I know I visited Amsterdam because I wanted to gawk at the seediness rather than take part in it. If its gone or gone to a single super brothel I think I may not have visited.
Hey Hoog! I’ve been watching your videos since a long time now, and I just wanted to suggest adding subtitles/captions if possible! It would help understand the names and spellings of places, etc and also keep up with your speech because you do speak a bit too fast (understandably so as you try to put in a lot of information in each video). Just a thought that might help non-native English viewers like me understand better! A big fan of your editing and animations btw, keep up the amazing job!
Update from an Amsterdam resident: NDSM is no longer considerd. The plan has no support. The sexworkers already stated that they dont want to move from the wallen and stated many concerns, the police has stated they can't garantee safty, the surounding businesses stated they will oppose this plan and there are the NIMBY's. The parties in support on the city council stated they want to reconsider there support for the plan.
I'm not sure it's going to get resolved that easily honestly. It may not be as big of a building, but stadsdeeladvies doesn't immediately mean that the government won't make difficult decisions over the next yearish that will end up pissing people off.
@@hoogyoutube I know, there no final decision made at time of writing, but it is striking ater watching the live stream of expers advise how there was no one in favour of the current plan.
@@p1x3lman Yeah, it will change things. But I really do wonder what options they'll consider if they can't build a large, new building. Maybe it's two smaller ones? I'm speculating here, but I'm pretty sure the gemeente would prefer if they could just tax the shit out of flight tickets, but since that isn't really an option the only other options they have are like seriously considering entrance gates, or more regulations on alcohol and on weed. But I have no idea how it's going to look in the next few months.

hmm...i used to live and study in Amsterdam from 2008-2009 and lived around the Ij where there used to be an student dormitory complex for international students. I just remember that Amsterdam would be relatively peaceful until tourist season and then all the tourists would wreck everything with their puking and partying, haha. It was quite a shock because I was really naïve and didn't know the kind of reputation that Amsterdam had until I moved there.
Yeah, honestly, outside of tourist season / city-center, Amsterdam can be very peaceful and cozy. I’d go into old museums and cafes, chat with old people and go to farmer’s markets / second hand shops…it was quite nice! It’s very different outside of the tourist areas… There were a lot of very cool student art shows too. I miss those a lot~ mini pancakes and art… best combo ever
@@hay5813 While understandable with the kind of tourist Amsterdam attracts. Considering how much revenue tourists bring in and that many of them are decent normal people, this sentiment is quite stupid.
Hi sorry if my question is not the same subject but could you please give me some information about student dormitories in amsterdam because as far as I searched there is not like student dormitories in Netherlands there are just housing for student like apartments with shared rooms . Thank you for your time
Yeah I have to admit as a British person, we have a reputation in Amsterdam for being reckless and careless. I've seen it myself with other British people visiting Amsterdam and they are just disrespectful to the culture and litter.
I have never seen someone doing informative videos in this art style. This is unbelievably good and I would pay to watch it! The fact you did this all by yourself is stunning.

1:24 I mean, makes sense that buying the buildings related to crime in the red light district didn't make a significant change, you're just moving crime, not solving it
There is going to always be crime, however, you can minimize it by increasing security and disincentivizing people from doing the crime in the first place. However, the video rightfully mentions how already thin the security is.
@@ImKevin indeed, but you also forgot that crime can be pressured with laws, like regulations that increase the penalties for the more common crimes or the law that was exemplified in the video where it's planned to ban tourist from buying marihuana, all these regulations can disincentivize crime as you said, regardless of the thin security in Amsterdam
The architecture , the centralisation of the red light district. That place would be disgusting. Imagine the smell. God knows what would be going on in there.

