  • SVRA ran the support races for the Lime Rock Trans Am weekend. I wasn't going to race but they let us register just for race day so I did it. It was 45-years to the day since I saw my first race at Lime Rock with my dad, my friend Mark, and his dad Lee (RIP), so it was like a childhood dread come true. Some dreams turn to nightmares and this day was full of bumping, grinding, and a hard hits in the enduro and second race (see videos • SVRA Lime Rock Enduro and • SVRA Lime Rock Sprint ... ). My group was mixed with open wheel cars and that was a mistake as you'll see. This first race started wet and it was all I could do not to run over the rear tires of the open wheel cars. I won't run with open wheel cars again.

Hi David, Thanks for sharing your race footage. This is Mark Clark (red/white #5 Crossle Club Ford in your footage). I agree that mixing miatas with Formula Fords isn’t ideal. We open wheel guys wonder if fendered cars can see us as we approach to pass, especially if they are tussling for position with each other. In this race, we were all dealing with a drying track and several of the cars decided not to qualify on Saturday due to the heavy rain so, there were fast drivers/cars in the back of the pack and improving lap times as conditions improved. With such different cars on the track and other factors, everyone had to be extra cautious. Thanks for your part in making it a safe race.

Hi Mark, thanks for commenting! I was wondering if I'd be able to see you too. I angled my right side mirror down to help with that. It was very difficult to judge the distance of an open wheel car in front of the Miata because as I got closer the back of the open wheel car would disappear! I can't believe I didn't hit that Lotus on the last lap. It must've been very close!!! Some Miata drivers tend to move around a lot and toss their cars. I was afraid some were going to hip-check some of the open wheel cars after bouncing off curbs. I'll respond to your comment in the other video as I think there are things the organizers could've done to make this a safer situation.
