  • This Illinois Zone 5 Garden Tour video was shot on June 8, 2021. This month was full of roses! Our catmints are still in bloom and some of the early blooming flowering shrubs have taken a rest but others are just starting to wake up and put on a show. This is the third year for most of the perennials so they're looking much more lush and healthy.
We did our best to identify the plants in this video but if we have made any mistakes, we will revise in the next garden tour video.
Thank you for tuning in! Enjoy!

    Background Plant Info:
Most of the flowerbeds around the home were first created in the spring of 2018 so most of the shrubs were planted early in the spring and summer of 2018. However, a few were planted in the fall of 2018. This is their third year of summer growth.
A majority of the shrubs were planted from 1 gal. (7-8" / 18-20 cm / 4 L) or 2 gal. (8.5" / 22 cm / 7.5 L) size containers. Only the Annabelle hydrangeas in front of the home were planted from a 3 gal. size container. Most of the perennials were from 4.5" quarts containers and many were from seeds or have just self-seeded.
We did add a few more plants last fall 2020 - one "Black Lace" elderberry, two "Shining sensation" weigelas, and one ninebark "Little Devil".
This home is located outside of Chicago, Illinois and is considered to be in USDA zone 5b (Illinois Zone 5 Garden).
Music: "Pink Horizon" by Chris Haugen.

Thank you! The patio and pergola was a DIY project which took us almost 4 months to complete so we’re really glad all turned out well.

Thank you! We just planted the Black Lace elderberry last fall. It replaced a 10 year old viburnum opulous which was succumbing to some kind of disease so we had to remove it. We’ve also always wanted a Black Lace Elderberry so it worked out!

Camera movement is much too fast. Most shots are out of focus including the closeups which also were way too fast. Made my head swim which is sad cuz it looks like you have a nice garden. I did really like your labels but some of them were also out of focus. Not trying to be mean, just giving constructive criticism so you can improve and grow your channel. I couldn’t watch til the end… Sorry!