I really love the style used for this video, its so informational and fun to watch. As a Dutchie who doesn't live in Amsterdam, I had no idea they were even thinking about this.
As someone who has lived smack-dab in the middle of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Central has a huge problem with an enormous amount of tourists emassing around a very small space. The government has for years been trying to pull trafick away from centrum to other places. Like with renaming the beach in Haarlmen to "Amsterdam Beach". Spreading out "points of interests" is in of itself a sound strategy and could go a long way to helping other areas of the town flourish with increased business and make centrum a more dignified place to live in for the locals. Tourists occupy the streets 24/7, all year round. The majority of people in centrum are by nature transient and it diminishes the local culture. It makes it harder to make long-term relationships and it becomes less attractive to have a family in the area. It is common for families to go on a long vacation during the summer to escape the absolute over-tourism. The thing is though is that prositution has never really been taken seriously by anyone historically, so we don't have a lot of knowledge of how to best organize it. It is basically a huge experiment to me. I'd be very interested to see how this development goes. The safety of the prositutes is my biggest concern however, at the end of the day. EDIT: I still occasionally recieve replies to this commments to this day, mostly outrage over the fact that prostitution exists. I can't change the minds of these people but I'm sorry that you have such arbitrary limits for human empathy. Prostitution has no qualities that deem it more or less inherently moral.
If you don't like the hustle why live there? This is also the reason why the coffee shops and prostitutes have to go. The red light district has been in it's current spot for hundreds of years. Now some well off people, without any connection to Amsterdam end up buying the properties in the area and try to sweep their backyard clean. Right across the city other not so well off Amsterdam locals have to deal with whatever might be coming to them. Hypocritical at best, but then again hypocrisy is to be expected from the Amsterdam city council and mayor.
Among Dutch sexuality scholars the idea is mostly dubbed the "prostitute prison", as centralising prostitution either forces prostitution underground when crime prevention is enforced, or creates an inescapable spiral of sex trafficking when not. It is the worst way of dealing with prostitution the Amsterdam government has ever tried.
@@muffinspuffinsEE That is an issue with all crimes and punishments. Most of it relies on trusting the state's judicial systems. You can't revert someone being in jail for N years more than you can for killing them. Exile is probably a better middleground.
Yup exactly this. A centralised location (with a centralised security system and enforcement) will disincentivise clients to come, which will impoverish the workers, which forces them to engage in more unmonitered (ie risky) work to make ends meet. This will only put workers in a more precarious position than the status quo.
I was so immersed in the visuals I had to rewatch some bits, and looking at the comments I'm glad other people have pointed it out, it's really well done!!! It makes me want to pick up Blender again haha Loved the script too! As someone who's probably been one of those tourists just looking around, I'm very curious about what their ultimate solution will be and how it will actually change things.
They might push through. Amsterdam is pretty realistic, but has been a bit slow adapting. The tourism itself has become the main issue, not just for 'weed and prostitutes'. The 'upgrades', buying out 'criminals', were also aimed at appealing to higher class tourism from Asia. But the residents, both low and high on the ladder of society, have become annoyed by the amount of tourism. The initial idea was to get rid of 'cheap tourists' like some of them British who were targeted with ads, mind you, to stay away from Amsterdam, after years of blind promotion - I ❤amsterdam. This is another step in trying the same - it has already sort of failed. Support, politically, has erroded. It isn't that realistic, will cost a lot and it is intimately connected to Amsterdam: tourists will be coming for years, just by reputation. Many people move from Amsterdam because the tourism drives up real estate prices - another reason to buy out 'criminals'. It's a good investment. But like said, it made little change. In short, this won't be concluded in a decade, or 2. Amsterdam has been like this for far too long, I suppose. The mass tourism is a bit novel, though.
I've been to Amsterdam twice and it's charm is in how beautiful the city is, how easy it is to wander around by walking or riding a bike. While going out at night the walks or bike rides from bar to bar are a breath of fresh air for those used to just staying at a bar all night. If the city centralizes the night life it will lose that charm of having the entire city center be like one huge party that takes place in such a beautiful city
What you cannot defeat join hands with Atleast this place would be under government tracking The same reason why Jews were kept in camps It's easier to track the things in there , they can restrict anything once they clean up the other areas and the only place for them is that building It's a master plan tbh
Can we all just step back for a sec and appreciate the QA of this masterpiece video? The level of details and carefully animated scenes are eyewateringly cinematic. This guy is shockingly underrated. Hope he can attract as many viewers as the RLD.
Stayed in Bos en Lommer a few weeks ago, I'm not sure what the locals think of the area, but honestly I found it much nicer than the centre, not because of its architecture or points of interest, but because there was far less stag/hen parties and far less tourists in general, I can't imagine what it must be like to live in the centre and constantly have all that going on around you.
Bos en Lommer has been gentrifying over the last 20 years and the turistification is slowly spreading out there. Lot of mixed feelings about it among A'dammers.

