I let my zebra finches out of the cage daily and fly around the house. I just leave their cage open and they go in and out as they please. They love the high ceilings and the FREEDOM. Zebra finches were meant to fly!
Oh that's awesome. Would love to do that but I have one dog that would love to eat one lol. Thnx for coming by😀🐦🐦💕
B Lee's Pets Their cage is really big though which is very nice. I hate small bird cages, I think they should be banned!
Yes but.....don't they leave little poops? On your furniture?
@@BLeesPets That was a question I had, I have three large dogs and am considering getting finches- they'd need a big cage to stay in, then?
@@ellenbohn8607 yes you could get as small as 13.5x23 but I really wouldn't go any smaller.🤓
Omg Pete and Repete 😁
Such cute and clever names
Thnx so much. And thnx for watching : )
I wish i would've known that 3 years ago. I started with just 2 finches(male and female) and ended up with about 45+ finches with more on the way. And yeah you're right. They are very messy and loud but I love and enjoy them all. They're like my little family.
Oh wow 45 + geez. Yeah, I do love them too. I don't have anymore now and its been a few years but I'm thinking about getting a couple. Thnx for watching : )
Would you say that having 2 finches is messy or having all 45+ messy? I had 4 cockatiels and…let’s just say it was a disaster everyday from the mess
God bless you. I can just tell you ears wonderful human being. Thanks so much for the video I’m thinking about buying a couple finches soon
Thnx so much for watching and hope it helped you decide to get a couple. Blessings to you :)
Nice looking birds. I’ll bet they are thankful right now that they aren’t turkeys. 😉
God bless, and have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving. 🙂
LOL 😆 Yes they are happy they are not Turkey's right now. Thnx for coming by. Blessings to you😀💕🐦🐦Have a good night
Lady: Hey Everyone Welcome Back To My Channel
Finch: *beep*
They make such cute, weird little honking noises.
LOL yes they do. It's like a squeaky dog toy sound
The noises they make🥺🥺🥺
I've got 16 zebra finches in a double flight cage and they are my life. Cleaned out three times a week fresh water every other day with calcivet and vitamins. They love all kinda of veg and fruit. I can't seem to see where to post a pic of my flight on here. They are noisy and I did think about allergies but I take ashwagandha so that can create congestion. I've kept going anyways lol 😂. They all have little characters of their own which is the best bit. I've a cupboard full of natural dr marshal bits and pieces that are benefiting them. Breading is lovely too. 🐦
Thnx so much for watching and commenting : ) All the best with your finches. 16 wow is a lot ; )
I've got 12 free range in my house, with babies on the way. Im too soft to put them in a cage or stop them breeding much. They run the show now . Dodgy little chooks but i love them. Chooks like making babies, nests and food in that order.
The Zebra Finches are so pretty!
Thanks so much for coming by😀🐦🐦
Got 2 young ones... since family was getting rid of them giving them back to some pet shop for free - they breed like crazy and they got terrified that they will end up with whole flock of them.
So I ended up with 2 young males that don't need to be fed but still have some "baby feathers".
One cool thing they do is that they both sit behind laptop exhaust (beefy laptop, gives off lots of heat) and just... lie flat on belly. Basically going to sleep instantly. I mean they are not dead, since they will move if spooked, but they seem to really like hot air blowing for some reason...
Nice video and birds 😊👍
Thanks for coming by : )
Hi Brenda. Great info video and tips. Beautiful Finches. I love the sound they make. Chirp, chirp Pete & Repete! Tfs and sending Cali love. XOXO :)
Hi Lila👋yeah we love the sound they make too. Thnx for coming by.😀🐦🐦💕
Very informative, thank you. I first heard about them when a roommate had some. I didn't think they were loud at all, I got a huge kick out of their 'beeps'. Another thing I never knew, they originated in Australia. Beautiful birds!
Thanks so much for stopping by : )
they are soooo messy. it's more cleaning than i'd like but they are funny characters.
