MUST DO MOD for the ImmersionRC PowerPlay DVR : 18650 cell case & wide strap fix - QUICK GUIDE

- If you own a PowerPlay DVR from ImmersionRC, this is a mod you should DEFINITELY do. The stock batteries are garbage and the battery size is too limiting for our FPV needs. Thankfully Haku3D's design, Hobbytrip's 3D prints and Panasonic's 18650 battery cells made my PowerPlay an actually useful device.
For my overview and thoughts on the PowerPlay DVR, watch this video (if you haven't already): • ImmersionRC Powerplay ...

Well finally I did it. After another quick drain of those smaller batteries I couldn't get to the printer quick enough.
Glad I did it. Now to try it out this week and see if it was worth the effort. Thanks for another awesome tutorial Mute. Stay tuned....
Definitely worth it, high capacity 18650 cells will make a night-and-day difference compared to the crappy stock ones!
Even on most of a full charge my PowerPlay unit powering my HDO2's results in constant low power beeps.
This upgrade looks like the answer to my problems! 😎 Thank you for the step by step!
You're welcome! The difference is night and day! The stock battery setup of the PowerPlay is completely useless, especially when using the original batteries...
Great job mate. As usual, only juicy information without unnecessary talk.
Thank you very much!
You star :D. I used this video to complete my upgrade this evening and you made it easy as 1-2-3.
I am happy you found it useful! :)
I love your videos, nothing but useful information. You mentioned why they couldnt just build it into the goggles, the Fatshark Scout goggles have this same DVR built in at $200. Its so strange they couldn't add this DVR to the HDO2's at $600
Thank you very much :) I suspect that they rushed the HDO2 to market a bit, to reduce the sales of another new set of goggles ;) Don't take my word for it, it is just my opinion.
I feel honoured, a video about my 3D designs, thanks muteFPV :) I'll link this video in my Thingiverse & instructions pages.
Your custom goggle strap looks huge, is it even wider than the 50mm width plate I designed for the PowerPLAY holder?
I can very easily modify the design to fit the width of your strap if necessary.
Happy to do so :) The strap is 2", the 50mm adapter fits perfectly fine! Thank you anyway!
Good to hear, for a moment I thought the text in the video said the 50mm adapter didn't fit.
I forgot to shoot the stock adapter next to the strap :P You are right, it can be confusing the way I showed it :)
I would like advice on which new radio to buy today. i have a tinyhack, but later i will buy a digital system (vr dji and whoop hd). I'm undecided whether to be on the safe side and therefore a frsky x9d pro or on a radiomaster tx16s or jumper t16 pro. the radiomaster looks tempting for the price, but I don't know if to trust it. also because around there are videos showing the radiomaster tx tsg8 model which is poorly assembled and lacks components compared to the t8sg jumper. others say that frsky is an obsolete radio, so it has been announced that updates will no longer be released about 3 months ago. so what to buy?
FrSky did a shitty move with the last updates and they "locked down" compatibility with some receivers that used to work previously. I personally switched from X9D Plus to the Jumper T26 Pro to do some videos for the channel but I ended up liking it a lot. Both the Jumper and Radiomaster should be more or less the same and they are great value for money. Quality wise FrSky is not amazing either, but the X9D does feel better than the T16.
So my print came today - and everything assembled according to plan -
But after putting some double sided foam on the inside of the battery cover - (which I probably didnt even need!) and trimming it until it fit - I accidentally broke the tab on the battery cover :(
FML.....this powerplay, including 3D prints and a small tip for the designer totals to over $170 :(
All because Fatshark HDO2's BUILT IN DVR SUCKS ASS
Exactly that! Sad to hear that the tab broke :(
Yikes, there is no balance capability built-in... It looks like this mod might add space for such a feature though. I am just not sold on 3D printing from my own experiences with my own printers.
I didn't print it myself but it is an easy design to print. There is also a slim case mod on Thingiverse with a battery lead so you can plug in externally any 2S pack you want.
@@muteFPV Thanks for the info! I was actually wondering about that.
You're welcome! I can't look for the slim case design right now but let me know if you can't find it
What's the battery life like now?
Night and day compared to the crappy stock battery cells. I am very happy with the Panasonic cells, they are cheap and I carry 2 sets with me which have lasted even my longest flight sessions.
a must mod, it aint hard and it will add considerably hours and hours of fpv experience than the puny 18500
Exactly, those 18500 cells are useless for the Powerplay...
IT IS niceeeeeeeee, IT IS very niceeeeeee.... Thank you :-)
You're welcome! :)
Does anyone have a used ImmersionRC PowerPlay for sale? I'm interested in buying one but it's out of stock everywhere.
Hello Francisco, try asking in the Immersion HUB on Facebook (if you haven't already). I am sure more eyes will see it there :)
@@muteFPV Thanks! Didn't know it existed. Are you aware of other immersion or fpv forums where I could also ask?
There is a ton on Facebook and I am barely active on social media. Are there any local groups you could start from?
@@muteFPV oh I see! Thanks for the tip, I'll look through FB. I'm located in Panama City, Panama and I haven't seen much of an interest for FPV drones out here, so I doubt there's even any fpv products out here.
I wish I could do this but it seems so confusing
It is a fairly easy mod and the battery life improvement is massive, let me know if you need any help
@@muteFPV I have the nessary batteries but not the 3D printer or sauthering machine. Do you know what type of services would do this for me?
It will be easy to find a local business / hobby shop / person to print the design for you, it is an easy print and should not cost much. As for the soldering iron, it is an absolutely necessary tool if you are into this hobby, so I would suggest that you get one (preferably with adjustable temperature) and begin practicing.
@@muteFPV if I buy all the necessary items could we FaceTime and you give me a step by step! :))) please hahaha god bless
Sorry I don't have the time for that. I believe you will find all the information that you will need in my video :)
Don't know why everyone else needs so many words! (I wish there was less talking heads, and more thinking brains. right now even more than ever!)
Thank you, I truly appreciate it :)