When I dabbled in politics the prostitution portfolio was given to me because nobody else wanted to touch that subject with a ten foot pole. It was steep learning curve, even in my 'open' Netherlands. Here are a few lesson I learned during that time - and why this Amsterdam plan will inevitably burn down and crash. The most important one; Legislating prostitution never works - Never. It never has and it never will. Once people steer into the taboo sphere of human society, laws always start to break down. Arguably the last time we came close to a working legal frame work for sex workers was in ancient Sumeria well over 4,000 years ago and that was more of a religion than anything else. The well intended legal protection of sex workers is often counterproductive. When prostitution became legal in the Netherlands sex workers suddenly had to jump through all kinds of (frankly bizarre) hoops. For many it was simply impossible to comply with all the rules and regulations that the national and local governments began to impose. Brothels closed left and right while their sex workers fell back into illegality. All sex work depends on anonymity. That arrangement protects both those buying and selling sex. Since that anonymity has gone it has become increasingly difficult for people in that industry to secure things like basic financial services from banks. (You know - those bulwarks of morality and integrity🤬). As consequence a lot of transactions are now settled in cash or other means - something which legalizing sex work was supposed to prevent in the first place! The old policy of 'gedogen' (not enforcing certain laws) worked pretty well by comparison. Everybody in the sex industry was on their best behavior because they were engaging in what were legally considered to be criminal practices. One mistake and the police could take them out with ease. Following a few glorious years in the spotlight, where Amsterdam can proudly showcase their sex towers to the world, this project will fail. It will fail because there is no anonymity for the people involved, no access to the necessary secondary services and there will be inevitably more crippling rules and regulations. And you know what is worse of all? I am convinced that many (if not most) of the Amsterdam policy makers are well aware that this won't work, that it can't work. But it will get rid of the red light district for them which will open up all kinds of profitable ventures to them.
We want the place to not be an 'isolated sex palace' but we also don't want tourists wandering through it? What? It sounds like they need to get they're goals in line before anything else.
@@yurisonovab3892 If the issue is to many on a specific location how is moving the location not the solution. Both main locations for the new sex tower are located in areas that are significantly more open and further removed from residential buildings.
As someone who lives on NDSM and needs to take the ferry almost every weekday to get to and from university, the ferries are already packed to the brim constantly. Building it here would make the terminals at both ends unbelievably crowded and a pain in the ass to get through
I don't get how "over tourism" would reduce business by scaring away actual customers. I feel like being able to join the masses of tourists just looking around and stealthily slipping away to "consume" would be much more comfortable for the customers than walking up to a designated isolated brothel tower, where anyone passing by can tell that you are one of these "perverts" from a mile away..
Tourists usually have bad manners and this causes problems for natives and other tourists. I'm from New Orleans and we hate tourists lol It's usually the same in most over hyped tourism spots. Also nobody in Amsterdam is going to think less of you for buying sex because half of their mothers are working women 😂
