless ... it's a crazy fantastic bass, and happens to be $179 ... I mean it's a great great, easy to play, sounds fine.
That’s my plan to rip the frets outta it. My SRF700 is just way too big for me.
As a 5’4 man this is perfect for me 😂😂
As a 5'7 man this would also be good for me
Ibanez should do this same bass but with better parts (for something like 700 euros) as well so I could buy them both!
Maybe you can put in some fancy pickups and hardware?
What suitcases do you use ? :D

Small bass small pp
I bought one, it's Great !!!
Good rvw..
concise , funny. informative
and to the point. 95th percentile!
British. No bollocks talk.
Btw the body is made of poplar not mahogany and fretboard is Jatoba not rosewood.
thanks for this review... which one do you prefer between the Ibanez TMB30IV and this one? they sounds similar?
Hey Russells back.
Is this recommended for a serious playing? I'm starting a band with my good buddies, and we agreed to take things seriously. The bassist is a guitarist-turn-to-bassist who struggled to reach the frets of a bass.. Will this be good & okay for gigging (or even professional use) after component upgrades?
Absolutely. I've been playing regular guitar for 40 years and picked up a Mikro for home studio recording to add in some bottom end to the mixes. I went with Mikro because I wanted really deep and dark bass tones and it's a really easy jump from guitar over to the Mikro since they're basically the same size. This thing is an absolute blast to play and it does the job just fine and sounds great in my mixes. I like it so much that I'm thinking about doing some upgrades to it. Can't beat the price as well. Picked one up on sale with a nice gig bag out the door at $170 couple of years ago.
Short & Sweet🩸🦇🩸just how I like it😁
I have that bass... I am 5’2 and its very comfy :>
Is this a active or passive bass ? I just ordered one it will be my first don’t know too much :(
Will it accept strings for long scale bass?
'or those angry people who are vertically challenged' 🤣🤣
I'm seeing specs on websites stating poplar body...
Isnt the fingerboard jatoba instead of rosewood..?
its not about the size.
its what you do with it...
I wish this guy was my uncle
Why don't you demo the tone control. Sounds tinny like you had tone crontrol all the way to treble the whole time so it doesn't even sound like a bass. Sounds very grating and unpleasant.
It is NOT a mahogany body....Neck: GRSM 4, 28.60"
Body: Agathis body
Frets: Medium frets
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Poplar body, yeah? Jotoba fretboard.
fingerboard is *new zealand pine*
@@al5353al5353 some of them used to have jatobs. this one not
Pleeeaaase, this is driving me nuts. What is the song at the very beginning? I know it, I have it, I like it, but I do not remember.... Argh! :-D Thank you! And as soon as I know it, I'll give it a try too! :-)
The chain by Fleetwood Mac
I'm looking to buy either this or the Talman short scale. Which do you recommend?
Talman is a bit longer.
I own the short scale Talman. A short scale neck on a full size body. A fairly heavy bass for its size. I’d recommend the Mikro if you’re looking for a smaller body/weight ratio.
Have these changed since 2017?? Cuz I'm looking at one now and it says poplar body, whereas this says mahogany...
Factory specs say it's an okoume body.
No matter what wood it actually is, this thing sounds amazing.
I'm in love with mine.
What is the intro bass line i cant for the life of me think of what it is ive heard it a bunch tho
graves underhill Fleetwood Mac- The Chain
Does it come with a gigbag?
What’s the resistance of the pickups?
thanks for the review! But, what was the lick you were playing at the intro?
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac's the Chain
That intro was EVIL🤘 Was it any particular song or was it just improvised? 6 years later and these videos are still useful.
It is a song, and I know what it is but can’t think of it 😭 hopefully it comes to me

