- I love the IRC PowerPlay but I really wanted to have on board ambient audio recording rather than the quad audio. This is how i made this happen. All you need is some basic tools, solder and a Rush Racing ACG microphone.
Do this mod at your own risk.

I actually have a FLIR Boson hooked up to a Powerplay and I'm using it as an infrared camcorder. Thanks for this mod, now my IR camcorder has audio
Thanks a lot for the video. I did an external install instead using the fan connector. 😁👍👌
Good deal! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this mod. I just did it, works great and super easy to do. It'll be really useful to keep track of audible lap times when we're doing our race days.
I find it super useful for that and for tuning quads.
Pretty nice mod, dude! Great flying!!! 😃
Thanks.
Mic on the way! Thank you for the excellent how to! I fly micro and toothpicks 90 % of the time and want audio to go with the video.
Glad to help!
Got it installed today. 10 minutes on the bench. 1 minute to find the audio off in the rapid fire menu and off we go! Audio isn’t bad even though itsmounted internal. Guess you could say the audio matches the analog video :)
Yea that was the goal, super useful for tuning. Just talk to yourself while flying.
Great Flying brother!!!!.
👍😀👍
Exactly what I wanted on my Powerplay. I was wondering if same mod can be done on the Fatshark HDO dvr as well?
Yes it can be done to any VRX module. I have a video on how to do the mod here : ruclips.net/video/okLntFgkdOc/видео.html
nice job
That was extraordinary bro good work and what was that he was flying around in there?
It was the tinyhawk s on a 1s lipo.
Do you think it would sound better if was mounted external? I wonder what would be the highest quality small mic like this that I could use instead.
Yea the sound quality would be better with it mounted externally but i didn't want to modify the case. The best way would to have it internally mounted with a grill over the microphone.
Hey Tweet. Awesome Vid. I want to do this too but im just wondering how to activate the power at the jack plug. I only use the powerplay to record, and i power the goggles separately. Any ideas what i can do? maybe get a jack plug and blank the ends so its basically just a plug? I dont want to plug the full power/av cable in as i use a longer av lead so its not pulling etc
Plugging in a blank jack would work
@Sean Hughes thanks for the reply dude but I did manage to sort it out myself. For anyone reading, it does indeed work if you just buy a blank jack plug
Didn't sound muffled to me! I don't understand why they wouldn't have had audio from the get go! Nice mod, Bro! 😁 🤘
Was that the white tiny hawk or the tiny hawk S the 1 & 2S black one?
Thanks man. The black tinyhawk was the 1s-2s version. The one I was flying was the tinyhawk s on 1s.
@@TweetFPV So what's the straight dope on that one? I've heard mixed reviews! Amazon has several reviews that say negative stuff. They used the same crap image camera as the first one, the angle can't be changed, the VTX sucks, they didn't address the main issues with the first one at all...that kinda stuff. Please share your honest opinion. :)
TLDR: The emax tinyhawk is the best indoor quad of 2019 and 2018!
The tinyhawk s made a few improvements over the OG TH. The THs can take a 2s lipo which was something that everyone was screening for since the OG TH. honestly flying on 2s only makes sense flying outdoors. flying indoors 1s is amazing. Emax upped the motor kv on the s model which is kinda counter intuitive because the input power went up to 2s thus creating the need to have 2 completely separate profiles for 1s vs 2s input. They did fix the issue where the quad would just drop at
That's worked out really well. Would be a good idea for exchanging the mic in the runcam 5 as well. the original sounds like sh..
I plan on trying this out on a 5in Quad when the weather gets better around here.
Do I need to have a plug in the DC out for the mic to be powered?
From what I remember, yes but I don't have mine anymore to be sure.
I put a Pololu 5V Regulator in-line with the mic's power input... not sure if it makes a difference, but it makes me feel good inside ( www.pololu.com/product/2119 ). The PowerPlay only seems to record from "AudR", which is the first Ring after the Tip on the input plug. There was no signal when I connected the mic to the 2nd Ring "AudL". The audio from "AudR" is present on both channels of the recorded file.
Might sound random but do you know if the powerplay could be modded to accept stereo audio I.e. From AudL also? I have an application in mind that's not FPV related and it would be perfect if it could record in stereo
No, the audio file is in stereo but with an input of just right audio ends up being duplicated on both channels.
@@ThePinkBeachTowelExile @TweetFPV is definitely correct; verified here as well.
@@mistercohaagen ah thanks guys, so no traces on the PCB for left audio channel at all I guess?
I have connected a microphone to audR but I get only digital noise recorded. Is there a specific pinout?
