    Even two years later, you have the most descriptive comparison of these two bags. Think Tank owes you compensation for providing important details about their products. Very helpful for making a purchasing decision. Thank you!

    Great video! Nothing flashy but the content is there and that is what counts. Btw: Anyone who does not need the double top flap, the bottle-pouch on the side or one of the other features the 5 has over the 4, you might wanna look at the first version of these bags used. Photobags are always pricey and these especially don't really wear out. I don't think there was a 4 in the first run of retrospective bags but the old 5 is almost the same thing. I have the old 7 and actually prefer it for it's simplicity.

    I've been a 2 lens shooter for many years and the 4L is great with a Fuji X-T5 w/a pancake and any 2nd lens up to a 70-300. I have had a dozen slings over the years and they all have let me down in certain ways. The TT is a gem.

    Great video, this is the only video that I have seen do a comparative review of the features and size between the four and the five, I have the four and I use it to carry my Mamiya c300 and it's perfect! I can fit the camera with the 105mm lens, sekonic l-398, four rolls of 120 and a couple of extra parts...

    Hallo. :-)

    I just got the new version of this bag and its definitly worth it, the material is great quality and the layout has been thought about so well, you can customise it for a short or long journey. Every thing just fits together neatly. Sure a cheaper bag can do the same thing but it doesnt feel as nice, if you can afford it you should definitly get it.

    I was debating what size Retrospective bag to get, the 4, the 5 or the 7. After your video I went with both the 4 and the 5. The 4 holds my rangefinder setup (Leica M and a few lenses) or a single larger mirrorless with an attached lens. The 5 holds my large mirrorless with attached lens and 2 extra lenses. After getting them, I knew the 7 would have been too large. My only issues are I wish the tablet compartment divider in the 5 was removeable and the zipper flap, while great to keep gear inside while transporting the bag in a car, is not so user friendly when carrying the bag even when velcroed or tucked into the top flap. It works but makes itself known every time you flip the top flap open.

    Nice job! I really like Think Tank products, especially the Retrospective line. I do think they need to simplify the options (e.g. why would someone want the 4 over the 5 after seeing your video?), but it seems this is their practice to offer a lot of choices at first, see what photographers gravitate to, and then simplify from there. The Skin line is a good example of how trimmed down the options have become after a few iterations.

    Hi Lindsay , one of the truely best reviews of these two bags I’ve seen, very well done. I’ve got a couple of the bigger bags from the original series and they hold up really well thats for sure. I’ve used the 30 when doing events but having moved to mirrorless and being a lot older and no longer wanting to have a lot of weight on my shoulder I’m looking at something smaller just for walking about with a body with a single zoom. One of the drawbacks with the original bags has been the lack of a place for a water bottle apart from inside, rather less than ideal but been there, done that. I don’t generally like putting much other than a phone and very small items in the front pocket of these bags as I don’t like what it does to the shape aesthetics (thats just me) . I can’t get to a camera store at the moment but can order online so was wondering if you had a view on how comfortably a Canon from the R series with the 24-105 4L attached would fit in the 5 and wether you think the zip closure inside is really worth the trouble as I’ve never had trouble with stuff falling out of the older bags and quite a lot of reviewers have commented on difficulties with the sharp corners on the zip towards the back. Cheers Chris from New Zealand

    • @novphotobeagle
      @novphotobeagle  2 года назад +1

      Hi Chris! Thanks! Sorry for the delayed response! I don’t own a rebel, but I used to have a canon 7d. I have one broken lens left from those days (Canon 24-70 US L series) straight up and down there is 1.25 inches till the top with the lens back on. Looks like the R series is definitely larger than the A7C cameradecision.com/compare/Sony-Alpha-A7c-vs-Canon-EOS-R
      If you take the measurements of your camera with lens I would be happy to compare it to the internal dimensions of the bag.
      Regarding the zipper top, you would have to use two hands to get around the corners most likely. I only enable the top if I am not going to get into the bag for a while, otherwise I stuff it away as shown in the video. So I have seen it has nothing but a useful feature honestly. I love that I can use it when I need it and I can get it out of the way when I don’t.

    • @Chris-NZ
      @Chris-NZ 2 года назад +1

      @@novphotobeagle Hi Lindsay, thanks for getting back to me, really appreciate you taking the time. I managed to find the internal dimensions of these bags and decided to order the 5. The R5 fits nicely with the RF 24-105 4L attached so I’m very happy with that. Can also get the RF 50 (1.8) In plus my phone and a filter or two plus batteries without the bag looking overstuffed 😀😀👍. You are right the zip top is a two handed task and I’m with you that 90% of the time the cover isn’t necessary. I’ve never had anything fall out of my other older bigger bags in this series. I did think their implementation of the tucking away of that top cover could have been better as I found it impossible to pack it away without lumps and crinkles and have just resorted to using the Velcro on the top flap. Other than that, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for your help and again for your thorough review. Cheers Chris.

    Extremely helpful! I learned so much that I have been looking for and more. Thank you so much! One question please: what are the rough dimensions of the internal front gusset pocket and the back slip pocket on each bag? Trying to find out which bag in terms of pockets/gusset would fit an 8 inch notebook most comfortably.

    • @novphotobeagle
      @novphotobeagle  2 года назад

      Thank you! I no longer have the v4, but the v5 is wider closer to the bag at 9.25 inches and 7.5 at the front of the pocket. The height of the gusset pocket is 6 inches. I think the gusset pocket widths must be similar because I can fit my mini tripod in the v5 long ways without much room to spare and that’s how it was in the v4. I imagine the v4 might be an inch shorter in height?

    • @novphotobeagle
      @novphotobeagle  2 года назад

      Not sure I answered your question right now. My first answer was for the external gusseted pocket on the front. The internal front slip pocket is just under 5 1/2 inches tall and just over 8.25 inches wide. Back slip pocket is 5.25 inches tall to the zipper x just around 8 inches wide.

    • @novphotobeagle
      @novphotobeagle  2 года назад

      I was able to squeeze an 8 inch wide card into the back slip pocket. But anything wider or significantly thicker would probably not fit well.

      I actually have this as well as a peak design bag. I was thinking about doing a video comparing the two. PD definitely has a more modern aesthetic which is not for everyone. I use my 3L peak design everyday sling when I am going much more minimalist. I use my think tank bag when I want to carry more gear with me and a number of people have commented that they like the very rustic look of the particular color of think tank that I showed in this video. Some street photographers very much do not wanna look like they are carrying a camera bag.I