OMG, I was watching your latest video about society finches and was intrigued by the zebra finches and this video was recommended! I am so glad it did because I have learned so much and these guys are just adorable!!
LOL that's awesome. Thnx so much for watching my friend : )
This is a great video! Super informative. I am thinking about getting some finch companions and this helped answer a lot of questions. Pete and Repete look like happy fellows :) take care!
Thnx so much for watching. All the best with the finches if you get them🤓💕🐦🐦Have a great week
Thanks for introducing Pete and Repete and sharing your knowledge 👍👍👍

Thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge.i too got 3 pairs of finches.love them.they look so cute taking bath n just collecting stuff to put into their nest.
Thnx for stopping by.😀🐦💕
Their noises are so cute 😭😭 I can't stand the sound of parakeets and cockatiels so they're out of the question for me. Thanks for the vid! I will get a huge cage
Thnx for stopping by : ) All the best with your birds
Aww so tiny!!!! Pete and repeat lol!! Love it
Tiny birds with huge hearts
Yes : ) Thank you for watching : )
I used to have a large variety of finches when I was in high school. I really enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing this.
Hey Mark and I really enjoy them. Thnx for stopping by Cindy. Have a blessed Thanksgiving 🦃😀🐦🐦💕
I guess i screwed up, my finches just laid eggs, i thought to shift them to a bigger cage, so that the babies can learn to fly and have more room. But i noticed after shifting the nest yesterday, they are not sitting on it anymore. Today, i reversed the whole process, got them back to the small cage, as well as I shifted the nest. Just waiting for them to sit on it.
Yeah, they'll be ok. If you wait a little longer when the babies can fly it will be much easier to switch cages ;) congrats on the baby chicks
I let my all day and back in around 20:00 hrs.Light out and I covered them. Canaries and zebra finches are the best and they get along so well and eat the same food and fruits.
Nice thnx for sharing that and thnx for stopping by : )
thank you for sharing your information^^They are so cute.~~~~
Thnx and Thank you for stopping by😀🐦🐦
I’ve never kept birds before and they look very nice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about them!

I also as a cichlid keeper and interested in keeping birds.
GREAT info to know before getting a couple of these cuties😊😊 your cage looks WONDERFUL & I know they're so happy, such a good mother😊😊
Thank you! 😊 Although I don't have these 2 anymore as you well know I have new Society finches which I love so much more then the Zebra finches. Thnx for stopping by again : ) Blessings
I didn't and don't know a whole lot even though I have these Zebra finches for three years. Everywhere I looked said 30" length cage. I feel bad and am looking online for something more (budget is a problem). You are right about male female reproduction. They will lay eggs in their food dish. I noticed the live eggs are blueish and feel alive when touched and non fertile eggs are white and cold. I felt bad about removing the eggs but it reaches a point that one has to. I read the breeding period was February through August but that does not matter. What I don't like about cages, is I feel the cage should have doors on all sides to get in there and clean. (don't understand why there aren't more doors from different directions. My finches are sooo messy. dragging millet into the water tray, paper towel shreds, cotton balls for nesting drug into the water. piltering each other's nests of materia. (some of it quite funny) My finches can take up to three baths a day. I clean every day sometimes twice and change the water two to three times a day. (they are a lot of work) I feed them what you feed them....
It seems that your finches stay at the top of the cage. Do they ever go up and down?
I don't have these birds anymore. But yes, they went to the bottom. You might be interested about my Society finches. They aren't as noisy as the Zebra finches. There is also videos on the Society finches from egg to adult. Very interesting to see. Thnx for stopping by and all the best to you with your birds : )
Yes, they go down to eat where the trays are and the millet spray but they like to be up.
