I love how thoughtful Sofi is about her work! This was a great video and makes us also think about what we want our work to look like and the why and how behind it.
You were absolutely kind and thoughtful to add subtitles to this. The sound got rough in places, but you were mindful about the problem. Keep up the fantastic work!
such a great interview! I love that you are producing interviews now, amazing to hear these stories. I love her explaining what a good image is and the whole visual evolution of her work. more interviews!
A very interesting interview and Sofi has a great story to tell. Thanks for putting this together and going the extra yard by adding the captions during the audio issue segment.
Wow, great interview. I love to see folks looking at the world with fresh eyes.. It helps remind me to do the same and reset at times. love the idea of looking at old cameras and looking at the ISO from another perspective.
Fantastic Fantastic interview! Thank you so much for doing this! I can't say it enough that noise is a beautiful aspect of photography and has always been there. I hate the clinical look that some of the modern cameras give. This is making really want to repurchase a Digicam! Thank you so much again for blessing us with this!
I do agree with Sofi that luminescence noise can add texture to skin in portraits and do a lot for the imagination which raw resolution and low noise serves in a more literal sense. I think the latter can tend towards being overwhelming and offputting, which would be self-defeating. Good chat.
i know nothing about photography but thats a great review, and I'm happy Sofi mentioned Onkyokei and indeed I see how that and her photography informs each other, this focus on (the) small noise(s), letting it be on its own terms.
I think, the Canon Powershot G6 was a intresting Camera... I love it...great ergonomics, like a tiny DSLR, CCD Sensor, shoulder display, f2 lense and so many buttons. It is from 2004 and shoots RAW.
Awesome video as always. Two main themes that stand out: art is subjective (yes I know, in other news water is wet, but i feel sometimes it's important to remind it) and it's not the tool, it's the skill. I wish you two would have gotten to talk about Sofi's workflow because seems like there's a fair share of post processing, at least for her pro work.
Great video. I've just been going through some old drives of pics from the mid 2000s, really loving the images but frustrated I have no idea what I shot them on, this was before I realised I enjoyed photography. I just bought a lumix dmc Lx2 to add to my collection. Looking forward to going through your channel
I made 1600 iso NR off custom modes for my LX3 and GDR IV after watching Miami Vice (2006) recently. The Ricoh is just noisy but the Lumix somehow oversaturates the colours in addition to the noise and I love the results. Also I think everyone interested in digicams should watch movies like Miami Vice, Love Exposure, Kamikaze Girls, they're inspiring and unique in their brutal digitalness.
Very interesting. I think I just learned something new here. There is definitely a different approach to digicams, that I'll have to experiment with myself.
Great interview! I remember reading that DPReview interview and feeling a sense of relief, like I wasn't the only weirdo who liked to pull out their ancient point & shoot for fun. I'm glad you two were able to link up, and thanks to you both for bringing kindred spirits together! Also, what is that tiny little external flash that Job is using at the 2:09 mark?
I'm so glad you liked it! Job told me the name but now I can't remember. Gonna connect the thread on that in the Discord so look out for a ping there :)
The conversations made me smile... :). Using the 85mm f/1.4 lens to focus on the eyelashes of ladies at close range for portrait photography was nearly impossible... You might have been able to achieve the goal, eh, say, one out of 36 frames... Today, you can kinda sorta achieve the goal with the 7artisans' 55mm/f1.4 attached on an APS-C camera thanks to the smaller sensor size since the depth of field of that setup is not paper thin. Sometimes, smaller sensor size is better. And yes, the price of the lens is cheap.
It's 2024 now. The price landscape has changed WILDLY. Old digicams have become CRAZY expensive (at least here), and it's more common to find an old SLR or SLT and a few lenses for the price of a 10+ years older point-and-shoot digicam.
Wonderful! I can relate to this. I've used digicams since 2015 and still use them. They are awesome. I prefer ccd types like the G2 G5 Lumix lx5 etc. How can I join the group
Ali, did you recently have a giveaway for a subscriber or was someone scamming me asking me to contact them through Telegram and send money to cover the shipping?
Confess I'm confused by what you mean by 'digicam'. Do you just mean any digital camera (as opposed to film). Everything from point and shoots, camera phones, DSLR, mirrorless, etc.? Or do you mean something more niche than that.
I like Amsterdam so much, maybe the most wonderful town in the world, the most beautiful. It is a pity I don't live 4.hours by car any more from this city or a thousand bridges.
I love the Netherlands, but oh boy, Schipol airport, not a fan. 2 hrs just to get my baggage checked (back in . I have another name that rhymes with the official one.
The sound is not too bad. We can hear. The wind don't like you 😂 protect those farmers in the Scandinavia countries. World economic forum shills every where over there.
⚡🖤⚡ appreciate this Ali & Sofi ~ I have watched through twice already and I know I'm going to watch again at least once or twice more... It was such a pleasure to hear your journey this far Sofi ~ Ali I really can't believe you can edit and post this with such a quick turnaround ~ I love the long form content and could watch and even longer form ~ big thanks and much strength to both of you I hope there will be another Meetup of you to conversing soon 🖤 gabriel ( @digicamdreams )
Wow Gabriel, thank you so much for watching and I am so glad you enjoyed it despite some technical difficulties. I enjoyed every minute of the real time chat.
I just love listening to people talking about their cameras and why they are using them or how they came to them. Thanks Ali.
Thank you and I couldn't agree more. People's journeys and perspectives are truly interesting.

The G series is overall so great. The G9 was my first "serious" digital camera.
Loving this new format Ali!
Thanks Cliff!
I live in The Netherlands and met Sophie the other day. Was really cool. Nice to see you two collab :)
I like the format of the video as an interview.
Thank you! Super helpful to get that feedback.
Fascinating conversation!

Hey dBridge, how have you been liking your LX2 so far? I would love to know if you have any go-to settings or ways of using it that you enjoy most :)
@Finn I'll be honest, I moved on to some other cameras, which are my daily carries. Namely, ixus 70 (sd1000), ricoh gx100 and Contax TVS Digital
I loved this interview, and really look forward to many more.
Thank you John!
Very enjoyable talk with Sofi Lee.
Wow, loved watching this video! Hope you got some rest after that long layover :)

Digicam in the vernacular typically just means old point and shoot cameras.