Over-tourism is scaring away customers from the red-light district... I mean, when you have an army of dirty drunk British all over those prostitutes, they become rather unappealing to the locals or those who are more sobber but more serious about paying for sex. But also no... you don't 'stealthly slipp away to consume' when there are dozens of peoples watching you per square meter. That's not how most people work. Most people are reserved, they want discretion and would slip in when nobody watches them. So the presence of all those tourist does push away a lot of such peoples. So then you are stuck with the drunk group of British that scream in the middle of the street that they want pussy, and then they try to bargain with you on price. There are also lots of businesses that have nothing to do with the red light district in the center of Amsterdam. All those drunk noisy men coming from the red district, really ruin it for those who just want enjoy a coffee in a coffee shop for example. Moreover, lots of the noisy tourists are foreigners, and especially British, while a considerable chunk of the actual customers of businesses in the area are locals, who are indeed pushed away from those areas by those tourists. You should really check how different Amsterdam is during and outside the tourist season. Tourists are a massive pain in the ass because they come to have fun, so they come with a high sense of entitlement and lack of respect for locals and local customs.
@@dh510 if you slip away you have to slip back. Plus my sense is that after dealing with this for generations, they might know what is and is not a problem with regard to Johns in these neighborhoods.
When I see how they want to push the RLD basically just away this reminds me of Zurich's drug scene and policy towards it during the 80s. First the Platzspitz (behind the trainstation) became a place where consumption was tolerated and thus it attracted many tourists. Then they closed the park but with a lack of help for people addicted just pushed them to the next best spot, 500m away at an old railway station and railway tracks which had been taken out of service.
This is why there is a push to put in place safe spaces for people to do drugs. Have some advisors on hand to help anyone who needs it, either by giving them alternatives to drugs/resources to quit, but also to test for any contamination of the f drug that I can't spell. As well as having narcan on hand to save lives. I don't expect to see something like that anytime soon in the US given that we can't even manage to properly roll out needle disposal bins in readily accessible locations where no one can see you dump them.
@@zebraloverbridget The ones who make trouble in the Red Light District are tourists, mostly British, but also from other countries. They only have a few days to 'do Amsterdam' and want to do it all. XTC, weed, mushrooms, alcohol and cocaine. And see what they cant see at home. Most of them young men who just escaped parental supervision... They gather at the 'windows', shout obscene words, make obscene gestures, even drop their pants and start jerking. They piss and vomit everywhere and get out off control, bother others, even drop in the canals. It is NOT the kind of customer the sex-industry wants, they are no consumers. Most of them are not addicts but have used too much and too many different things in a short time, this combination can even be deadly. Combine this with many tourists who are just curious. And pickpockets that abuse the overcrowded narrow streets, where everybody is bumping into another and jams occur where incidents take place, and you have created a hell hole. And I do respect social workers who try to prevent addiction and help those who are already, but in the RLD it's not a problem caused by locals.
Wasn’t a huge fan of the red light district, but it was novel and historic. Although it made me feel dirty, I was just passing through and it was a unique experience I’m glad I had. Creating an isolated, endless sex center would bar those who are a little curious, and insulates the consumers who probably DON’T need to be isolated with their vice
That was my thought. Placing it in a building or on a ship gives it more of a barrier to entry which I think is what makes the red light district so attractive. It is so easy to get too.

