SU playing that Lenny Kravitz brings back memories. I was a freshman at SU when that song was hot. Coming from Chicago, I had never seen a HBCU band before. I went to my very first game and Southern played “It Ain’t Over Til’ it’s Over” and I literally cried. That was 30 years ago this year. It was the dopest musical experience I’d ever had up until that point. They will forever be the BADDEST band in the land (next to Earth, Wind, and Fire). #Jag4Life💙💛

The swagger that FAMU once had is now a thing of the past. This is not the Marching 100 that I remember growing up in the late 1980's/early 1990s. Nothing wrong with tradition but if they coming like this into the SWAC next year these bands are gonna give them a rude awakening. Just my opinion.

I agree Earl two different styles if FAMU was really aggressive Southern would probably have a problem FAMU is kind of passive-aggressive seems to me in there song selection.
@@nathanielcapernicus3409 Their band just has a different culture. SU has perfected the whole notion of battling other bands with sheer power. FAMU, like a few other bands, aren't as focused on stuff like that. PV is similar to FAMU in that area, thanks to FAMU alumni who took over PV in the late 70s and made them what they are today. Their old BD Prof. Edwards was all about putting on a good show and having a band full of musicians who played like musicians. It wasn't always about battling another band. PV still has that mindset today under Zachery (who went to SU ironically before going to Norfolk State and Indiana University). Outsiders like to group all HBCU bands together and say that they're all the same just "play loud with bad tone", but that's just simply not the case. Bands like FAMU, PV and several others are proof of that.

Its funny to see people in the comments upset that SU was being disrespectful. Back in the early 2000 that was normal and expected for a band to disrespect another band in the stands and other band would give it right back. Two of the BEST at what they do. I keep seeing people hate on the other bands. "Nobody wanna hear Orchestra Music", "They only play Marches, play some Marching Band music" (It's LITERALLY called MARCHES....for MARCHING BAND, smh), or "They only BLOW real loud. It takes no skill to blow loud." (Then why is it so hard for people to duplicate it and maintain that sound for as long?) Stop hating, BOTH programs have STRONG followings and people who LOVE their sound and traditions. And more importantly, they are both HBCUS!!!! Show some damn love. This only adds variety to the SWAC and truth be told, this give people more match-ups that they want to see.

Rebecca Bowles not too fast...SU show wasn’t great. SU has become nothing more than just a stands band. Their shows lack energy and drive. We all thought the band was going to take off when Haynes became director because he was a great arranger. But the band not only lost him specifically working on some of their arrangements, but his shows were lack luster compared to when Jackson was the director. This new director rarely does a second line, and there’s nothing exciting about his shows. And let’s not talk about the look of his Dolls.
Imma boom fam and as much as this hurts to say SU for the win... much cleaner and clearer. While that performance by FAMU is excellent for MEAC, not going to cut it in the SWAC... Real talk just search the battles between any swac band even MVSU or Alcorn be coming with it...World famed, ocean of soul and many others such as PVAM and ASU. It’s going to be fun for all those involved in any event, just don’t book the Boom for homecoming FAMU...I love the hbcu exp and can’t wait...
Yhea cause they Boom but it’s like turning your stock radio all the way up on full bass it distorts the sound and makes it sound muffles/muddy. But they are loud just not clean/clear.
This begins me back to Barringer High marching band tearing shi... up in Brick City (Newark, NJ). I love the way Southern brought it to FAMU. The same way our drum line brought it to West Wide, Vailsburg, Shabazz, and Central. Damn, I would do ANYTHING to go back to those days.
I just noticed this.🤔 When they remodeled Bragg, why wasn't the 100 given their own section in the stands for easy entrance and exit.😬 People on all sides but the top. Most fans come to the game for the band anyway.
Ok so im from Florida bornn and raised, so of course im a FAMU fan. But my honest opinion is Southern out played FAMU. Its like a car with custom speakers and a car with a system put in sum 12s or 15s and highs. Both sounded good. The field show was about even for me. But Southern for the over all win.
No, not really.... it wasn't even close....you need to be able to show sound and good judgments.....I hope you make better LIFE decisions and judgments. Both bands are good but the FAMU show was more entertaining.

Just curious. Can somebody from FAMU tell me what the punishment is for dropping that leg during Slow One rehearsals? Or is it secret like frat shit? That maneuver looks grueling as hell. My ass probably would’ve been running twenty miles around a track for screwing it up.

Am I missing something? Famu did more on the field than SU and far as formations and dance moves plus sounded way clearer. People just stuck on the “disrespect” (which I think was bad timing) like were they not supposed to play for there players? I think not, Famu just so happen to still be on the field. Also stuck on the fact that they are LOUD but I didn’t see anything special besides the drum major landing on his hat and they only have one. Someone make it make it sense to me. So to be in the swac Famu needs to 2x the horn section and blow hard, got it, just be loud.

I didn't go to Southern either OR play drums but I remember when. 😆😆 This how we do it a little further north, but in the south.

This begins me back to Barringer High marching band tearing shi... up in Brick City (Newark, NJ). I love the way Southern brought it to FAMU. The same way our drum line brought it to West Wide, Vailsburg, Shabazz, and Central. Damn, I would do ANYTHING to go back to those days.

I just noticed this.🤔 When they remodeled Bragg, why wasn't the 100 given their own section in the stands for easy entrance and exit.😬 People on all sides but the top. Most fans come to the game for the band anyway.

Ok so im from Florida bornn and raised, so of course im a FAMU fan. But my honest opinion is Southern out played FAMU. Its like a car with custom speakers and a car with a system put in sum 12s or 15s and highs. Both sounded good. The field show was about even for me. But Southern for the over all win.

@@jj3a1 I enjoy watching the HBCU bands......SU sounds good but their shows are boring, what SU and their fans don't understand is that the halftime show is supposed to ENTERTAIN the audience. If you are not a musician the average person doesn't relate to terms like "musicality"...they are looking to be ENTERTAIN!! and That is why FAMU is the most well-known HBCU band because THEY ENTERTAIN THE CROWD. Their dance routines are what separates them from other bands and also their 360 fast steps per minute.....which SU does a horrible job of mimicking......Both bands are good but FAMU is the more ENTERTAINING band. Good shows from both bands

Just curious. Can somebody from FAMU tell me what the punishment is for dropping that leg during Slow One rehearsals? Or is it secret like frat shit? That maneuver looks grueling as hell. My ass probably would’ve been running twenty miles around a track for screwing it up.

Am I missing something? Famu did more on the field than SU and far as formations and dance moves plus sounded way clearer. People just stuck on the “disrespect” (which I think was bad timing) like were they not supposed to play for there players? I think not, Famu just so happen to still be on the field. Also stuck on the fact that they are LOUD but I didn’t see anything special besides the drum major landing on his hat and they only have one. Someone make it make it sense to me. So to be in the swac Famu needs to 2x the horn section and blow hard, got it, just be loud.
