Bringing Green Spaces to California - Olympus Park

As part of a national initiative to bring high-quality parks and green spaces within a 10-minute walk of all Americans, the City of Encinitas worked closely with RRM Design Group and SYNLawn San Diego to develop a 3.1-acre neighborhood park offering first-rate amenities for the local community.
According to The Trust for Public Land, more than 100 million Americans do not have close access to the physical and mental benefits that parks provide. This is especially true for residents in urban areas where space for recreation is extremely limited or virtually nonexistent, which is why the mayor of the City of Encinitas took a pledge in 2017 to participate in the national initiative to provide more outdoor green spaces for her community.
Olympus Park brings the city one step closer to honoring her commitment. The park’s wide range of amenities provide citizens with endless opportunities to entertain themselves and offers outlets for an assortment of physical activities. The highlights of Olympus Park include a botanical garden designed in collaboration with the San Diego Botanic Garden, walking trails, a zipline, an exercise pad that allows visitors to practice yoga and other fitness classes, a small dog park, a bike pump track, public art elements and a custom play area featuring an adventure hill.
Jamie Neagle and her team of experts from SYNLawn San Diego collaborated with RRM Design Group to design a custom play area in the park for children of all ages to enjoy. 2,000 square feet of SYNLawn’s kid safe Play Platinum artificial playground grass was installed. As part of the design, SYNLawn San Diego had to factor in the slopes and undulations of the installation, including the adventure hill, so they used a pour-in-place safety course that allowed them to glue the turf to the cushion course directly.
Play Platinum is the safest artificial grass surface for kids of all ages, and it’s made with Super Yarn™ technology with heat reflective, anti-static, Sanitized®, and non-abrasive grass blades. Plus, it has a Class A fire rating to ensure the surfacing meets all standards for playground use.