I lived in Amsterdam for a few years. I'm Australian and a chef. The fact is that brothels and coffee shops are all over the Netherlands not just in Amsterdam. And the red light district is something to be seen. A beautiful country full of history and shouldn't just be known for weed and hookers!
it tells you something about the tourists mostly ;) The US isn't just guns and fat people, New York is no Springfield. It'd be something though, just weed and hookers everywhere, with the occasional old-skool windmill and dude on clogs, with a tulip, of course.
The Netherlands also made dijken and those are now used in many other countries and the Netherlands also invented wiffi and Amsterdam used to be the richest city in the intire world so our history would most likely still stay impressive
When I was visiting Amsterdam with my brother and my parents last year, while walking through the city center, we took a turn and accidentally stumbled in the red light district like it was any other street there.
@@dutchman7623 I think the implication in leMolunk's post was that they don't feel like it SHOULD be just any other street. Not my opinion. I'm a big fan of the Netherlands as is. @@ex0stasis72 There are signs that you enter the red lights district, ignoring signs is never a good thing. Amsterdam complains about too many tourists, but it's their only source of income. City center lives on tourism, offices, manufacturing and trade all relocated to more suitable areas.

I live in Amsterdam and i remember being very upset with the idea. I hate that we're still making stuff like this. It makes a bad name for Amsterdam and we could spend our money WAYYY better. It feels dystopian. This is some Cyberpunk 2077 type shit.
I feel like this solution might make the problem worse than it is. If you take away only part of the rooms the rooms that remain will likely be more isolated and worse off.
It’s for sure going to get worse for them, they literally have the best real estate in the city, it’s only downhill from there, but that’s kind of the point, it’s gonna be reclaimed for the benefit of everyone else
So, my takeaway is that it's not an easy task to balance accessibility with safety AND privacy. You want enough people around as it reduces crime, but you don't want too many as it reduces trade. And if you place it far way out in the outskirts of the city, you will struggle with both. Yet at the same time, you can't build in the middle as it's already full. Wouldn't it be a better idea to expand the current red light districts as well as renovate them. Such districts will always be tourist hot spots, but if you make them bigger, you will dilute tourism, right? Make it slightly less busy without it becoming a sketchy alley.
The whole point behind this latest debacle of an idea by Halsema, is to reduce/remove the current red light district, so they can gentrify the area and earn more money. Turns out our 'green left' party is actually a bunch of neo-christians that love cutting down trees, who would've guessed.
Yeah seems like just embracing that being the thing there and designing other interesting things while keeping that area beautiful would just add to the allure.
Yeah you could just spread some of them to other streets within the downtown, and having all those streets roughly a ten-minute walk removed from each other, so the tourism spreads out.
yeah instead of trying to remove the red light district just embrace it and support it. Maybe instead of politicians saying what happens ask the sex workers what they would want from the government
Floating brothel sounds like the best idea imo, easier to expand if there is a need, can be moved and pretty secluded. Not a whole lot of people down by the water either, at least not when I was there.
Do gotta worry about the pollution it will invariably bring. Humans are already disgusting. I don't believe for a second they won't throw their used sex stuff overboard, regardless of the legality of it.

@@DeclanDG what is this dumb logic? Teaching, treating (medicine), constructing and a lot of other professions have been around for much more than prostitution. Since I don't live there, and anything I learn about this situation is undoubtedly filtered in some way, I have a few questions: 1) Why do they want to move the existing districts in the first place? 2) Do they realize that there will be a loss of tourism revenue? 3) Other than having a place for the sex-workers to move to, what is the benefit of the project?
1)Because the tourists are a menace to the locals. 2)Not exactly. Most of the tourist go to that area, and not other parts of Amsterdam. So the whole area is crowded. There is massive over-tourism, which also leads to loss in revenue. 3)Basically, not having them and their drunk clients in the center of the city.

Absolutely no way casual tourist clients, who might fancy a shag on a whim are going to train it down to the RAI, so those clients could be lost. This new district will attract only people who come here for this exclusively. Also, leaving a few doors still in De Wallen (even say, only 10) is not going to reduce the amount of tourists who visit. After all it's a very interesting district packed with bars and fascinating architecture, and it's right in the centre, they'll have to remove all that too if they really want to reduce tourism in this area.
That's exactly why the sex workers are against it. However you spin the story as a sex negative maire, the clientele is pinched off. Sex workers that choose to work in De Wallen (and a lot of them want to work especially there) want to work there because of the specific kind of clientele: impuls buyers, mostly tourists that want a quicky and are not too critical about the service. Sex workers with other kinds of clientele use other means, like working in a brothel, somewhere by advertising and making appointments by phone or in a RLD in a smaller town with mostly Dutch clientele.
This is playing right in to the hands of trafficers and groomers. Just like happened in Germany with the prostitution flats, where trafficked and under age worker stats skyrocketed

