    I actually used to do this back when I was a kid because it was back in the days where you could only buy games like once a year so I would play the living HELL out of games. It was fun times. It's great to see someone finally making a video about this.

      @rodneyhorsley8601
      What's hard to believe? I also wanted to become as powerful as possible before ifrit even began as a kid. What's the best way to become powerful in this game? Junctioning and not leveling. How do you make junctioning more useful? Better magic. How do you get better magic? Card refining.
      It's not some big mystery. It's just time consuming. Not sure if I ever completed it. But I def got some high level magic before I went and beat ifrit.

      @@rodneyhorsley8601 - Loads of people did this. It's literally how you play this game. Do you really think that RUclips content creators were the first to do anything in older games? I figured out how to get Lionheart early on before I even knew anyone else that did it. Me and my friends were min-maxing and speed-running games before we even knew that those terms existed. The internet didn't exist back then.

      @@rodneyhorsley8601 I have done similar things before. As a kid, I got max level before finishing the level forest in Mystic Quest(it is the first dungeon, I think). It didn't take 70+ hours, but it took an unreasonably long time, and I only did it because why the heck not? I'm a kid, I have no responsibilities.
      As for ff8, what was shown in this video wasn't complicated. While I didn't go quite as far as he did, and I didn't limit myself to doing it before Ifrit, I did get level 100 extremely early in the game, just for fun.

      That's a benefit. I believe the only way to get perfect stats with perfect magic absorption is by staying at beginning level with everyone. GFs give permanent stat bonuses if they're equipped during level up. I don't remember the spell maybe it was meltdown but to get 255 stats in one field you needed it there but to get good absorption in elemental defense you needed it there. So, there was a sacrifice. But, if you stayed level 7, then used GF stat bonuses to dump 93 points into that stat, you could still hit 255 with another crappier junction and move that spell to the absorption line and there would no longer be any sacrifice.

      It deals damage to you equal to 10 percent of your max health per second for 10 seconds. During that time, all of your spells are instant cast and your attack speed for non spell abilities are doubled. All damage that you inflict is also doubled. If you want OP all you have to do is abuse the ever loving GOD out of the "Card" ability. Gives AP but no EXP. this lets you max GFs while keeping your low level. (if playing the steam or ps4 versions, use the easy battle cheat which makes anything less than a one-shot against you worthless.)
    Farm gnats, the fish, caterpillars, and Ifrit's cave (after getting him of course) and once you get good enough defense/HP junctions, Rexs. most of the fodder enemies in the area around Balamb have _REALLY_ good rare card drops.
    Quezalcoatal has card refine which lets you get items from cards, and 5 or 10 of the Borg (if I remember right) turns into an item to teach card to a GF.
    Quistis can also get several of her more powerful limits before even fighting Ifrit.
    FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO _NOT_ LEVEL IF POSSIBLE. _ALL_ enemies scale off level so a level 7-9 can _DECIMATE_ everything in game. and Stat boost items can be refined later in game for pretty cheap.
    Also the ONLY characters you should max level are the guest characters since the game will averages levels across the entire party, and since they are guest characters they take their levels with them.
    5 level 50s = 250 ÷ 5 = avLV 50
    1 lv 100 + 4 level 10s = 140 ÷ 5 = avLV 28
    this is important since HP for, say, T-Rexaur is 10,363 or so at lowest possible level and ~76,000 at LV100
    and so on.

    • @Saijansfavorites
      @Saijansfavorites 5 лет назад +3

      @@williamburg2735 the game is really simple at low lvls, but if you really want to see overpowered damage get a lvl 100 zell, with max str and toss a vit 0 on a boss. you can 2 round even a lvl 100 omega weapon with zell alone if you ae fast enough and are able to keep his combo going nonstop. i have seen him pull off somewhere around 800k damage a round by himself. not even squall is capable of getting more than half that.
      also selphie can just use the end and 1 hit kill any and all bosses, but that is cheap as the requirements to get that to appear is a major pain. you would have to be lvl 100, with less than 1% total hp, to get the best chance of making it appear.

    • @burger_kinghorn

      @@Saijansfavorites Except they did. They designed it so levelling up makes the enemies get stronger so you don't get any real advantage. You still need to advance your skills so you have to come up with these weird hacks and workarounds to not get XP...so rely on an optional required mini game and side quests.
      Put in a Magic command but make it completely useless because it's a consumable item instead of having MP. It becomes your equipment so try and cast any spells and it weakens you. We're given the Draw command to get anywhere from 0 (bc it can fail) to 9 spells per turn from enemies in battle, who have infinite spells to cast at you. So hang around for a minimum of 12 turns to reach a full 100 stock for a given spell.
      Square made some weird decisions for FF8's gameplay mechanics which ruined the game for me. Mechanics that were unlike other installments in the series (or most RPGs) and later discarded for FF9 onward. That said, I beat it once and liked the setting, story, and music.

