  • Theater Talk's panel of theater experts: Jesse Green of New York Magazine, Michael Musto of Out.com and Patrick Pacheco of the Los Angeles Times join co-hosts Michael Riedel of the New York Post and Susan Haskins to explain on who will win the Tony Awards and why.
    (Taped: 05-09-14)
Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in 1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins.
The program is one of the few independent productions on PBS and now airs weekly on Thirteen/WNET in New York and WGBH in Boston. Now, CUNY TV offers New York City viewers additional opportunities to catch each week's show. (Of course, Theater Talk is no stranger to CUNY TV, since the show is taped here each week before its first airing on Thirteen/WNET.)
The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts.

It annoys me when Michael will not let Susan ever finish a sentence.

I find it troublesome that some critics, including those on this program, should they not care for a particular play or musical, feel compelled to be nasty about the show and about anyone who might have liked it.

That Michael Riedel-Jason Robert Brown story is the reason I have a strong dislike for theatre critics. Who says that to someone after they win an award?

5:48 Michael Riedel ACTUALLY say Newsies would win in 2012 and Matilda in 2013. Look it up.

I don't understand what's wrong with the flashy, over-the-top musical or performance.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, it's just more interesting to go for a subtle performance.

Now should it really matter if a musical has an original score or not?
*Ain't Misbehavin', Jerome Robbins' Broadway, and Fosse were all revues.
*Cats may have had original music, but most of the lyrics weren't.
*Crazy for You and Jersey Boys had no original songs at all.
*The Lion King only had half original songs.
*Contact wasn't even a musical at all.
*Once only had two original songs.
The the one thing they all have in common? THEY STILL WON THE TONY FOR BEST MUSICAL!

I'm sorry but these people are just blatantly rude.

Michael Riedel is possibly the rudest host ever. Please stop mansplaining everything and saying insensitive comments, and please let Susan Haskins actually speak.
