My first acquaintance with the Everly Brothers when I was 12...and I was knocked out. I am 71 and still hooked to those beautiful harmony.
Each take is vocally perfect. You can't beat that.
The vocals didn’t vary from take to take. Amazing discipline.
Just look at that list of performers on this recording...just amazing. I had no idea Floyd Cramer was the pianist on this...or Chet Atkins was guitarist..This is a great piece of musical history.
Chet played on almost all their 50's stuff, he was actually responsible for their record contract.
Chet Atkins, 'a guitarist?' LOL!😂Yeah, I guess you could say that.
The Everly Brothers...Together Again...RIP Don & Phil
Ohhhh my gosh, the harmony (over and over) is so, so nice. Love them always, RIP Phil
The perfect pop song sung by the perfect singers. I have adored Don and Phil since I heard this song in 1959; 63 years and counting. Rest in peace, my friends 💔
This is where I get my fix of Don and Phil. Love hearing the songs over and over and the studio chatter... what a gift these sessions are to me and everyone else who loves them. 🎼🖤
Perfect two part harmony. Phils harmony cannot be overstated.
Their harmonies play like two great melodies rather than a melody+harmony. Too often the harmony feels like an afterthought but either of their voices and singing could take the lead and it would be beautiful. Love these guys.
They were excellent on everything they sang. Love them.
Perfection! Those voices did it right the first time and every time.
One of my favorite recordings to sing along with. LOVE the spot on harmonies!!!! When I'm singing with "the boys" for a brief time the year is 1959 again.
They couldn't fail with Chet Atkins to guide them great duo
Couldn't fail with Jerry Allison on drums and Sonny Curtis on guitar ya mean. ( THE Crickets). That's why the Evelys had them on the road with them as much as possible, unless the Crickets were to busy doing their own stuff!!
I could just stare at their socks for days, I loved them so much. This is their most beautiful song ever!! LOVE & MISS YOU GUYS!!! :0)
Their socks?
I'd rather stare at their faces
@@stewartfenton7660 I think she means anything associated w them
@@sspur2034 she hasn't seen my socks yet
Isn't it interesting how the end product sounds so easy-going; yet this shows how much effort actually went into it. Thanks for posting.
Ringo turned 19 when this was recorded. Phil's harmony is so amazing.
Don and Phil are the gold standard of popular music
So beautiful the Everly Brothers
I got to see them many years ago in Vancouver, B.C. They were the best act I ever saw, including Roy Orbison.
I saw them at an outside concert in Boston during the early 90's, life long dream fulfilled, the only thing I didn't like was that they made medleys of their slower songs.
@@laurentdubois2268 I'm not the who who wrote B. C.
BC = Before Christ ?
@@G8GT364CI haha
I saw them at a small venue outside Detroit during a reunion tour I believe in 83 or 84 and their voices and performance were tremendous !!!
And also Jerry Allison on drums and Sonny Curtis on guitar.
Sonny Curtis wrote their follow up hit to Cathy's Clown
Sonny Curtis wrote their follow up hit after Cathy's Clown...Walk Right Back..I remember buying those two records on 45 rpms their 1st recordings on Warner Bros. Who I believe gave them a million $$$ contract.Super good 💰 in 1960
Superb drumming by JI Allison absolutely superb. His drumming technique was absolutely perfect!! Bobby Vee once said that "Jerry Allison could play colours"..I know what he meant!!..Rest in Peace the Evelys and JI Allison!!
And of course JI on Cherished Memories at the last Eddie Cochran.Sessions.
@@kevincasson9848 And of course J.I on the last Eddie Cochran session drumming on Cherished Memories.
came back once more ...
how very interesting 'behind the scenes' footage is. shoes how much work goes into such productions, and how important the (knowledgeable) people 'behind the scene' really are.
“ There Voices One In (A) Million 😘… Lovely”… How I wish to (god) I could of gone to ONE concerts”.. I’m a lot younger ((but))…” I’m memorize by them/ With much respect🙏..
geweldig !!
They must be very tired of going over and over, it all sounds fabulous ❤️
Beautiful~~~~~~~~~Sherry.💞
Lived in Nashville for 2 years-my boss's apartment was in the same complex as Don's was. I stayed with my boss for a week-just hoping that maybe I'd catch a glimpse. I did get to meet Chet Atkins though - - this close to stardom. Hard to get over that both Don and Phil are now gone.
R.i.p. Phil.
What a Treasure! Thanks for sharing!
