I love when musicians smile non stop while playing their instrument. It shows the joy and passion that goes into, and resides in what they do.
This instantly one of my favorite meinl vids. Everything about it is perfect. The mix, the drum tones and most importantly Forrest’s playing! Love you broski!❤️

It's hard to pin it down at first, but I think the reason Forrest will always be the percussive identity of Covet is his ability to understand and replicate Yvette's melodic lines in the rhythmical and dynamic content of his playstyle. Sure, any drummer with enough work and skill can play this music, even reproduce the very same line of notes Forrest produces- but to recapture his dynamic, almost "legato" flow around the kit is the kind of stuff it would take years to achieve.
It's this! JBurd is great, but she's a better version of their OG drummer Ben - a punk/indie drummer who can play their way around Yvette's unique feel/playstyle and weird time sigs. Forrest went steps further and complimented everything she plays with so much taste and feel for such complex, note heavy music. With Forrest & David, Covet was a jazz band that could still stand out on a bigger 'rock' stage. With JBurd and Brandon they're a guitar hero band with Yvette's skills and songwriting front and center. Both good things, just way different from each other.
Dude is a master of ghost notes on the snare. Always fit so well with Covet's music.
This is the best cymbal pairing I have heard from Meinl. The sound is so well meshed with the drums and music, its a perfect match.

@@artisupitis2147 It is the sound of the cymbals and also the way the drummer plays them. Also the way the engineer records and mixes them and we perceive them. It is a great job by everyone involved, and the cymbals sound excellent together.

@@rossgras I agree, especially with the way the drummer plays/sticks used ect but as matey said, the hats are 2 top hats from different lines, the drummer is the guy responsible for creating the sound palette of the cymbals in relation to the song
Also everyone has their own natural sound/dynamic of playing, if the camera man played this track, perhaps the sound wouldn't be so well meshed between the drums and music. No matter how incredible meinl sound engineers are
Man got to love Forrest's drum face. You can see the "Yvette" effect all over this guy. A bit sad that he's not a part of Covet anymore but a few tears roll down my face seeing how he's still playing drums still with a lot of passion and happiness. I'm cheering for him and @MEINL Cymbals I would love to see more from Forrest Rice. This guy is such a beast and I hope you don't mind me adding this onto my favorite drums playlist ;)

@@RITKO There is a good chance the "Yvette" effect is not a real thing, it's a word I'm coining here. I could be short sided here. as well but whenever I see a lot live performances and music video I frequently see Yvette smiling while she plays guitar. I'm speculating with Covet she was the first to do it and it's her way that she's feeling and enjoying the music. I could be seeing it wrong but if my speculations are correct seeing Forrest's drum face could be reflective of this effect. This is what I mean by the "Yvette" effect lol

I miss his tenure with Covet, his personality and drum grooves really fit well under Yvette's riff. Not say that Jessica isn't doing great, because she is. But man, Forrest with Covet was just something else. 😩

Either you have an Audio Technica endorsement or your engineers love them (for good reason). Either way, you should provide a mic list in the description in addition to the drum equipment. Maybe negotiate to get some $$ from the mic companies for the gear plug. Meinl TY Channel has some of THE BEST drum recordings. My ears are always happy.
Unfortunately part of the reason I'm sure they don't is the red banded AT mics they use on the toms have been discontinued for years, and the replacements sound like absolute trash comparatively. They're ATM25s, if you wanna pay insane prices on secondary markets.

@@juanparrasantos2583 Matt Gartska? what type of drummer would you define him as? in the Literal sense, an "insert genre" drummer would do that as their proffesion/job/band, but that doesnt speak to the knowledge, influences and other styles of drumming they are into, so of course a metal drummer could do anything. are you implying that "Metal Drummers" are singlet wearing, inked-up buff guys that have a mohawk and every hit sounds like a thundercrack going off with 0 dynamic control? haha
