Excellent video, thanks for the work you've put into this stuff. You can have as many samples as you like in an instrument, but only 256 slices (so this can be addressed with the Sxx command). Using Sxx without a note has no effect though.

Great tips. Another similar method we used to use is take the break, slice it up either in recycle or the waveform by hand and map it to a midi keyboard from the sampler.
Then you can trigger different slices of the sample via the keyboard.
That way you can get different variations, timings and feel of the original breaks.
It’s a method the Garage boys like Todd Edwards uses.
Loads of tiny slices of samples mapped to a midi keyboard, Todd used to just play the sounds in time to the track and he’d have all his slices tuned to the right key.
Again, I know I say this a lot but we didn’t have DAWs like this back in the day and it was all done by hand on a hardware sampler.
If you were lucky enough to have recycle that helped! 😅
    Great tutorials though 👍🏼

Yea for sure! You've actually stumbled right into what i'm working on for my latest video! (Todd the God 👀) I've been studing his record chopping techniques which are so unique and must have taken forever to do on old hardware samplers jesus! ♱
I just love the way he's taking hits from loads of different records and pitching them all around to work togeather. Such a dope artist! Cheers dude - appreicate the comments ✌️😊

    • @RoofLight00
      @RoofLight00 7 месяцев назад

@@groovining there’s a few RUclips vids of Todd explaining this process with his trusty Akai S6000.
It’s more fun and random to use samples this way but you can use virtually any kind of source material from classical to jazz, rock etc to get small snippets of sound that gel together to make the tune.
We made 2Step Garage tunes like this years back as well.
I’ve still got Gigabytes of those kinds of samples from back in the day.
Believe me it’s great fun! 🤩

Thanks Matt! I'll get back to your email shortly - Just sorting all the caves audio this weekend.
I like this technique a lot. I agree, its a really intresting way to bring life to any repetitive sequence. In some ways its a little like comping, where your cutting together slices of different takes to make a better whole.
What I also find intresting about this technique, is that your kinda reverse engineering the process of making music. Rather than coming up with cool break variations from scratch using automation etc, You already have them all created after you record the live fx sequence. You then just have to solve the puzzle of putting it back togeather!
It's like you don't really have to think too much, you just try differnt chops out until something works. All the raw ingredents are already there. ✌️

    • @groovining

Oboviously the old Akai samplers like the s950 were the original source of the timestretch. I'm pretty sure its not possible on the MPC2000xl. What you could do is resample between the MPC and Renoise and use both tools together for the best of both world!

OKAY Brother I need your help again. Ive watched all these videos 2-3 times and ordered your sample packs but im still struggling. At 22:42 in this video you import the new chopped samples from Logic. When I do this, instead of each sample playing on each key, each key just pitches the samples up and down. Then after that if I just go to the editor I don't have the option to randomize notes. I feel like im not even working in the same DAW sometimes.
