Lumpy mashed potatoes aren't good. I don't enjoy a smooth, creamy bite of mashed potatoes getting ruined by a lump in the middle of it. Now I also enjoy rustic SMASHED potatoes where the point is specifically to have chunky potatoes. Especially if you leave the skin on. But having a 90% smooth mashed potato with random lumps in it is just unpleasant. Pick a lane.

He uses a bit of cream cheese, butter, and milk, seasonings, and he boils his potatoes in heavily seasoned water. Not the most health-conscious of recipes, no, but dang if it isn’t the best!
Yeah, I prefer my potatoes boiled in chicken bouillon; bonus points for dropping a few whole, peeled cloves of garlic in as well. Chives/scallions and/or cheese often get stirred in after mashing.

He doesn't follow a true recipe. But I can tell you the ingredients. All to taste. Baked potatoes, peeled and chopped however you like Mayo Mustard Sweet relish Chopped freshly cooked bacon (another suggestion I made) Sometimes he'll add some of the brine from the relish if it's too dry

Exactly. My husband loves lumpy smashed potatoes cuz then he's sure they're real. Also, I leave the skins on. It doesn't really affect the flavor, and you still get the vitamins. 😋
He is obviously NOT a Chef. A Chef knows that if you wrap a potato with foil and cook it in the oven, you will have made a steamed potato, not a baked potato.

Those look great (and I would never turn down mashed potatoes) but from I grew up eating unpeeled slightly lumpy mashed potatoes on the farm, and I find that I prefer them that way. It's all in the gravy. If do it right you'd eat a raw potato and not know it. I could just be hungry enough to eat whatever.

I bought a ricer specifically to make gnocchi. Made them twice in 3 or 4 years, and they turned out fabulous. HOWEVER, it was a lot of work in my little kitchen. Now, when making MASHED potatoes, I just smash them (I like the lumps), but I just might pull out that ricer again, thanks to El Chefo! 😉
That's a bad idea as it will make the mash rubbery. The starch that's left in the potatoes will be worked in. Potato ricer is the only way. Also I disagree with this post. The mash would be too starchy even without the blender. This technique is better for blinis or gnocchi. Nice guy but his methods of cookery are debatable.
