This NEVER gets old.
NEVER. I come back about once a year for the power.
Totally
It’s been 84 years.
You ain’t wrong.
This guy.... What a player. Hard hitter, rhythmic and musical. Love the sound.
this guy is a sensation, dont forget that he can sing, play guitar and keys!
So like Dave Grohl on crack
@@alexvyriotes4219 exactly
don't forget bass too!
Ilan is a monster. I’ve been watching him a lot and he keeps impressing me. He comes from Bonham and Stewart Copeland. His left hand is incredible and his open hand playing is really versatile. He’s got some great lessons here on RUclips, one on Copelands hihat work.
Don't ever disrespect copeland like that dude!Ilan is Not even on the same level!
@@jamesmotter1221How is that disrespectful???
No matter how many drum videos I watch, I always make my way back to this one.
he's such a heavy hitter .... phenomenal drummer
I'v been watching drummers play for over 50 years. This SOB is damn good kids. That was "sick"
Nice choice Trent.
I dare any drummer to repeat that. Such an innovative guy. Hats of Ilan.
I'm sure Danny from tool could and much more
no wonder the drums on Angels & Airwaves ‘The Dream Walker’ are solid. cause of this freakin guy. what a beast.
Awesome drumming, awesome hair.
Such a refreshing change from the sea of tricksy 'pocket-gospel' drummers. A nice bit of meat and veg' drummimg.
Very well said... I can't agree more.
Well said indeed. There are 2 things I grew tired of - double pedal metalcore overplayers and gospel chops flashers. Ilan shows HOW it's done. And yes, don't tell me "there are many ways to play an instrument, blablabla", I well know that. But these 2 particular categories grew in numbers and I'm sick of it
He's absolutely right
Thats right ,i dont get this gosspel thing, they all sound the same
Yall are all drunk 😂😂
john bonham is giving this guy a thumbs up in heaven..
Jesssus, I was thinking the same! He has some of Bonzo's pattern in his blood.
keechmabreeks Ilan is ambidextrous. He told me in a tweet when I asked him. I play open handed so was curious. He’s a monster. Top chap too.
Bonzo would have made that hi hat sound with his foot, not a electronic drum Loop.
Mike Lail...but he hasn’t written this drum part with real 32 notes. He does play that hi hat style too. Check out his other videos. Saw him live with NIN last June. He is insanely good. Regardless of using Maschine.
@@jamisbillson4872 He's a amazing drummer. Just drop the hi hat loop.
when i heard that josh freese was bowing out of nine inch nails i was absolutely terrified for nine inch nails, as josh freese is a monster, and is someone who i've always wanted to see in the band and finally got to. i was worried when they first announced ilan at first, but HOLY SHIIIIIIIT did trent and the boys hit the jackpot. ilan is easily one of the best drummers on the planet. the ONLY GUY who could come in after a monster like josh freese.
Trent Reznor just announced new Nine Inch Nails lineup and this guy is in it. Congrats!!
This is one of the most impressive solos I've seen for a long time
This is so powerful man. How he starts alone he shows he is serious.
beast
I have been following drummers for 55 years, and I must say, this is one of my all-time favourite drum solos! Refreshingly, it's a million miles away from the usual suspects, such as the gospel cats who often sound the same. This solo has power, depth, meat, finesse, and uniqueness. Ilan is one of a kind!
Some of the best drumming I have ever seen...
Such a monster player, that fill at 1:56 is awesome!!
For such a little guy playing big drums, he owns it. Incredible player.
Yeah i was like damn hes only 5'7 haha
This is mental. And he never leaves the click. What a monster talent
The fact that he switches between playing open handed on the hats, and right hand lead on the ride is incredible.
The last 30 seconds was mind melting!
A world class Drummer, truly is one of this generations best and being only the age of 26 he has so much room to spread, In my opinion he truly has potential to be the this generations John Bonham.
He's a better drummer than bonham. John was great for his time but drummers in this generation are far better than older ones with a few exceptions of course. Drumming education has come a long way so have drums.