Unfortunately, it's rattling awfully, however much I love wbat I see
20 1/2 inch scale? I thought it's 28.6 inch
You are right, it is 28.6 (or around that).
Are you the brother of Aldous Snow?
Yh
What sizes strings are on there
Do we have motels in the UK?
sorry a newbie here. does it sound different than a normal bass?
nakonakonii every bass sounds different so yes and no
@@slalskekeyehen9353 thanks for the answer!
As far as it sounding different because of the size, no. But as mentioned, all basses sound differently.
Short scales do have a slightly bassier, rounder tone than full scales.
Get a good bass amplifier with over 100 amps and it will sound strong and bassy.
This guy literally sounds alright cause he's got it plugged into the best rig in the world... They sound so bad without a really expensive amp backing it up.
I've got one of these with the walnut finish (so unlacquered, basically) plugged into a Fender Rumble 40.
Sounds amazing.
@@brunocyclist I have the same one in the walnut finish plugged into a Fender Rumble 15… it sounds killer as well
I can't see the amp he's plugged in to.
How much does it weigh?
Hello, is a good bass for beginner? or bass full scale? Thanks!
Jose García I’m a beginner and this bass is perfect in every way. My family members are very impressed with how I look and sound while playing this. I see no point in getting used to a full scale bass. This does the trick! Have no doubts.
@@judyarfa2240 very thanks!
LMAO , ON THE LAST PART!
0:40 :P
How many frets dose the mikro bass have compared to a full size bass?
That one has 22
James North thanks. Dose a normal sized bass have 24
Dude Ink it just depends on the bass. Some have 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24. For example the squire bronco has 19 frets but a 30 inch scale while the Jackson minion bass has 24 frets on a 28 inch scale. Generally speaking 24 frets are good for classical/metal playing and less frets work well in funk, pop and rock where you rarely play above the 12th
And chemtrails are tobacco smoke for the sylphs "dragons". I watch them inhale it. The planes feed them the smoke. Look up indian tobacco myths with "spirits". See my dragon video and also my shadows videos.
Not necessarily , some are 22 frets and some are 24....up to the manufacturer
i got same tone on my gsr180 but i'll get ernie ball power slinky bass string B|
What the name of the song in the beginning??
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac
lol When you want to play with something small and you're tired of looking between your legs. :D
Sounds great. I'm buying either this or the Gretsch Jet Junior bass, haven't decided yet.
Mike Whitfield what did end up buying?
Bought the Ibanez Mikro, got a sweet open box deal from Musician’s Friend for $144. It’s Roadster Orange, which I never would have selected but is absolutely gorgeous. The only flaw was some light scratching on the rear electronics cover. The bass sounds great and arrived perfectly set up, just had to tune up half step and play. This is a major step forward in my quest to own a whole room full of instruments I can’t really play and I’m having a blast with it, mostly in Rocksmith. I find the Mikro scale to be perfect for my stubby, arthritic fingers, and string spacing is sufficient that my thick peasant fingers still fit. I also have an Epiphone Beatle Bass (30.5” scale) and this plays sooo much better and is tonally more versatile to boot. I love it so much that I plan to buy another in Transparent Red, to maybe try different strings or pickups. (Or maybe just put them close together and rub my face in between them. My wife says I love it entirely too much.) In any case, if you are looking for a well built short scale bass, I highly recommend the Mikro.
@@mikewhitfield2994 Happy to hear you found the one you wanted! Thanks for the recommendation!
How much was it ?
It’s 179
Can this bass handle bigger string gauges or drop tunings like Drop C
Dont think so. But you can tune half step up and play meshuggah:)
Iago Hellyeah man 🤘
Im pretty sure you could with thicker strings. Or using a digitech drop
seriously doubt it. any short scalr already has lower tension so dropping the pitch wpuld produce a lot of amplitude and as a result fret buzz
Here’s what I started doing 30 years ago. Buy a 5 string set and only put the BEAD on. (Leave out the G)
thing is i am vertically challenge and small hands i can play a 43 but its just not comfertable so whos telling me no lmao
34*
All I heard is the fret buzz.
He's got overdrive on, my guy. That ain't buzz.
Actually it’s a little of both.
@@phataton8206 Actually, I think you're right.

love you mate - but you are so not a bass player!
I have this bass but a guitar amp so it sounds like shit lol
It's the fox! Either get a cheap bass limiter (will help a lot and you can use it even after you get a bass amp) then get a cheap behringer amp (they’re fine) eventually.
