I firmly believe that Lion King 2019 should have had more expressive facial features, but in this movie I think they're extremely out of place since this is supposed to be a more realistic story. In the Lion King it looked extremely unnatural to have a realistic lions singing but also look so dead pan while doing so since the emotion that I heard did not at all match the emotion that I saw.
Exactly. People expect too much. They worry too much about graphics when they should be looking at the story it tells! They got the detail down on Buck amazing! I could tell which one was Spitz right away by just remembering details from the book! I also think it was better to have in in CGI to capture the emotion of the animals. For the most part it looked really realistic
I can't imagine Disney making this movie. I remember reading the book as a kid and it being so upsetting and graphic with the dogs. I don't think Disney could do what the book did to me.
This trailer reminds me of Disney's animated The Fox and the Hound. Also, they are no stranger to taming source material for their films. However, this was produced by Fox.
This was a good movie. The animals being CG didn't take any away from the story. It made having to watch Buck being beat with a club, almost shot, and another dog whipped, a little easier because I could tell myself it wasn't a real dog. For that same reason, I'm glad this was just a loose adaptation rather than one that more closely follows the book; film adaptations rarely do that anyway. You want to see that kind of stuff happen to a real dog (and you shouldn't, but I guess if you're one of those "it's just an animal" people...), picture it in your head as you read the book.
I see a lot of people being hard on this film because Buck and all the other animals are CGI and while that’s understandable. Considering what been show jumping into a frozen lake, in a raft going down rapids, outrunning a avalanche and fighting a bear CGI was the right way to go at least in my opinion for the soul reason of this seems safer. Plus if anyone remembers the film from last year A Dog’s Way Home, they used a mixture of both CGI and a real dog, but here’s the thing you could tell when it was a real dog and when it was CGI like fighting the coyotes and being hit by the car, and as someone who’s read a Call Of The Wild (I highly recommend it) there’s a lot of action through out so this does seem to be the better choice and plus the CG doesn’t look at bad.
I think they did CGI because they want to test out all the new CGI equipments lol but it's pretty cool and sooo on the nose haha. I didn't even think of CGI until I got a close up view of the doggo
@@ddootzles Yeah that could be one of the reasons. I'm also pretty sure that training a dog is a lot more expensive than just animating one. I think the average movie goer doesn't really care either way but I just can't get over how unnatural the movement looks.

To all of those complaining about the CGI dog, guess what? All the mountains and snow landscapes are CGI, too, because the whole movie was shot in Los Angeles. It's also cheaper and takes less time to film. Although, Togo used a real dog and real locations and that is a very good movie.
Why do people hate this movie *for me ITS natural* because this film ia a heartwarming adventure that teaches US that nature can help US find who we really are so please don't hate this film because Ita PG not 13+ and this film inspired me and i think the cgi is great because were in 2020 not 2030 /2100 and if its if you think that cgi is easy to make well ur wrong this is one of the best cgi Ive ever seen and if you think ITS easy then make one your. Self of u have to hate and do you know snow buddies in total 5 dogs died on the making of the movie so Disney doesnt want dogs to die again in anymore making in there film so have a heart Will ya😭
I'm pretty sure it's possible to make a movie starring a dog in the main role and have no animals hurt in the making of the movie, as has been done countless times before. It's just easier to have a fake dog instead of a real dog for production reasons. With a fake dog you can get shots you wouldn't be able to get with a real dog.
Jack London was a one of kind. This story is a reflection of he. He said he learned to drink hard while in the Yukon. His life was hard and had a sad ending. Once thrown into jail back east, he said he saw things men did to others, that as a writer, could not find the words to express human cruelty to others.
This is one od my favourite books but this trailer makes it look so heartwarming but the book never felt like that to me :/ the cgi dog looks.... ok but his movements are lacking so big oof