Drum A
ahem....lars ulrich.
nnathangrahamm. In my opinion he's even better than bonham the sad thing is that he'll never get that fame because he doesn't play in a band as famous as zeppelin
björn michels hope delonge can make him famous
Filippo Motta true. But zeppelin was just associated with bonham. NIN has had more than one drummer and the project was started when rubin was born. Also nowadays rock bands are kinda out of fashion, sadly
Dude is a straight-up phenom.
I love his ways around this 4,4 time!! Fresh, and I am glad it sounds so unique in this era of everyone young drummer sounding the same!!!
Beautiful playing.
i love when drummers play with feeling like this
Exactly! someone said this to him these days on twitter and he was really thankful. i think it's such a great compliment
That snare sound is just perfect!!
I'll be right back. Off to go sell my drumset.
yeah man i'l help you up
gusde stpn
Awesome
+DANTVSVERGIL let s go fishing all together
soulander13
Yaaay fishing!!
Yeah putting mine up as well. Think I'm gonna just take more naps instead.
I love this guy! He plays the drums so good.
America has such great people to offer
Loving the swing, too. Dude has an intense love for the art of drumming. His knowledge (in interviews) is almost as impressive as his playing. Legit
I remember watching this when it came out and everyone was knocking on this guy for using the drum machine and I knew as a drummer that thing didn’t make a difference at all to his awesome talent. All it did was prove he could play these sick beats and keep them in time and not cheat. Most people thought he was in the drum contest and should have won it. But he was a guest performer. If he was in the contest he would have won 1st 2nd and 3rd place with those hands of his. Rumor has it they had to stop the contest because he was gonna mow any competitor down and require the past years winners to turn in their awards for his mantle. This guy is the real deal.
Holy shit, this guy is amazing!!
I always find myself coming back to this video every few weeks
The individual parts he's playing are impressive enough, but to keep up the precision and intensity for that long and that consistently is simply astounding
Dat Snare sound.
Do you know what snare drum he's using?
Matt Larghi Actually, at that time, he was using OCDP.
Why is everybody bitchin about this video? He killed it
+José Luis Suárez hells ya!!!
the most creative drummer i've seen in those drum off videos. 99% percent of the new young players today play exactly the same, like the gospel chops guys - all of them are awesome, but they all sound the same. this guy has a lot more going on!!
His left handed lead gives him a savage approach to playing.
we've got a lot of insane drummers coming up in the last 20 years but man this guy is a total drum enthusiast!!
And that's why he's playing with NIN among others. Ilan is a punishingly badass drummer, but it's not just chops, it's the whole package. The guy is just ferocious. Solos with kickass beats, killer swing and total musicality.
Love it, this is like Jon Bonham transported into the 21st century
LOVE watching Ilan play! What a great musician
That's the way I always wanted to sound like as a drummer. I admire your chops, just fantastic.
I dont like the purist opinion that drummers should just play drums. Electronic integration in an instrumental performance is underrated by so many people. There's nothing like listening to someone with talent just have at their instrument, but it takes a certain kind of mindset to understand textures and rhythms and live programming. And to play in time with all that is harder than most people imagine. Ive played with drummers who were talented in their own right but just could not keep in time with patches. Some would argue that isn't such a bad thing, but a drummer who can integrate as opposed to just have his bandmates follow his timing is a good drummer.
What kind of destructive comment is that? The mockery, the hatred. He has a different opinion, but I cannot see it in me the need to say those things to anyone.
Yeah, his life is almost over.. In 5 short years from now, he'll be 70 yrs old.. 70...!!! lol lol
+Jason ,,,a capitol douchbag eh
Carl Palmer
@@sarahwalker377 Bill Bruford :)
Great solo! His "Bonham" was showing.
How many times have I watched this now..? Phenomenal drummer.
Watching this guy live is amazing!
The automated beat is similar to the beat on NIN's track Burn. :P
EthanE3Eves you're looking at nin's drummer...
