Nah, just a huge (550) motor directly tied to the axle. The driveshaft is at close to 10,000 rpm at those speeds and the trick is getting everything to hold together long enough and keeping it in a strait line long enough to measure the speed...and then not destroying everything in a crash. Best I've done in the C24 is 29 mph with a 3S lipo. It destroyed the motor controller and locked the motor, then crashed very hard...I think the only thing that survived out of that car was the rear axle, radio, and servo.
