That was a great tutorial. I have recently inherited all of my late fathers wood planes. I know how to use them but i didn't know how to sharpen them as my father always did that. Some of these planes have been passed down through 4 or more generations of my family and i didn't want to mess them up. I also inherited all of my fathers sharpening stones and honing guides so i will give it a go. Thanks for clearing up all the questions I had in my mind. I now have the knowledge and confidence to sharpen these 100+ year old plane irons. Thank you
I'm very glad that you came to youtube since i refuse to use tiktok and i've would have missed your content entirely, because you have become instantly one of my favourite social media person! You are just so real and about that old timey life. My best mate is also a "time traveller", and he is such a humble and great friend, very much like you strike to me. It's just the best way of life, hate the hectic nature of todays world. I hope you all the best, greetings from the north! 🙂🇫🇮
Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge! I have learned a lot about what you do and love it! I'm excited to restore my Grandfather's plane to see what I can do!
Thanks Eoin, I love your videos. A little bit of humour and a lot of priceless, excellent advice with no BS. Keep up the great advice lad, there are a lot of people who truly appreciate it. Cheers from Australia!
Love your videos and love all the information you bring to the videos too. Everytime I watch a video from you, it's like I'm finding woodworking all over again. Keep up the amazing content, we need it. Especially on the hand tools, very good seeing hand tools being used nowadays. Not better, but, puts you on a closer level with your project. More of yourself, in the making of it
This video tells me what I need to know about sharpening. May I ask you about another topic? Apple cider vinegar and steel wool for darkening oak veneer.
Honestly love your videos man. If I could give one tip it would be to try and include more angles of what you are doing. Maybe look at some of pablo cimadevila videos he uses some amazing angles and you can really see what's going on
Another great video! Going to look into your videos but was wondering if you have a video that goes into depth about what planes a beginner should try to acquire? Also, do you ever work with “green wood”?
Im new to your youtube but been around for a bit cause of your tiktok and im not sure if im hooked on your videos for the content or the beautiful irish accent (im from the U.S. but i have a lot of irish in me blood)
I love your content! I am in love with the beauty of wood working though I’m not sure I’d have the patience to ever do it myself or the skill. How did you get into it? Also your country is so beautiful your lucky to get to wake up there every day. It’s on my top 5 list of places I want to visit one day
Like any skill it's just a lot of practise, that you have interest is a good start. With RUclips you'll have pretty quick resources for any question you'll run into. My first couple tries at boxes were absolute disasters. Now they're something friends and family are pretty excited to receive. Just remember, you don't need expensive power tools - anything can be done by hand, just more slowly.
I loved your video! Thanks so much. I have louvre doors I'm using for my closet. I'm installing them with flush hinges. I don't want to go back to the carpenter I paid to cut a 1/2 inch 1.27 cm off for me. I was disappointed. I'm thinking, I'll buy a hand plane and shave 3 to 4 mm off myself. I am a lady, I can be handy, I used a hand plane years ago, I believe I can do it well. It's too tight on the frame not 100% straight, it's too tight mid doors to the bottom. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and for what Hand Plane and size I should buy? My doors are real wood 78 inches long 198.12cm
“this is my new favorite youtube maker. he’s a hand-tool exclusive woodworker out of ireland. been binging his stuff for hours.” “what’s he saying?” “i have no idea”
Hey Eoin, I don't know how active you still are on RUclips, but there seems to be someone reposting all of your TikTok content under a "pintofplane" RUclips account. A short posted there got a few killing views which is how I found out about it. Sad to hear the channel I followed appears to be a fake one, but happy you exist here nonetheless!
Thanks lad, I have been aware of this account for two days now, its been reported countless times yet still it has not been terminated. very frustrating. but thanks for letting me know.
TikTok is the wrong platform for all content 😏 Love the long format videos. Keep’em coming 👍🏻
Without tiktok I would never of seen this bloke but do enjoy longer format
I keep trying to tag you in those bs tool videos I see coming around, Eoin is doing so well so far, you both are RUclipsrs I love watching!

Love the videos Eoin. I think a box of flat caps with the brand pint of plane on the back will sell well at the ploughing championships.

Great video Eoin 👍👍
My grandad always taught me to rest a plane on its side to protect that lovely sharp blade
I sharpen to 27deg. with no secondary bevel and am very happy with the planing.

chrome polish as found in petrol station or car parts store, autosol is one, they work ok as stopping compund as a start
What do you use for lubricant? Does it differ between diamond and other honing stones?
i was taught always to lay a plane on its side so as not to damage the cutting edge.
...but in practice, place it sole down on a clean worktop - blade and, more mportantly, sole protected!
What plane is it that you were sharpening?
When he starts shaving his chest we might have to intervention, !
Erin/@pintofplane hey you should make chat or try to make a wooden toy plane ✈️

hiya
I just plane my face these days
Tell all those people asking for a hair reveal on TikTok to check out your RUclips. It’ll pump those number up buddy
Eion. This is important! A RUclips account is stealing your videos and putting them on his own. “Caters Videos”
Put away the leg fella. You're inflaming the ardour of a billion elderly women who now do wood work. More power to your elbow
Rofl...shaved his leg hair...@EoinReardon thanks for the laugh.
Love the hat btw