They made a mistake leaving Cadence. Warner Bros. didn't do them any favors with their over- productions and they lost the Bryants who fit them like a glove. Interesting to hear how the drums became more prominent every take until they got to the sweet version we all know.
They lost the Bryants when they left their manager Wesley Rose, the Bryants wrote for Acuff-Rose who had a monopoly on country music tunes back then and Don and Phil were contracted to Acuff-Rose also, they caused the EV's big problems and are responsible for ruining their momentum, by the time they got free of them music had completely changed (Beatles). www.savingcountrymusic.com/how-music-row-acuff-rose-killed-the-everly-brothers/
@@G8GT364CI a few thoughts:1- it's too bad the Everlys (and many, many young musicians) get roped into contracts with clauses and sub-clauses definitely NOT in their own interest. A contract sounds great to a young person, but can work against them too. Contract law is a specialty and anyone signing a contract should take the contract away from the office and have their own freshly hired contract lawyer review it and modify it.
2- what a bunch of lemmings 1960s fans must have been to throw away its own musical culture just because the beatles came to town. A lot of Beatle stuff is inferior, especially the sappy Paul McCartney nonsense (shudder). The Everlys and countless doo woppers were wiped out overnight thanks to the lemmings
Jerry Allison of the Buddy Holly and the Crickets on drums! Nashville session drummer Buddy Harman played on most of their hits.
I love their Warner stuff especially Gone Gone Gone. Dick Glasser was a GREAT producer and top flight musicians like Leon Russell, James Burton Hal Blaine jim Gordon etc. only made them better as time marched on. No they didnt have the hits like they did at cadence .
@@Marcel_Audubon Marcel, I agree with you (2), but surely it was more complex than that. I'd have hated to see the Everlys and others go down the psychedelic etc road, and the world would have done that with or without the help of the Beatles. Also, all those Bobbies and Jimmies were doing a lot to make things boring, with the help of the major labels, who wanted to see the back of that nasty R'n'R. At the time, have to admit, the Beatles did sound fresh and exciting to kids who didn't know any different. In my case, I soon got over it.
My first know- all comment in a while, thought I'd learned better. Please don't everybody yell too much.

Re Sonny Curtis on guitar and Jerry Allison on drums, this session was held (July 7, 1959) only 5 months after Buddy Holly died (February 3, 1959)
its great its good it was new
Really liked this. Thank you.
t r e a s u r e ... thanks ... :o)
Does anyone know the technical details of this session? Was it recorded live to 2-track, or did they have one of those fancy new Telefunken 4-track machines? What studio was it recorded at?
Poor kids over and over again
It must have been great for them to record with god - Chet Atkins I think I picked out his tone. They were amazingly consistent though. I think the drummer did contribute highly on this as he played a hook which is very prominent on the released version. I wonder if the lineup was the same on Poor Jenny one of their lesser known tracks but one I'm very fond of?
Chet produced and played on most of their early tracks. Poor Jenny is great, though Don and Phil didn't care much for the song, because they felt that if didn't catch it from the very beginning, you wouldn't get it. Buddy Harmon plays drums on that one, not Jerry Allison.
Jerry Allison is on drums ,Sonny Curtis on guitar,Floyd Cramer on Piano
Yes, Buddy Harmon plays on Poor Jenny, Alison on ('Til) I Kissed You.
❤❤❤❤❤
I do find this a great piece of musical history(don't get me wrong) but, just don't understand the need for the "do overs" ,seems like they could have used any one of them!
I agree, I have the session recordings and to me they sounded perfect on all of them. But love listening over and over so didn't bother me.
You people seriously think the drums sound the same on the early takes vs the last one!? They do make some pretty good hearing aids these days. Investigate one for yourself!
@@Marcel_Audubon here in Spain I have to pay for them myself, and I keep losing them. But I can hear the difference.
What cd is this from?
Who is playing the bass ?
Floyd Chance
Engineer Bill Porter with the take slate.
Why isn’t Phillips name on the record, I only see Don on the record?
Don wrote it.
Because Don wrote the song.

Who could that be? Haha sounds like Phil.
@@ma.victoriavargas4268 yeah I think it is! Whenever I come back to this video I have to hear that like 10 times
Maybe it’s not, let me listen to the bit before it
I think it’s J.I. Alison
No matter what phil would never do that don would though even though it wasn't don or phil
Sonny Curtis on guitar and Ji Allison on drums, simply Superb!!!
