8:18 for those who don't know, Playtronic was to Nintendo what Tectoy was to Sega here in Brazil. They were a partnership between toy manufacturer Estrela and electronics manufacturer Gradiente (the same one you can see the logo on that Phantom System) that handled the distribution of Nintendo consoles and games over here. After a while the partership ended and Gradiente kept going as Nintendo solo distributor for a few more years, until the beginning of the GameCube era, IIRC.
This. Talking about Nintendo stuff, up until 1993, we only had NES clones, such as the Phantom System, Top Game, etc. Then Playtronic started officially distributing Nintendo stuff in Brazil, so we got officially licenced NES, SNES, Game Boy, Virtual Boy, etc. Both games and consoles. Thing is, unlike Tec Toy, Playtronic didn't mod the physical appearance of Nintendo consoles. They were virtually identical to US models, aside from a few stickers, translated instruction booklets, etc.
My pink Hello Kitty Sega Dreamcast is my favorite looking console!! It's just so perfect. I also have the clear green Halo Xbox which is right up there with it.
The Phantom System was awesome! Wonder why they had to do a Clone for the NES? Whatever the reason for the NES not officially going there maybe had something to do with them loving Sega more? Guess i'm going to have to...just figure it out! Ha-Ha!
We had protection laws in place that would not allow technology imports, the company selling technology products must be national and the product should be produced or at least assembled in Brazil. Gradient tried to negotiate a partnership with Nintendo but they failed. So they took the matters in their own hands and cloned the system, other companies already did it successfully in other countries, so why not? It sold well but eventually Tectoy made a partnership with Sega, and despite they being late, the Genesis already was around the corner and phantom system already started to take the market, they still managed to dominate the market, Nintendo saw what was happening and in the end they closed a deal with gradient and the nes came officially to Brazil by a subsidiary called Playtronic. Too late, the nes ended up not being a great success, the Sega/Tectoy names were consolidated, and the Genesis ended up ahead of the SNES, it was also a close battle like in the US, but a battle Sega won in the end. Or not, in the end not even Tectoy managed to make the Saturn sell well here, it was a very expensive console for us, and the Genesis/master system still managed to continue selling more units than the newer Saturn, as a budget consoles for lower incoming families. For people who had more disposable money to expend with entertainment, the playstation was a better choice because it was still the cheapest option of the newer consoles, and it was hacked very early allowing people to play pirated games, saving money in the end. The poor security measures and the cheap/easy to copy game format was what really made playstation popular here. I was not a big fan of Sony, the Saturn was my console of that generation, but even I in the end ended up also buying a hacked playstation. It was really a good deal.
always cool to see stuff like this! never knew about the brazillian atari 2600 though! knew about the SMS and its long history over there though, like that official port of SF2, that kinda blew me away when I found out about it!
I’m 99% sure I saw those blister DC packs at K-Mart. I lived in NYC the entire time the DC was on sale, and in the city we had limited places to buy DC games, but we did have a tiny game section at K-Mart, that’s why I think it has to be K-Mart.
Cool! I have a brazilian Phillips Odyssey (Magnavox Odyssey 2) that almost works.. they keyboard is busted. I bought another used chassi for it but.. the keys there also don't work! I might as well learn how to draw a new circuit board for it. If you ever drop by BR lands, I'd be happy to show you. Be wary, I like to mod so I added Atari/MS controller ports and Composite Out xD
What I don't make since is that the Pluto sound have called porject Uranus and the Dremcast sound have been called porject Neptune before they thier real names. See if they where follwing the salor system. The SEGA pluto wound have been after the SEGA Dreamcast.
Hey Adam, cool collectibles. I like the clear plastic Dreamcasts, both the Sakura Wars and Hello Kitty ones look great. I think the Hello Kitty variants also came with special mice and keyboards. If I settle down one day maybe I'll try to get one:) One for the algorithm.
Im still looking for the PS4 littlebigplanet 3 Brazilian retail game as its the LATAM edition that was recently delisted from PSN. If you know anybody Adam that might have it
@Cus2omBuilds It's a proprietary format called the Super Disc. Like the Sega CD. They just didn't make any official releases, however the source code was dumped and a fan made game called Super Boss Gaiden was produced for it.
That was so cool to watch, especially the Playstation Zero. That alone gave rise to a whole new sector of the gaming market and i will forever be grateful to Nintendo for it's betrayal of Sony.
I won’t be impressed until you hunt down a Gamesphere
IT’S SPHERICAL!
Until then I am less than a man, I agree.
Okama has the last sealed one under lock and key.
@@AdamKoralik LOL 😆 ! NEVER !!!
C'mon Gamesphere

It is a very convoluted history, and I'm resuming it from memory of my infancy. So don't take my word as gospel. But it was more or less like I said.
That's amazing, man! Thank you for sharing! I had never even seen half of these!
Portuguese language knowledge pays off for an ardent Sega fan.
That brand new Nintendo PlayStation controller was awesome to see.

Brazil continues to not be a real place I love it
Hahahaha.
I was able to pick up a copy of that Cybernaut Laserdisc awhile back. Just a display piece at this time. 👍
Right on time for my lunch break!
Is the Bionic Gabbo!
That Brazilian console had a very nice trim.

You might wanna try that Sega Laserdisc with the Sega add-on module?
That was the Sega PAC. We know now it's an unreleased Halcyon game, but there's a second part that contains game data that just doesn't exist.

Nintendo PlayStation is back, baby!
One day I will go to a gaming convention
That Saturn karaoke machine is sick
Nice super rare consoles Adam 🎮👑💯
Why did Sega make a Saturn based on Derby the house elf?

Me personally no, NT Games might.

Not in my experience, no.
Nah it cant be....Are you still on youtube? I used to watch your channels years ago. You were obsessed with Dreamcast etc
Yeah, you asked me this same question like a year ago.
@@AdamKoralik Lololo I know. Sega announced new Crazy taxi, jet set radio, golden axe games a few months ago. How cool is that?