They're considering moving the red light district because it's recognized as a nuisance, so it doesn't make sense to denigrate homeowners as “NIMBYs” for opposing the construction of this red light district in their backyard.
If the worry is people accidentally entering the red light district and being offended wouldn't it be a lot easier to just put signs at the entrances to the area something like "You are now entering the red light district" written in several languages?
@@roosneus Who is complaining about "too much" tourism though? Amsterdam relies on tourism, and as more and more countries legalise or even just decriminalise marijuana, Amsterdam is going to need to attract tourism again..
Content is accurate as well, which makes the entire video top quality. And a neutral approach is also a good thing, many subjects do not have THE perfect solution. It makes discussion and evaluation possible.
The one thing I'm skeptical about the city government, is their ability to follow through on their promise of safety. The plan that wasn't mentioned here was a city government bordello overseen by the state in the name of safety for sex workers, but what you ended up with was a massive brothel, that was unsafe and shady. The thing is the government taking an disproportionate role in policing sex work can just as well lead to coercive situations. It seems like the visibility of this kind of sex work is mostly the problem, the need for upper class people to want to hide these activities away, will make the safety of the workers a second concern that can ultimately harm the people it supposedly seeks to protect.
Yeah the downtown of Amsterdam is prime real-estate (it can not be understated, there's a huge housing crisis in the entirety of the Netherlands) so this seems just like an attempt at gentrification.
Safety for sex workers was never the intention behind this plan, just like it was never the plan behind 'Project 1012', Amsterdam's earlier disastrous forced-buyout of brothels. The only motive seems to be using tax money to skyrocket property values of leftie property prospectors who form the elite within Groenlinks, which in turn is the absolute ruler on the Amsterdam city council. Those were also the driving force behind Project 1012, with lefties wanting cheap art spaces while existing lefties living there wanted higher property values and mostly driving the 'undesirables' (people of different ethnicity, tourists, sex workers) out of 'their' neighbourhood.
As a former sex worker I am very greatful for you talking about this and I think it's a great idea making a brothel a more multi-use space rather than pushing sex workers into the fringes. Thank you Hoog, your videos are incredible.

Four, the government commissioned the design, but the idea is that it would be private developers who would build it - not the government.

I just remember that Amsterdam would be relatively peaceful until tourist season and then all the tourists would wreck everything with their puking and partying, haha. That's pretty much only a city center problem, and large part of the reason why people in Amsterdam dislike tourists.

"Tourists occupy the streets 24/7, all year round" Sounds like New York city lol
@@blushdog as a Parisian, that also struck a chord ! Planning my 2024 Olympics escape plan already…
The safety of prostitute? Is to have no prostitution in the first place
@@Pfyzer You prefer rape? American i assume?
Among Dutch sexuality scholars the idea is mostly dubbed the "prostitute prison", as centralising prostitution either forces prostitution underground when crime prevention is enforced, or creates an inescapable spiral of sex trafficking when not. It is the worst way of dealing with prostitution the Amsterdam government has ever tried.

Yup exactly this. A centralised location (with a centralised security system and enforcement) will disincentivise clients to come, which will impoverish the workers, which forces them to engage in more unmonitered (ie risky) work to make ends meet. This will only put workers in a more precarious position than the status quo.

Loved the script too!
You should work there.

While going out at night the walks or bike rides from bar to bar are a breath of fresh air for those used to just staying at a bar all night.
De enige heldere reactie. Dank.
Wow this is actually a great summary of the issue. I respect that.
Getting rid of the red light district will improve the lives of everyone that actually lives in the city. Good on the mayor.

All of these problems just because men will not stop being degenerates.

