Didn't realize so much of the Prague metro is so new. Here in Chicago, all of our metro is over 100 years old and we've been trying to get a single extension done for 20 years.
it is massively more complicated to build subway/metro in PRG compared to Chicago. The hilly profile of the city plus need for archeological survey and protection when tunneling below the historic districts of PRG ..... and of course you can not do cheap shallow tunelling under the historic neighborhoods, you need to go deep to avoid 'archealogical issues' (to limit them to exits/entrances excavations). So it was completely different issue than Chicago (or even London and Paris that built their central lines mid -end 19th century at time when 'archaelogical issue' was not taken into account much) And of course you can not go overgroundi PRG like in Chicago to make the project cheaper (again, preservation of the history/heritage/views involved) It made construction relatively massively more expensive than in flat city without history beyond 1800 as Chiicago. Same reason there is very little of subway in central Rome till this day. It took about 70 years to start from the first proposal in PRG:)
Recently visited Prague, some of my favorite transit in the world. I love that the metro is fast, essentially an express service, but the trams are frequent, fast, and reliable enough to act as really convenient last mile connectors (at least in the core region). It feels like the best of both worlds between the speed of a lot of Asian and US metros, and the coverage of a lot of the older European ones
The T3 was made in Czechoslovakia, and exported to the Soviet union and its satellites, including the DPRK english.radio.cz/iconic-red-and-cream-prague-trams-get-new-lease-life-pyongyang-8596392

@@TheTramly My friend, I know these stories are from the DPRK.
Špatně znázorněna prodloužení na sídliště Barrandov. Dle videa je daná do oblasti Radotína.