Zebra finches are so cute. My family used to have them when I was a kid! 🐦🐦💖
Thnx for coming by. Have a Happy Thanksgiving if you are in the states😀🐦🐦🐾🐟💕🍗
I had my finches for 3 years turning 4 years now, and I love them to death
Aww that's wonderful : ) Thnx for watching
I’m getting a flench after I pass my school so it will be summer and I can play with it more😁god bless you and Pete and unpete
Aww that will be nice to have a finch. Have fun with it when you get it : ) God bless you too
your cage is HUGEEE.thats perfect
Thnx Yeah, the bigger the cage the better for the birds. Thnx for watching :)
Also I use Turf at bottom helps with splatter of seeds. And those food dishes i put at bottom away from perches
Great tip! Thnx
I pick up 2 Finches tommorow a male and a female the women and guy are busy working all the time so can't care for them anymore I can't wait to pick them up tomorrow they are beautiful 🐦💕
Awesome! Enjoy them. Keep in mind they are not easy to tame but with some patience I believe you can get them on your finger at least. Just take your time. First by leaving your hand in the cage everyday for a few mins. Then use a stick to try and get them on that. Then try your finger. It's takes a long time but hopefully they will begin to trust you.
@@BLeesPets thankyou I will do they have not long arrived there singing away just now 🤣
I’ve never owned finches before but I’m researching to get a couple. I know they love flying so could I leave their cage open during the day to let them fly around my room/house?
I don’t have any dogs or anything
I'm sure you can. But would only allow them to fly in a room. I also would leave their food in the cage. Watch my new video I just put up on comparing finches to parakeets. Happy Easter to you and all the best on the birds
Where r u from I can get u some sub to my channel to see my lovely finches
hi. You need to have more perches and different
perches your birds can get bumble foot!
and also more toys please do put more.
There were several tree perches in there. Video didn't show much. But thank you for your concern : )
I used to let mine free fly around the house.
Word of advice, put material around the doorway for visibility or keep the door open towards a wall for a short approach... trust me.
Thank you : )
I have my zebra finches since 2k13 and don't know why I'm watching this, but nice video :D
LOL thnx for watching anyway. 🤓Have a great weekend
@@BLeesPets you too :)
They are so tiny and so beautiful. I've always loved the little finches.💛Have a lovely Thanksgiving. Safe journeys.💛
👋Hi there. Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope your TG was a great one😀🐦🐦💕
Super footage 🔥🔥 watching with a great pleasure 👍👍👍 welcome for relax 🔥
Thanks for the visit
Thankyou!
Thank you for the info and most of this is good🙂 I do want to caution about the grit! I do Not recommend as it can cause impaction ... also definitely add lettuces and leafy greens 🥬 and toys! They will play with toys especially bells and natural fiber toys they can pull apart. I add a high quail pellet like Harrison’s super fine to my seed mix. Thanks again and so right on having more than one and a large long flight cage! Height is not as important as length so they can fly back and forth. If you have a safe place to let them freefly where they can go back to their cage once a day even better !
Thnx for your info : ) I do not use grit now I use Organic egg shells well rinsed and crushed. I did have some toys in there and they did not play with them. They did like swinging on the mullet hanger though. But just a note these birds are long gone now. I had 12 at one time with babies. It was fun but really messy ; ) Now I have 2 Parakeets. Thnx for watching and for the great info : )
I was so charmed by the sparrows I was thinking about finches. I'm not sure about the cage though, rather would like a small but open one, let them have freedom of my small apartment, definitely take a breeding pair also. I understand that it takes patience to get them to come to your hand, Switzerland was amazing as the wild birds just wanted something to eat and were not scared of me after a few years (see photo). I am guessing that if you pay them a lot of attention they get used to you and can bond, although I am sure it's not an easy undertaking. If I do this it's only to try and improve the quality of life for a few forced to live in pet shops..... Thanks for the video.
Awesome : ) All the best with the bird if you do : )
For the years of experience you had that cage looks quite bare. You can put some foraging box sprays or hanging toys to keep them busy looking for food instead of letting them destroy tissue😂
This is an old video. Toys were put in but not in this video. And still the toys they would use to make their nests. But, they still loved the tissue. Also, a bird bath was put in and they loved that. I don't have these birds anymore
@@BLeesPets I apologize for being misinformed,do they passed away? Sorry to hear that!