I feel like being able to join the masses of tourists just looking around and stealthily slipping away to "consume" would be much more comfortable for the customers than walking up to a designated isolated brothel tower, where anyone passing by can tell that you are one of these "perverts" from a mile away..
true

7:48 I was on an old cruise ship's final sailing last year, it was from 1991 and the entire inside was covered in neon lights and mirrors and had a "city lights" theme, would have been very fitting for this had they chosen that option.
@@candy_heart7191 Ok but this one would likely be parked up somewhere, not moving around pointlessly.
That's the point
It’s for sure going to get worse for them, they literally have the best real estate in the city, it’s only downhill from there, but that’s kind of the point, it’s gonna be reclaimed for the benefit of everyone else
What a video!!! The visuals, the renders, the lighting- damn its spot on! Kudos!
I dont think tourism can be dilluted. Supply and demand forces form a system that self adjusts.
They literally had to build open public urinals where is a large concentration of British tourists, because lots of them would get drunk, and try to pee in the water channels, only to lose balance, fall in the water and drown. And now you want to move the red district on water XD ?

I always loved the diversity in Amsterdam. Supermarket, Familyhouse, Sexshop, church, coffeeshop, jewelery, sexworkerwindow, bakery all in the same street.

It really is an interesting urban planning problem. Really fascinating to see all the angles.
the visuals and editing on this video are gorgeous, great work to whoever made the visuals
I can't believe that they are making housing for the twitch streamers!
Shows how sad and messed up things have gotten on this planet. We are so far removed from who we really are, things have to change. No one should have to sell themselves for money.
@@justarandomcommenter570 So you're sister doing this job too . No one do this by thier own choice but by circumstances bro , govt should focus on upliftment of these workers and provide them job
@@abbasdodiya3079What do you been talking about? Nobody with a brain supports this industry but we shouldn't demonize the workers
@@abbasdodiya3079 there are plenty of people that do this job by their own choice, even if it likely is a minority. dont project like that, makes a strawman :l
Prostitution is literally the only job that has stood the test of time. The only profession that has been around for any longer is probably farming. Maybe learn some history next time?
@@DeclanDG what is this dumb logic? Teaching, treating (medicine), constructing and a lot of other professions have been around for much more than prostitution. Prostitution didn't even have a ground to exist untill the concept of marriage became conservative and restrictive. Look at any island tribe, they have religious leaders, teachers, hunters, farmers, healers etc. but they never have prostitutes because when you are free to fck with whoever that want you, you don't need to pay and beg for it.
If Hoog did an audible version of a text book I'd listen to it, this man has a majestic voice
Let’s appreciate the animation in this video is incredible.
Thank you Sean :)
The animation quality is crazy good.
Thank you Kira :)
Take my sub, the visuals and audio are amazing. Very informative and interesting as well. Keep going!
This is a really good breakdown of a debate i would be completely unaware of otherwise. And the graphics are just getting better and better!
Thanks Jem :)
I just wanted to say that I really like the visual style of your videos
Thank you Daniel
Reminder that allowing the sale of one’s body as a commodity to be consumed is not the win against capitalism you think it is.
This concept is terrifying. It could so easily be turned into a prison for the workers inside. When it's separate buildings, part of the city with no walls, there's more safety for the workers themselves.
The quality you put out is almost unmatched!
Thank you Thom :)
Thought I was watching a New York Times video. Top quality production and very informative! You’ve earned yourself another subscriber 😊

I live VERY close to the area in Zuid and this is the last thing I want.
Dude same
Why is zuid in almost every major dutch city the worst part?
I’m not Dutch, but I hope for y’all’s sake this doesn’t get built
Like, they built a football stadium near me and the traffic and crime became so bad that lots of people had to move
I can’t even imagine having a massive whorehouse being built near me… the effects would destroy the whole area for anyone who isn’t a sex-pest
So I guess good luck to you mate 🍀
"oh no an office sized building with people entering and leaving"
serioulsy, have it somewhere were people can get to and police can get to easily and its just fine
all the shit stuff is happening because its a trade you wond get away with anyways and the business needs to take illegal means of conflic solving because the legal ones arent avalable