One of my favorite childhood novels - allthough Jack London's theory that dogs can turn back into wolves if they have to fend for themselves in the wild, has been debunked for quite some time now. The ancestors of our dogs were an ancient species of wolves, who gave up hunting and started to follow human hunter-gatherers and lived from their discarded edible trash because that was far less dangerous than hunting and also a much more reliable food source. And those specimen who were friendlier than others and less alarmed by humans, had a better chance to survive and reproduce. This is called "Survival of the Friendliest". Humans might have started to help especially friendly proto-dogs from time to time to raise their puppies who may have become the first pets for human children. Eventually the ancient hunter-gatherers noticed that it had quite a few advantages for humans to have around these proto-dogs who over time became friendlier and friendlier. Humans started to care for them and eventually trained them for specific chores like carrying baggage, guarding their territory and of course helping with the hunt. All this led to the evolutionary selection towards a new species, whose members are attuned to the mind of humans like no other species on our planet. Even dogs who have become feral many generations ago still have this uncanny ability to tune into the mind of humans. Even the dingoes who have been brought from Southeast Asia to the Australian continent ca. 3500 - 4000 years ago and who have become feral a long time ago, can still be kept as pets, if the owners are willing to keep them according to their specific needs. It's far more difficult to have a modern wolf as a pet, even if it has been raised by humans as a puppy. The fictional canine hero of the novel (Buck) is a dog for whom this "Call Of The Wild" becomes stronger and stronger and eventually leads him away from humans and towards living fully feral with wolves in the Northamerican wilderness. According to Jack London Buck discovered his true nature. But this scenario is not realistic because modern dogs are genetically programmed to seek out the company of humans whom they understand much better than wolves. I have no idea if there are any documented cases of grown up dogs who have been successfully integrated into a wild wolf pack. I doubt it. Wolves and dogs do indeed mate now and then, and the resulting hybrid puppies will be integrated into the wolf pack. But I highly doubt that wolves would tolerate a dog who hasn't been raised by them as a member of their pack, since they don't even tolerate strange wolves. But even if it does happen in very rare cases it would not be a return of the dog to it's "true nature", since dogs have been domesticated thousands of years ago and it's their true nature to live with humans. Even dogs who have a long and heartbreaking history of having been mistreated by humans still have the desire to live with and be loved by humans, and they often can be rehomed successfully. Jack London's "Call Of The Wild" has a great appeal because it's such a romantic idea. But it isn't based on facts. However London's other novel with a canine hero - "White Fang" - has a plot which is based on a more viable scenario: The titular hero "White Fang", who is a wolf/dog hybrid, eventually finds a place in a loving human family, and he sires a litter of puppies with a dog who is also a member of the family. Interestingly this novel is less popular than "The Call Of The Wild". This could b because it's a bit less well written. But the idea that White Fang eventually chooses the live of a domestic dog as a beloved and loyal family pet is far less appealing to most readers. But it's more realistic.
I'm Italian, I read both novels as a kid, and I was sure white fang was by far the most popular of the two. White fang's finale was a huge let down back then, but I think I always considered Buck's journey to be more inspirational than realistic. I guess it wasn't intentional, but it's a fascinating metaphor for a 10-ish years old girl. I think most kids would agree though, and most people reads both books as kids. Btw, I've seen an abandoned dog trying to survive in the country side. It was the end of summer, the dog would sometimes enter our property to raid the vegetables garden. I never heard him let out a single sound, it creeped me out. My father told me it was probably trained as a hunting dog. I'll never forget that dog, I was rooting for him to pull a Buck, but in reality he wasn't going to survive the change of seasons.