This dude is phenominal. He's like Bonham/Grohl/ and Royster Jr. all rolled into one in this solo. What a fucking pocket.
And to think Portnoy was at the same show...
This is magical, the guy is in such a trance
His ability to play both traditional and open hand drumming is amazing. Sensational timing and power. He is Buddy Rich meets beast mode.
Drummer for Trent Reznor. I've seen him live 3x and he's the dude everyone talks about after a show.
Yeah! I found this video again....
This is a hugely energetic and creative performance.
Wow such a talented guy. I just watched his "the new regime" band live rehearsals of 2011. Amazing.
Oh, and unbelievable speed and power, I love this video!
I learned what I considered to be the two most exciting and impressive parts 2:19 - 2:40 and 3:39 - 3:50 and they weren't as difficult as I thought they'd be. Its the contrast to what comes before and the speed and ferocity with which he plays. He's playing top speed or pretty near top speed. He hits a stick at 3:49 on those triplets rolls from the first tom, snare, floor tom and two on the bass drum.
He's my favorite drummer since .....I don't know. There's some great performances in songs but all around drumming like ilan? Who also sings great and plays guitar and bass and writes good songs. Fuck yeah!! A+
He's amazing!!!!
Amazing performance !!
So clean and clear, so defined, so fast, I LOVE IT! :D
I'm so glad this dude played all the drums on the new Paramore album.
I finally get it - 3.40: "Snare (left hand)+RL оn rack tom + RL on floor tom + KICK" He repeat it 2 times and then play 2 times this: R (snare) + L (rack tom) +R (floor tom) + KICK
I find myself watching 👀 this solo over and over again best solo i have ever seen period
Every year I come here to appreciate this masterpiece! ❤️🔥🤘🏼❤️🔥
Ilan Rubin and Jon Theodore destroy all.
Couldn't agree more my friend X
YEEEEEP
fo sho
Daaaamn, couldn't be more spot on, aye!!!
Page and Plant shoulda got this guy for that Zep reunion show years back.
At that very moment, there was no one else in the universe who owned the time more than him.
Was lucky enough to see The New Regime live. Ilan is a beast.
Who are the 40 morons who disliked this? He is an incredible drummer.
They all think Rikki Rocket from Poison is the greatest ever....
I'm here, because ShaunTrack, "Shaun only for his friends"

Que agradable sujeto .jpg
Jajaja exactooooo xD
Those hats sound soooo good when he hits them open with the kick and then chokes them. Man, the gear is top notch, sure, but it's also the mastering of fundamentals and pure talent. Ilan is the entire package!
Absolutely insane 😍
I can tell that bonham is the reason this kid got into drumming. it shows
Santiago Luna There's a video on here somewhere where he explains this as well. Spot on, and a good hero to have.
He just came out with a video on reverb on how to play “The Crunge”. Check it out!
He even chokes up on his sticks like Bonham did.
That was stunning to the point where the only thing I can come up with makes me sound like a 12-year-old - _That was TOTALLY BADASS!!_
I think this was the most unique and well put together feature so far in the GCDO
This is by far the best ocdp kit I've heard sounds well nice
He's like a mix of a caveman and a neuroscientist.
I really like this kid a lot. His work with NIN was pretty amazing. Anyone see that Vevo concert in LA?
OMGoodness, he's unbelievable!! Loved it!!!!
Incredible drummer!
Hello, ghostnotes.

2 Beasts in 21st Century: Ilan Rubin & Aric Importa
Improta
2020 almost 2021 and I'm here enjoying one of my top 3 drummers like the first time.
Absolute animal on the drums! Incredible!
The sipirit of Bonzo is alive in this one
I want to be inside his drum kit
One of my fav solos, and I miss this competition
Dude is a beast!
3:40 wow
Hes the drummer for NIN now!
Ilan Rubin is rock music! Phenomenal drummer, amazing on electric, killer keys, and melt your face vocals. This guy is pure, unadulterated ROCK!!!
Best addition love them for decades since first album 😃 and here we are, love Ilan absolutely 💕