Since I don't live there, and anything I learn about this situation is undoubtedly filtered in some way, I have a few questions:
1) Why do they want to move the existing districts in the first place?
2) Do they realize that there will be a loss of tourism revenue?
3) Other than having a place for the sex-workers to move to, what is the benefit of the project?
1)Because the tourists are a menace to the locals.
2)Not exactly. Most of the tourist go to that area, and not other parts of Amsterdam. So the whole area is crowded. There is massive over-tourism, which also leads to loss in revenue.
3)Basically, not having them and their drunk clients in the center of the city.
I propose we move the erotic center to Groningen as compensation for the earthquake damages
Worst idea ever
In that case, Groningen should be given a new nickname: the G-spot
@@PhilHug1 And there is the only argument i needed XD

Absolutely no way casual tourist clients, who might fancy a shag on a whim are going to train it down to the RAI, so those clients could be lost. This new district will attract only people who come here for this exclusively.
Also, leaving a few doors still in De Wallen (even say, only 10) is not going to reduce the amount of tourists who visit. After all it's a very interesting district packed with bars and fascinating architecture, and it's right in the centre, they'll have to remove all that too if they really want to reduce tourism in this area.
Yeah, that's that plan. So there wouldn't be anyone just wandering in sex district
@@m1nekji165 Amsterdam on its way to kill everything fun and unique about their city: 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️
That sounds like a great benefit. Let's cut down on the demand for prostitution and therefore reduce supply.
Wat een goede kwaliteit video/3d animatie! Echt goed gedaan! ❤
Dank je Jordan :)
The Brazil in São Paulo need a district like this urgently.
Building design reminds me very much of Bertrand Goldberg's Marina City in Chicago, where here, the residential balconies become a public walkway
Your work is incredible, i don't know how do you do your visuals, if it's 3d or something else but they're splendid
Most of it is all 3D at this point :)
This is playing right in to the hands of trafficers and groomers. Just like happened in Germany with the prostitution flats, where trafficked and under age worker stats skyrocketed
Blow it up and set the people free. No slavery allowed. 😒
that's the first thing that i thought
Thank you so much for having a brain, it seems like everyone in Europe is so brainwashed seeing it as a good thing, does nobody take trafficking seirously anymore ? dude, its the most disgusting human aciton that can be committed. Ffs.
Better regulated than ran by gangs, though prostitution is unfortunate no matter what.
Whoever made the visuals for this video needs a promotion
They're considering moving the red light district because it's recognized as a nuisance, so it doesn't make sense to denigrate homeowners as “NIMBYs” for opposing the construction of this red light district in their backyard.
I think the internet has made NIMBY immediately be associated as a derogatory term, but I really did not mean it that way.
Love the info and the production value of this. Great animations, really classy and stylised to the subject matter!
Dank je Tim :)
As a Britisher (adjacent) I am deeply ashamed at what we've done to your city. My apologies.
I don't know if I'm more impressed bu the story or by the animation.
Just the animation itself is already enough for 100k likes!!! omg
If the worry is people accidentally entering the red light district and being offended wouldn't it be a lot easier to just put signs at the entrances to the area something like "You are now entering the red light district" written in several languages?
The red lights are your heads up.
What is the actual problem that is being solved here?
Over tourism
@@roosneus Who is complaining about "too much" tourism though? Amsterdam relies on tourism, and as more and more countries legalise or even just decriminalise marijuana, Amsterdam is going to need to attract tourism again..
Watching Hoog for the informative content: ehh, sure?
Watching Hoog for the breathtaking minimal CGI & aesthetic design: YES
Content is accurate as well, which makes the entire video top quality.
And a neutral approach is also a good thing, many subjects do not have THE perfect solution.
It makes discussion and evaluation possible.
the background music is so chill
Prostitution inherently lies on violence, trafficking and violence
@@KarlSnarks Based.
That's just delightfully dystopian
As a former sex worker I am very greatful for you talking about this and I think it's a great idea making a brothel a more multi-use space rather than pushing sex workers into the fringes. Thank you Hoog, your videos are incredible.