Nice video. I enjoyed it. Very good info on finches. 👍
Thnx so much for stopping in. Have a great week🤓💕🐦🐦
Cute birds! They are so cute! I love that nest!
Thnx so much for coming by. Have a great day😀🐦🐦
@@BLeesPets hey, i just got a pair, i was wondering what kind of toys I can put in the cage,I already have a swing and i know this is a stupid question, is it required to keep a bowl for them to bathe? I am new to all these stuff. They are big time messy.
@@dakshpaul646 yes, a bowl for them to bath in is great. I got a small turtle bowl for them and the loved it. You can also use a spray bottle on mist and mist the birds. I use to do that when I was cleaning the cage. They like swings. Or anything that you can put hay in or soft paper in so they can build a nest. They are more builder birds then playful birds. Hope this helps🤓🐦
@@BLeesPets Thanks a lot for ur help. Appreciate it.
Cute birds.😁😍😘
Thank you😀🤗🐦
I have a question .can I keep 4 males or 1 male and 4 females .
That cage can fit 100 finches for sure
They are so cute. I like watching them in stores. I used to have a Canary years ago and had 2 male Budgies (Parakeets).
Aww thnx so much for coming 😀💕🐦🐦
@@BLeesPets You're welcome.
Nice size cage for finches
But I recommend natural wood perches and lots of toys that they can chew and pick apart
Also toys designed in such a way that they have to find and work for their treats
Thanks

Here’s my sad story with finches...I’m 70 years old now, but when I was a little girl, my mom loved finches and we had an up and down cage. She was in a hurry to clean the bottom of the cage and put the vacuum cleaner tube inside to suck up the poop, well...you can figure out the rest. We lost only a few, but still a sad way to pass.
Oh no sorry to hear. Thnx for watching though : )
it was happened with my hamster once but we opened vacuum cleaner quickly and got him out, he was ok.
Cool finches
No never had that problem

My local store sells finches for 20 dollars each. Cheap birds and it seems you can still have a bond with them!
Oh that's a good price. And you can bond with them. Thnx for stopping by : )
We bought a female today & saw on Google that they and Diamond Doves will cohabitate well. We have a female Diamond Dove that is very timid, probably because her sister used to abuse her, soon after they gained feathers. We sold her "Evil" sister and for the last couple years, she's been alone and finally calmed down this last year. They are house in a cage that I built. It's 30" tall, 3' wide & 20" deep. After watching your video I think I'll begin construction of a wider enclosure for them. The Dove's food/water are at floor level so, I bought hanging containers for the Finch. We enjoyed watching your video & now that we know how to sex Zebra Finchs, we won't be afraid to buy another. The Doves were sold to us as a same sex pair, since they had never laid any eggs they figured they were both males. 6 weeks later, we heard high pitched chirping & discovered the 1st set of hatchlings....what an "adventure" that was. I'm curious to hear what your opinion is on my finch being housed with a Diamond Dove. They've been together several hours and thus far, seem to be getting along fine....
Oh how cool. I would love a Diamond Dove. Hard to come by here. But as I know it, Diamond Doves and or any dove gets along with most birds. Seems your cage is a good size. LOL about your thinking they were same sex and you ended up with chicks. Chicks were fun with the finches but having 10 finches was a little crazy and did get loud at times. Sounds as though your finch and dove will be buddies. Keep me posted on how it goes. I would be interested in knowing. Thnx for stopping in : )
I just recently bought 2 finches, Charlie & Charlotte. Just have to say I'm so Pleased with my New lil members of the family. My Daughter's love Em as well 😊. Thanks for the Info you have 2 lovely Birds
Aww that's wonderful. You are welcome. Enjoy🤓💕🐦🐦
Thank you for sharing. I always have parakeets and have never had finches so I am trying to learn all I can about finches to see if they are for me. Your video helped a lot.
Have you ever tried the clear food box that is open on one side and they can go in it to eat? My parakeets love it and there’s never any seed on my floor.
