  • Today we bring you our video from the amazing and incredible Scarborough Castle. Recently we visited, and were fascinated to find out the rich history of this fortification. It has been besieged a number of different times, in particular in the English Civil War, and was even fired upon by German Battleships in World War 1. It is estimated that around 500 shells were fired upon the castle. Is it England's toughest castle? It's definitely up there. Join us as we explore thousands of years of history, and give you a tour of the magnificent Scarborough Castle.

I think as a Roman signal station it's primary purpose would be to pass messages along the east coast, to and from the North Sea end of Hadrian's Wall, and perhaps even to the legionary station at York, which could be done very quickly and probably faster than a messenger on horseback could travel.
Enemy ships were unlikely as this was before the Saxon and Viking invasions, and the Roman navy were active along Britain's east coast. Scarborough harbour was possibly established at this time, though it was customary to haul boats out of the water or beach them, for which Scarborough has two perfect beaches.

Great video but I feel you have mist a hell of a lot of history regarding the castle since it’s initial construction

Oh nice! Pretty interesting! Scarborough Castle's certainly got some history. Surprised you didn't find some older stuff too as it's been settled since Roman times! Thanks for the comment mate.
