      That sounds great! This rose is very vigorous and will cover the fence in no time. If you don’t trim it back as often as we do, it might also give you a second flush later in the year.

      @@GardenDoodles eh vista … strepitosa con coppe floreali rotonde e molto ricche tuttavia il colore x come appare dalle immagini sembra quasi un fuxia molto carico & brillante ✨ come punto di rosa e molto profondo … x intenderci a me come tipo di rosa piace molto il madreperla , oppure alcuni tendenti al corallo 🪸 oppure alla terracotta ( rosa antico ) mentre i rosa brillanti ✨ o + dark tipo fuxia non particolarmente. Comunque riconosco l impatto “ vitaminico “ che offrono all ambiente 🫶🏻

    2 different yrs i have planted these beautiful shrubs..full sun 70/80 degrees here in lower michigan....water at base of shrub and both have died they look dried out ..dead.... to expensive to keep paying $50.00 bucks just to die....but i do love them

      Interesting. This reminds us of not being able to plant any nine barks because they just shrivel up and die the 3x we tried. We have been very successful with Sunjoy Gold Pillar and Crimson Pygmy barberries so maybe those might work for you.

    Are they evergreen? How effective are they at smothering weeds.

    • @GardenDoodles
      @GardenDoodles 4 месяца назад

      In our zone 5, they seem to be evergreen with deep dark colors. They are cold hardy to zone 3 so in your zone they should definitely be evergreen. They are also very easy to take a stem and propagate like lemon coral sedum or creeping Jennys.

      Wow! You should visit Lilacia Park one day. The best time to visit is mid-May so it's coming up fast. We love them too but they can be so big and we only have limited space. We have a baby Beauty of Moscow (early bloomer) and three Bloomerangs (late bloomer) so far but every time we visit Lilacia Park, we want more!

      The flowers are always described as showy and fragrant but we really can't detect much of a scent. We've never brought any inside to really check but maybe will do it this year to see but outside in the cold, we haven't noticed much of a fragrance.

    Gorgeous rugosa! A smaller, more compact version of Hansa is' Moje Hammerberg'.

    • @GardenDoodles
      @GardenDoodles 11 месяцев назад

      Thank you. Good to know because we love Hansa but it keeps growing and expanding and we feel so bad having to cut it back so harshly to maintain some sort of order. Therese Bugnet, the rugosa next to it, is even larger!

    • @Thunderbird68-i2f
      @Thunderbird68-i2f 11 месяцев назад

      @@GardenDoodles I also have Therese Bugnet positioned in an area that benefits from its size. I agree Hansa is a large plant; cutting back its flowering wood to that extent diminishes its blooming capacity and overall grace. I prune Moje Hammerberg by 1/3 each spring and she reaches no more than 3.5ft by the end of my short growing season. New basal growth stays on the short side. Moje is my favourite rugosa - very fragrant!

    • @GardenDoodles
      @GardenDoodles 11 месяцев назад

      Interesting! We'll have to do more pruning late winter to keep them in check. We love both because they are so floriferous and fragrant but their runners are also popping up everywhere. We've given them to anyone who asks but there are soooo many! Do you have the same "issue"? It could just be related to our growing zone so just wondering.

    • @Thunderbird68-i2f
      @Thunderbird68-i2f 11 месяцев назад

      @@GardenDoodles I don't have that issue with Therese Bugnet. Moje Hammerberg does the rugosa thing and throws out 2-3 runners per season which I remove or give away. But these particular rose bushes are still young (3-4 years). I'm in zone 4/5 Canada (USDA zone 3/4) in an area that receives an average total of 60 hours freezing rain throughout winter. So my area is very hard on roses. I get long, very cold winters and short, very hot/humid summers. Climate, soil type and plant establishment are factors for sure. The length of your growing season makes all the difference. Trees and shrubs grow slower in areas with longer winters. Not sure how much pruning you do, but keep in mind that any large rugosa will do what it's programmed to do, regardless of how much people try to keep it down. Too much hacking against a plant's natural habit & inclination may weaken it over time. Hacking young canes down too hard will also signals the plant to produce more runners as a way to survive. You want to enjoy that young flowering wood. Old canes should be removed right from the base.

      That’s a beautiful rose! They’re very easy to grow so you should be fine. Yes, pinning them laterally if you have room will increase blooms all along the stems. Ours are now wrapped around an obelisk so we’ll see how floriferous she’ll be this year. We just added some Moo-Nure compost around her base this spring and found manure to be very beneficial for all our roses. Good luck with yours!