Thank you. No I've never tried the open box. But I don't get much seed out if the cage now with the parakeets. But thnx for the tip🤓👍
So beautiful birds 🐤💚🐥👍

I am getting hand fed zebra finch 😍
Oh that's awesome. All the best :)
I'm getting a couple of finches never had them before thought it would be interesting to have them
Thank you so much me and my mom are trying to buy one but I have to tell my dad so we are trying to like make pros and cons and how I would take care of it and if u have any suggestions plz let me know
If you can get 2 finches it is much better. They will keep each other company. But if not just be sure to give it lots of attention. You don't want to just stick your hand in the cage. Start by just being next to the cage so the bird gets use to you then you can stick your hand in, but don't reach for the bird. Then you can use a stick to get the bird on the stick. Then try your finger : ) Hope this helps
B Lee's Pets thx this will help a lot cause I am trying to get a lot of information about finches and also will they try to fly away if u let them out?
@@mikayla40 yes so make sure you have the door closed and ceiling fans off. They could fly into a ceiling fan and that could kill the bird. If they get out of the cage just wait they will fly back to it because that is where the food is. Just leave door to cage open. Hope this helps
B Lee's Pets ok thx
*Beep Beep*

Cute Lil dudes .. added to my playlist called BIRDS .
Hey thnx a lot😀Happy Thanksgiving if you are in the states😀🐦🐦💕
Finches are so adorable love hearing them sing 😊

your cage is wonderfull but i find it soo empty! i have 6 zebra finches and their cage has many things, 3 edible plants (biets, lattuce and grass)2 different types of millet spray, some fruit, a swing and bird sand with seashell, they also got baths ofc.
Love your birds tho ❤
Thnx for watching. I did get another finch (female) and I usually have millet spray in the millet hanger but because I was videoing I took it out and put it at the bottom. I also, had a plate of a variety of things for the birds to eat at the bottom of the cage. Fresh greens and such. I use to have 10 finches in that cage but gave them away. I think 6 finches is perfect. Thnx for stopping by :)
@@BLeesPets nice! i got 6 finches too, and just made a new bigger cage for them
I was told the perches need to be front to back....i have 55 birds . Good video
Wow! 55 birds? That's a lot Thnx for stopping by and watching : )
We just got a zebra Finch and im really scared if we are doing things right... Since she was given to us, she came also alone and was actually really sad because she was alone so i put her a mirror. It kinda helped but she Is still acting kinda sick? Its been 4 days since she moved to our house, maybe she just has to get used to us... Also i am kinda noisy with my music practice, Is that good for them? I change the water and food and tried giving her broccoli wich i read was good for them finches but she hasnt eaten it. Maybe i need patience but maybe i can also get some tips? I really would appreciate it...
Maybe try getting her a friend, another Finch. They are flock birds, they don't do well alone. She will be happy with another Finch around. Best of luck.
Yes another finch the same sex is a great idea and it will be much happier. Also try green leaf lettuce or spinach. Don't forget to get some millet. They love that the most. Hope this helps
i have a pretty small cage not too small but i think its a lil too small for my finches i didnt know at the time when i bought it and i know my family wouldnt buy me a larger one is it okay i let them out in my house to fly all day and then when its night put them into the cage to sleep so they get exercise? ( i have two finches)
Yes, that's a great idea : )
what are the dimentions of the cage. mine is two by three feet, is that big enough for six finches?
i dont have my birds yet
That's big enough. I don't have this cage anymore but I beleive it was 4'x3' somewhere around there. All the best to you and the birds
Nice vid
Thnx for stopping by :)
Yeah I have 2 zbra finches so i wanted to learn about them.