@@sfex9 , I'm sure that "The Call Of The Wild" was meant to be inspirational and that the canine hero Buck can be seen as a metapher for us to shake off the trappings of modern civilization and follow our true nature. But I think Jack London really believed that dogs which were strong enough could live with wolves and survive in the wild. London didn't know back then that thousands of years of selective breeding had not only shaped the body but also the mind of dogs. Dogs want to live together with humans and their uncanny ability to understand humans is hardwired. Your story of the dog which tried to make a living without human help is interesting. But it wasn't able to be independent from human civilization since it fed itself by scavenging and raiding. It couldn't "pull a Buck". I think, though, that a dog which for some reason has lived together with wolves since it was very young could survive in the wilderness if it is integrated into the pack. But it would still have the innate desire to live with humans. Why was the ending of "White Fang" a huge let down for you? I haven't red the book and therefore I cannot judge. But White Fang's story is far more realistic than Buck's. I guess that Buck's story is more romantic and inspirational than White Fang's fate.️ It's interesting that the 1991 movie with Ethan Hawke changed the plot, and the human hero decides to live together with White Fang in a cabin in the wild.
It took 9 long days to find a beloved sled dog and within that time he clearly had reverted. He was a friendly dog, but all business as a lead dog. When I finally found him I will say that even looking at him caused him to dart back into the woods. I finally had to crouch on all fours on the ground without eye contact and so very slowly he came and lay down next to me. His husky lines are more primitive than a Lab and that is why I believe he reverted so quickly. He is quite an extraordinary dog. He had even developed that low weaving of his head as if focusing his eyes and being ready to react with his body like a wolf does if you have studied their movement. I was amazed at how short of a time it took to abruptly change his behavior toward humans. Most domestic dogs I believe would mostly wag their tail and show the happiness and gratitude that dogs are so famous for. I agree with your analysis and have thought how peculiar it is that a dog will excitedly kill small "prey" but they have no desire to eat what they have killed, once it no longer moves they lose interest. And coydogs rarely successfully procreate because if male they no longer possess the instinct to hunt and keep their full-coyote mate and pups fed. No studies known to me about viability of 2nd generation coydogs.
@@pullingtogether5262 , thanks for your answer and your interesting story of your lost sled dog! It's indeed remarkable that he started to become feral after just 9 days. But as you say, Huskies, Malamutes and Greenland sled dogs have a somewhat different genetic make up than Labbies, Retrievers or St. Bernhards (like Jack London's canine hero Buck). And it's established that North American breeders have bred their sled dogs with wolves now and then. This might explain the behavior of your dog when you found it. How did he do after you brought him home again? Was his behavior changed permanently?
*Anyone Who are judjing the movie due to the fact that the dog is CGI must read this* As a person Who read the book Which this movie depends on. I think I have an explanation: The book has many points where Buck's (The Dogs) life gets in danger. So, If they used an actual dog, some places in the story is so dangerous the real dog COULD HAVE DİED. Even If the dog would overcome all that, the Animal Proctectors would be REALLY MAD and could even sue them.
They could have used a real dog and shot in front of a green screen. We have gotten really good at rendering CG environments that look real. They also have a new technology where you film footage in front of giant, high resolution LED screens abd it looks like you were on location. Much of the Mandalorian was shot that way. I'm not a Luddite that hates CGI but making a realistic animal that we are familiar with is a lot harder than an alien that does not exist because we all have references for how a dog should look.
@@de5788 media got a hold of small snippets of footage they could manipulate to make it look like the dog was abused. But using CGI dogs will stop a lot of drama every time a dog appears in a movie

