- Part 1 of Dennis Chambers' performance @ Guitar Center's 2011 Drum Off Grand Finals on January 14th, 2012 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles featuring Graffiti with Haakon Graf on keys, U-Nam on guitar, and Gary Grainger on bass.
Chops aside, his beat placement and use of space is really what impresses me. Hats off to Dennis Chambers on this one
I have never heard anything played this smoothly before in any live performances that I have seen and heard. Professionals at the top of their "A" games. I salute each one of these guys.

Nobody has stick bounce like Dennis. His touch is magic. His funk, from somewhere hard to find.
So many facets to Dennis' playing. This one is a laid back approach which grooves like hell!
From when I first started drumming 20 years ago, I always thought Dennis is the Ultimate drummer. Still do to this day. THE GREATEST.
The key here is to notice how the other players are on time. He's playing to their groove. But yeah,.he pushes that groove by being immaculate and effortless. Wonderful music,.thank you Dennis. You're my favorite living drummer.

I 1st saw Dennis Chambers back in the 80's when he was with Parliament-Funkadelic. I have been a fan all thru the years.
for those of you who don't know but are wondering. the bass player is gary grainger, he and Dennis chambers played together for the first time in the mid 80's with john scofield. the album is blue matter, and loud jazz. might want to check it out

This is my favourite drummer of all time!
Dennis for me - everything! The first time I heard it on the record with jazz festival in Munster, afraid to make a mistake somewhere in 1987. And already in 1997, listened and looked him in Moscow at a concert during the festival Zildjian days. It was just amazing !! Let Dennis knows his revered and admired for the former "Iron Curtain" ;0)))

You can just tell Gary’s strings were changed that same day, if not the day before... at the very max the same week😄such a metallic sound but yet still sounds gorgeous. This is coming from a friend of his😄

You are so welcome to your opinion, but there is a reason why Dennis is one of the best, and one of the best teachers out there. Most of those drummers who I'd guess you think dont suck, wouldn't last ten seconds in a drum duel with this man, and there are very few who can reach this level of stone cold, level headed groove. Obviously you are NOT a drummer. Because what Dennis is doing here? Is what drumming is all about. And this is the easiest explanation of his enormous discography.

I agree, I used a double pedal a lot back in the 90's because it was the cool thing to do, just to realize I was over-using it. I switched to a single pedal and my doubles and triplets got a lot tighter, but I wanted that extra option of a double pedal, so this year I bought one, I rarely use it but it's always there for flavor.

Drumming isn't just about soloing...its about being able to keep a beat and making the crowd feel the rhythm.
Just look how much fun he and Gary are having! It's the joy of the groove, and there's nothing boring about it. Really neat hearing him keep such excellent time with such musicality; the interplay between the musicians was wonderful to watch. I'd rather see that than ostentatious, showy performance any time.
