I wonder if it would be worth it to stuff a couple more boogie boards along the kayak floor, maybe it would stiffen the whole thing up just a bit more?
I'm thinking of trying this. I tried with construction Styrofoam, but it broke when I got in the water. I'm thinking maybe some plywood, but wrapped with some Marine foam. If I get around to trying it I'll make an update 🤙
Great video with the mods, thanks for sharing! Quick question, do you think printing a thin floor of 8mm with ABS will add general robustness to the kayak and also stability for the modified seats? Could be a silly thought though…
So I tried something similar, I got some hard insulation foam for house construction and cut it to the shape of the kayak and tried to use it as a floor to provide support. Two issues arose, first when the kayak is in the water, it goes through a lot of flexion. It ended up breaking up the hard foam due to the stresses on the foam. Second, sitting on that foam for hours ended up being extremely uncomfortable even with the sit pad I was using. It could be sturdier with printed ABS, but I imagine it would be just as uncomfortable or more.
@@ForestDigitalYT Thanks for the quick reply! Thought also about those issues. My idea was that printed ABS is robust enough to temperature and tensions to various directions due to specific infill (like grid or higher percentage of infill) + I was thinking to attach a low stadium seat like the one you have bolt onto the ABS floor, expecting a more comfortable position - ambiguous about general stability as center of mass goes up. Anyway, I think worth to give it a try (in a few weeks and can keep you posted). Greetings from Greece:)
Stadium seat, great idea man. I have the same yak to fish the harbors here. Thx for the video.
thank you so much for sharing your modifications. This is what I was looking for.
Glad you like it!
I bought a 12 volt pump for inflating. It comes in handy cause it also deflates
Hmmm... that's a brilliant idea! Thanks for the tip. Gonna try that next time and save my back hahaha
I got me one and it’s fun
Heck yeah 👍