    The Str bonus ability Ifrit gives you really disincentivizes leveling up this early unfortunately, as it takes time to unlock and bites you in the ass if you grind levels too early. Same applies to all Stat bonus skills, but the Str Bonus is the one that's easiest to get early on.

    I hope they don’t tamper too much with the FF8 junction system, or the stats in some weird way. I enjoy the freedom to choose between grinding and becoming an overpowered monster or simply staying on a level that allows for a decent challenge.
    Me personally, I enjoy feeling powerful in games like these, so I basically try to grind and collect as many things that can give me an early advantage as possible.
    I know that the higher level you go, the enemies level up with you and they become more powerful, as well as gaining access to more powerful spells and items. And by the same token there’s the Card truck that lets you stay at a low level. I live that freedom if choice. So hopefully the renaster improves in some way the system but doesn’t change too much. Anyway I can’t wait for the remaster. It’s just around the corner.

      The remaster is just that - a graphical remaster. It doesn't change anything except that it adds a kind of 'turbo mode' to the game that triples the speed, which certainly helps with traversing the map. It also includes a function that allows the disabling of random battle encounters. The PC version adds a few other things, I believe, but nothing too special.

    This covers about half of a strategy i read about and used back in the day. Dont level up, use card mod to avoid exp, learn gf abilities and junction stronger magic to your stats.
    But dont stop till you get an airship. Then get the jumbo cactuar GF. Cactuar has all stat increase level ups.
    Keep 2 party members alive Quistis being one of them, and give them spirit up, vit up, and strength or magic up depending what damage they deal.
    Equip one with cactuar and the other with the GF's that give you the give stat increases and junction spirit,vit and strength/magic up
    Head to one of the islands of heaven or hell where every monster is level 100 regardless of what level you are,
    Enter the battle with Quistis at low health and with the degenerator limit break. This will kill every monster on the islands instantly.
    1 battle will raise you about 10 levels
    I had Squall and Quistis around level 10 when doing this, which gave me an additionally 90 points of vitality, spirit and strength or magic, on top of the 90 you would receive on level up, you will only need a decent magic to give you to the max 255 limit.
    With vitality and spirit maxed every attack you receive will be heavily reduced, Ultima's meteor attack, 25points, not 250.
    You should be able to get every character maxed making the end of the game childs play
    This is a short version. This isnt a first playthrough thing, you're kinda speed running the game till the airship.

      @huwisel 5 лет назад +18

      Yes Leveling really high early on actually stunts the potential growth of your party members. Later in the game as you get new GFs and new abilities like str up+1 mag up+1 etc that permanently adds 1 point to the basic value of that particular attribute when the player levels up so if a party member is already at level 100 these GF abilities become useless. You can also take advantage of those abilities because it makes it easier to max those stats by using less potent magic and use more potent magic elsewhere. Those are just a few downsides to Leveling up high early.

    The card game can make or break your character builds. Decomposing the cards material are important. That’s how you get powerful.

    • @burger_kinghorn
      @burger_kinghorn 5 лет назад

      Rely on a mini game and subquest to build up your characters. Don't fight, gain exp, and level up to make them stronger like every single other RPG ever. Because the enemies get stronger too so you never have any advantage.
      Put in a Magic command but make it completely useless because it's a consumable item instead of having MP. It becomes your equipment so try and cast any spells and it weakens you.
      Square made some really weird decisions when it came to gameplay mechanics for FF8. I liked this story, setting, and music but overall I didn't like this game.

    Love it. I recently did a similar power level run by playing and modding cards right from the start like this (though I didn't know about changing the rules to All, I did focus only on getting certain cards rather than 99 of everything.) However I did wait to level Squall so I could get the Str power ups like how you describe at the end of the video.
    Back when the original game first came out, after I beat it for the first time, I immediately did a rerun where I leveled Squall to 100 with Ifrits Str level bonus, but didn't do any of the triple triad or card mods, and he's still OP through the rest of the game. Love it.

    In my playthroughs, right after learning Card, I go to the Training Center and battle Grats and card them until I hit the limit. Then when you try to Card them again, the animation will show you failing. But don't give up. The game determines beforehand what kind of card it will give you from Card, and then if you are already maxed, it fails the command. But this means that you can just stay in the fight and keep doing Card and when it works (like a 1/25 chance or something) you are guaranteed the Shumi Tribe card. 5 Shumi cards will Card Mod to the Gamblers Spirit which will teach another GF Card and you can Card grind even faster.

    I've watched a few of these now and I have been in awe of the patience and determination on your part then saw the ff8 one "ahh one I've done myself!"... nope I've only broken it the boring casual way before timber: levelling siefer on dollet until you can draw level 3 spells, save scumming killing the robot thing until it drops force armlet (to instantly get rinoa's ultimate weapon when she joins later) then grinding ap and cards (forever in ifrit's cave farming krysta cards for those holy spells whilst avoiding xp) then playing cards to fill the other junctions before catching the train