There's a few scenes reminiscent of the book but the book itself focuses on Buck's story and Ford's character is supposed to be around only for a short while. Also the tone of the book is much darker and features plenty of animal abuse, violence and even deaths. This is probably like how Disney usually takes darker fairy tales and makes them family friendly.

Indiana Jones V: The Journey North
Indiana Jones and Mutt (literally) go on a Yukon adventure.
This is the kind of movie where we need a non cgi, real dog
So basically Hon Solo and Chewbacca living in Canada together in a real life setting
cg setting, lol
The original is a personal favourite. A survival kit for me since childhood. It chiselled my spirit.
Don't mess with it!
I am Jack London's loyal fan😊
Let’s be honest: we are only watching this movie for Harrison Ford
I'm watching it for the CGI dogs
Harrison who? I'd do it for the doggo
I am watching this for dog
MorTimer Play Spoiler Alert! Halfway into the movie, Buck growls like a Wookiee. 😆
And dogs
Hollywood doesn't know how to train dogs anymore? The CGI is so on the nose..
I think the average movie goer doesn't really care either way but I just can't get over how unnatural the movement looks.
or they dont want to throw a dog into a frozen lake :o
@@seelfire4725 Well obviously all the more dangerous manouvers could be done in CGI and a lot more effort and time could be put into those animated scenes. It's also amazing how realistic stuff can be made using practical effects and some clever editing.
@@Herkkusibale thats true, i guess its just a diffrent attemp. disnyey used real dogs in their latest dog movie so yeah, both can be great. :)
To all of those complaining about the CGI dog, guess what? All the mountains and snow landscapes are CGI, too, because the whole movie was shot in Los Angeles. It's also cheaper and takes less time to film. Although, Togo used a real dog and real locations and that is a very good movie.
I kept waiting for the CGI dog to talk... might as well go full Disney with it.
Ik I was crying in the movie
I'm pretty sure it's possible to make a movie starring a dog in the main role and have no animals hurt in the making of the movie, as has been done countless times before. It's just easier to have a fake dog instead of a real dog for production reasons. With a fake dog you can get shots you wouldn't be able to get with a real dog.
I'm already bawling and I'm not even 10 seconds in, definitely worth going to the movies for
The first 10 seconds are just wideshots of the Yukon region?
2 reasons I would wanna watch this
1. Adorable dog and adventures
2. More of Harrison fords great quotes.
Next they’re going to start replacing humans with CGI
they already have been
James dean was just casted in an upcoming movie and that guy has been dead for AGES D:
Gemini Man did that.
They have. Cartoons and anime.
Well, they've already replaced stuntmen with robots, so who knows?
Tarkin in Rogue One
Jack London was a one of kind. This story is a reflection of he. He said he learned to drink hard while in the Yukon. His life was hard and had a sad ending. Once thrown into jail back east, he said he saw things men did to others, that as a writer, could not find the words to express human cruelty to others.
This is one od my favourite books but this trailer makes it look so heartwarming but the book never felt like that to me :/ the cgi dog looks.... ok but his movements are lacking so big oof
Like yeah--that book depressed the heck out of me. It was mostly about the dog being horrifically abused. And it ended sad. They must have really sanitized the story. And the cgi is so bad. It doesn't look real at all. They couldn't find one dog?
@@bladeofbattousai They most certainly removed everything like that, the book isn't like.. that child friendly and it looks like disney's too afraid to make it close to the scource. I prefer a real dog, likr maybe the incredible journey over this monstrosity, this is just so similar to that new lady and the tramp movie too like oh god. it's kinda sad.
@@zeewezel
I think they didn't want to use a real dog because they didn't want to risk a real dog getting hurt, injured, or killed during the movie.
Remember that controversy with A Dog's Purpose from 2017 and how people accused the creators of animal abuse because they pushed the dog in the water?
@@theatrepopcorn surprise surprise, who owns fox?
@@carsfan1995 Yeah and in the end the controversy was over nothing because they weren't abusing the dog, but they still use dogs for that lady and the tramp movie, as far as im aware some scenes are cgi because lip sync n stuff? im not sure I can't watct the movie so.
I can see how they're scared of it but it seems kinda dumb to make the movie so low budget thst the dog needs to look like that, I know im nitpicky but people will notice it and hate on it because it looks bad
At least with CGI no real dog is put in any dangerous situations. I think this looks great. Any movie where the dog is the protagonist is great in my book!
"He was a dog like no other" - yeah, because he was animated
It is a great heartbreaking movie. It doesn't matter if the dog is cgi or not!!!!
This rendition looks great, glad to see Harrison Ford post Star Wars.
I want to live my whole life with this dog.❤❤❤
*Disney:* makes singing lions show no facial expressions because it wouldn't be "realistic"
*Also Disney:* makes a realistic story with a CGI dog that is unrealistically expressive
Its animation, in many ways this is so much better work than Lion King's at animating emotions and stuff.
Even if Lion King should've gotten that
This looks good 👍
Such a great movie !! If you gus enjoyed it to, you can watch on my channel a video edit of this movie with the official music, I called it "Buck's Story" just here :

Good kicking finding a dog like that.
For those complaining about CGI: No animals were harmed in making of this movie. Simple.
*Anyone Who are judjing the movie due to the fact that the dog is CGI must read this*
As a person Who read the book Which this movie depends on. I think I have an explanation:
The book has many points where Buck's (The Dogs) life gets in danger.
Harrison Ford plus a dog..I'm sold

@@de5788 media got a hold of small snippets of footage they could manipulate to make it look like the dog was abused. But using CGI dogs will stop a lot of drama every time a dog appears in a movie

This literally is based off nothing from the book!
Alivia Spady no but just from the trailer I can see so many differences from the book
A movie being different than the book??? *mind blown* Thanks for opening my eyes to the world!
Based on this trailer alone this movie is based more on Balto than anything else.
Yeah, i can see the differences and i havent read the book in years.
But that wont mean the movie will be bad
