  • In the second sprint race I was once again held up by an open wheel car, though you won't see it because my front cam didn't turn on. On about the third lap I was following the open wheel car trying to get by an MGB when he backed out of the pass. This caused me to have to make a slight lift of the gas and around I went. I spun off to the inside and on to the wet grass which took me for a backwards ride into the tire wall!

Hi David, Thanks for sharing this race too. Mark Clark #5 red/white club Ford commenting again. Sorry to see your car went into the tire wall in the esses. A fairly heavily dented silver Miata dropped fluid just after the left-hander causing a few cars to get loose creating a bit of a daisy chain of slowing cars. Regarding your thought about fastest lap times vs. finishing position, I’m not sure it would have helped much as there were open wheel cars and Miatas with similar lap times after race one. Perhaps a staggered start would have been the right approach for our combined group?

Hi again, Mark! Thanx for the insight as to why I may have spun. I wish I had my forward facing video with my data but that didn't record. I had been following an open wheel car and we were both trying to get by an MGB. I recall the open wheel car backing out of the attempted pass and I thought I had lifted slightly causing the spin. However, listening to the video you can hear I'm on power as the rear comes around so there's a lot of merit to the idea that it was fluid on the track which caused me to go around...and there may have also been a slight lift which shifted weight off the rear. We all know how good a racer's memory is about an incident! LOL!! I'm just glad I missed that Armco!!!
If the second race was gridded on lap times, I would've been 5 places further up than I started. That certainly would've helped. Also, a smart racer, knowing he couldn't advance position much would've hung back for clear track and put in some burner laps, rather than try to fight a dangerous battle between open wheels and fenders. However, I also like your idea of a staggered start. This is the first time I've raced with SVRA and don't know how they've handled this in the past.
