My 2000 Corolla (which doesn't use a drop of oil) has a 1zz-fe with 2 dead oxygen sensors, an exhaust leak and almost 280000 miles and I doubt the throttle body has ever been cleaned. I've had it almost 2 years now and the thing has never failed to start even with temperatures down to -20 Fahrenheit, and other than the exhaust literally falling off and a brake line popping (luckily in my driveway) the damn thing has never broken down or disappointed me. Best 400 bucks I've ever spent!
Man you just saved my life !I just finished cleaning my 01 Corolla´s throttle body, and all the sudden white smoke all over the place. Jajaja I almoust went crazy. Thank you soo much for that clarification, you rock !
Great content sir.👍🏼 However, the throttle body has its own specific cleaner, and not brake cleaner. I heard using brake cleaner could do more harm than good; I might be wrong, please clarify me sir.
If you keep it off of the rubber parts or don't let it sit for long it should be right, but carby cleaner itself can be bitey too, same deal. Successfully cleaned out my throttle and iacv and now car is running better.
I'm glad you used a standard Non-Chlorinated Brake Cleaner. MAFS and Throttle Body Cleaners are expensive marketing gimmickry and are essentially the same product, and most of the Toyota Dealerships Mechanic's just use Brake Cleaner! General Rule Of Thumb here...must evaporate reasonably fast and leave no residues!
Not exactly the same thing but very similar. I use brake cleaner to clean throttle bodies, valve cover gaskets, transmission solenoids, brush my teeth with it and use it on rashes. 😜
Hello, I did a test, I removed the rubber from the air filter, so I had access to the throttle body, I started up and gradually covered the air intake that enters the IAC valve, as the covers stretch to stop until when completely covered, the engine stops. But I can't find the fault, which is that it starts and as it warms up the rpm goes up to almost 2000 rpm. Then when driving on the street or highway, if you leave it in neutral, the rpm goes up to 2000 and goes down to 1000 until in a moment if I stop the car they go to 2000. A query, I made contact, I measured the female card of the IAC with tester and 12 volts to the positive (black cable) arrive at the connector, nothing to the ground cable and the other signal 0.14 volts and the signal 0.14 volts..., I also tell you that if I disconnect the connector from the IAC, the car runs and does the same problem. I am very concerned that it may be the ECU that may be sending an inappropriate voltage. thanks for your help
probably fucked with your limiter screw on the throttle body, at 3:26 you can clearly see it limiting the throttle assembly when he is just playing with it. (right angle metal off the side and the screw is above that, 10mm socket and i think 3mm alan key adjust it till your warm idle is about 700 rpm and cold idle is 1500) EDIT: i assume that the iacv will get no voltage due to MAF sensor seeing above idle airflow and retiring the iacv as it is revving or so it thinks.
open the throttle so you can see straight through, and spray carby cleaner into both IACV ports and let sit, then run, will turn the buildup into smog and a clean iacv, just did this today.

Sorry but you never want to spray brake cleaner were it may lead to plastic or rubber parts, it breaks down the plastic rubber molecules and breakdown. Theres o rings on the throttle body on the rod that spins the butterfly plate, rubber gasket between throttle body and intake manifold and intake manifold itself is plastic, use throytle body cleaner and on a towel and use goggles and gloves as all this stuff is bad for you.