So I have 2 finches named Ariana and Archer and I really want them to not be scared of me and get used to me like I want to bond with them but it's taking longer than I thought
Yes, with Finches it does take a long time. Not like Parakeets. They are easier to tame. You just have to get their trust. Everyday put your hand in the cage and use a stick to get them to get on. Then you can work on getting them on your finger. But if you are looking for a bird to get on your finger and enjoy on your shoulder then a parakeet is better. Finches are hard to tame. Sorry. Hope this helps
@@BLeesPets Thank you so much it helps a Lot!!❤
I suggest adding swings, and more natural wooden perches :)
Thnx so much for the suggestions. I do have 2 natural perches in there on the lower part of the cage. 🤓💕🐦🐦
Hiya... idk if you're going to reply since this is an old video but yesterday I rescued a baby Zebra Finch... I currently have him in a large cage with food water, toys ect... he seems extremely happy and is singing alot, (can he also eat dried mealworms?) so far I've let him out of his cage the majority of the day since ik they prefer to be out :) hes friendly but ofc hes alone, pet shops around me only sell older birds so idk if it will be a good idea and due to the COVID-19 I cannot but another bird rn since they're not actually for sale... will he be okay alone?
Thankyou (great video btw) co
Yes, he will be ok alone. Just make sure to give him lots of attention. If he is afraid of you start sitting next to the cage. Then put your hand in the cage as much as possible. Then you can see if he will get on your finger. But the most important being that he is alone is to give lots of attention to him. Maybe later you can get him a friend. Even if they are older it will be good. Hope this helps : )
@@BLeesPets Thanyou sm for getting back to me!! He will ofc be receiving lots of attention hahaa! He isnt too scared of human touch tbh, I've handled him and his hopped on my hand to get in/out the cage! I will definitely look into buying another one for him once he's a little older
Do you know if they can eat dried meal worms and suet pellets? I cannot find information on that on google :/ xo
Thankyou sm again for your response I appreciate it :) xo
@@codiehallard802 I've never tried mealworms. But you can try it. They will eat it or not. Do try some greens not all greens though. They do like a little spinach

Nice, but why you kept two males in that big cage😊
Ended up getting female and ended up with 10 baby finches

Hello
I have two zebra finches(Male and female ). They are old enough to be bred. They seem to be ok with each other and sometimes they preen each other. I have provided a nesting box(I had put some of the nesting materials in the box) and also have put some on cage floor. The male carries the nesting material to nest but I dont see female making the nest. She will be holding the material that's all. Both of them go inside and out of nesting box. They both sleep in the nest box itself the whole night. But, they are not mating! Is this ok!? Because some tell that they both will build the nest at first and when all the conditions seem to be ok, they mate. I also provide them greens and sprouts to encourage them to mate/breed. I am not sure whether the male is dancing and singing to attract his mate. Please help
The male will dance and sing just before mating. This happens usually upon waking up in the morning. Are you seeing any eggs? Not all eggs will be fertile. If you see an egg you can mark it and make note of date. If the egg doesn't hatch within 14 days then you can take it out of the nest. The female doesn't really build the nest. She will just sit on eggs. After chicks hatch then both the female and male will feed the chick. Be sure to check on nest every so often to make sure it doesn't have a lot of bird poop in it. Just take out that bad part and throw away. Put new nesting material in the cage and they will start again. Hope this helps
very nice video👍

i love your birds i have a zebra finch too we got 2 at first a boy and a girl but they mated so we got a boy out of it and his name is chick pea and i love him so much we spend time together every day i subscribed by the way i like your channel
Aww I love the little babies. They are so tiny. Chick pea is a cute name. Thnx so much for watching and subbing :)
I feel so awful. We keep our finches outside and something knocked over the cage, and one of our finches flew away. The other one stayed. It was chirping a lot in the morning. I was thinking it missed the other bird :(
Oh no.... What a bummer. Sorry to hear
If I get a male and female, do they tend to have a lot of babies? I have a male and female parakeet but they have never had babies come out of their eggs.
Yes they will. That's all finches do is make babies
I have a huge cage for my finch like that, but she doesn't seem to get around very well in it..her mate passed away a couple of months ago and I'm quite surprised that she is still alive because I was not sure about getting her another Male? Any feedback would be helpful.
If it was me, I would get her another friend. Male or female. They are flocking birds so it might help her out. Just a thought ;) Have a great week
