Thanks Pierre...Body and paint these days is stratospheric in price and shops taking a sincere interest in your happiness and satisfaction is almost non-existent...Be Aware and chose carefully. In my brief experience Mechanical soundness can be built on overtime...and easy-payments.. :) LOL!...but body work on your classic is something to be aware of it pitfalls, chasing after perfection has great cost...as for me I'm on my 3rd 240 D manual..great interior protected by tinted glass..and ok paint a good 10-15 footer, straight body...a strong runner able to daily drive 60 mile commute about 32 mpg over 70 mph..It can be done with compromise...but I also have another few cars to share the load. Know you car and have Real world expectations!

Have a neighbor that has a 83 380sl convertible that was told the rings are bad because it us smoking on start up and while its running. Grey not black smoke. Did to recheck plugs and scope to see cylinder walls but doesn't sound right and is thinking about selling it
Buying an old car can be tricky if you're a perfectionnist. If you really want one you have to pull the trigger and not expect to have a brand new car, it won't happen. I wanted a gas automatic W124 for a while (hard to find in France). They were either extremely expensive or rotten with disgusting smelly interiors. Ended up with a compromise after a year of research. Garaged kept, every door seal like new, interior in pristine condition, low mileage, extremely smooth engine and transmission, burns no oil but has a rusty jacking point and rear wheel arch and a dinged passenger wing.
See the car with a cold engine. Aka you drive to the location of the car vs it drive to you. Open the radiator cap and if you see brown coolant walk away.

They all run it's the body and interior that matters do your research how much is it worth when your done if you have to sell it
What do you recommend when looking at an R107 should people avoid the 1975 450 sl and the 1981-1983 380 SL also they say the 1973 450 sl is the most sought after reason being they come with the euro bumpers.

Important advice: Get a Pre Purchase Inspection by a qualified independent Mercedes Mechanic.
mechanicals are always better to deal with than cosmetics both in terms of money, time and satisfaction with the finished product.
Thought on a 1994 C220? It’s a eurospec 5 speed with 130k
