Mr. Top hat I think you got the references in Haradas comment kinda wrong I agreed with the video, but the movie reference I think has to do with how the industry keeps pushing its audience until it pushes back, by not buying its products and crashing it.

Tekken 8 destroyed all the trust and money I threw at Tekken 7; I didn't even finish playing T7 in the last year of it's final season, but I bought all the DLC to show my support--T8 just went downhill and felt like a step backward in how it's been monetized. It feels like BAMCO wanted to ensure they could cash dime it at every corner. You can feel the corporate grab at play.
Most of their other projects designed to siphon money kinda failed so now they're forcing T8 to pick up the slack generating revenue. Corporate greed man

Capcom censored or altered parts of the MvC collection because they were "problematic", if anything Harada has done more for Tekken than Capcom did for its IP's.
That's mostly because of namco Bandai not Harada personally. He might be the director for tekken but that doesn't mean he's at the top. It was a similar story with Ono and street fighter where he said after super street fighter 4 he was hoping to make 5 or bring another Capcom franchise back (it was darkstalkers as he even did a pannel) yet the head of Capcom at the time Keiji Inafune wanted to milk that cow dry so he had to make an arcade edition and ultra street fighter 4 without ever being able to touch darkstalkers. Now even if he was head of the company you'd still have to worry about your share holders and branches even as you can see from mid to late 90s Sega and it's console releases.
That would be an IMPROVEMENT to the modern garbage that we get these days...give me interactive FMV games like we had back on the Sega CD and 3DO, games like that with modernized features would be AWESOME!!! 😁
@cheapR1 - Well like I said, Sega and Panasonic/The 3DO Company...I don't think that Sony licensed many of these games on their systems until recently, apparently we've been getting remastered versions of many of them on Steam and modern consoles as well as Switch. Night Trap, Corpse Killer, Double Switch, Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, Time Gal, Ninja Hayate, Dragon's Lair Trilogy, etc.

He's just well respected(and friends) with the director and the dev team so he listens to them sometimes and pulls strings to get what they need. They're still very much under the Namco-BANDAI(emphasis mine. If you know, you know) umbrella and as such still needs to follow office politics. I will go up to Harada and btcih and moan about the gameplay, he talks to the people that handles that. But I will not lay a single blame on him for the monetization, the predatory mtx and the dark patterns in the game. Those are handled by the sales and marketing department and those are handled by the suits. Office politics sucks major balls.
He nearly killed Soul Calibur when he was co-producer / co-director of 4 and/or 5. Allowing Eddy Kilmonger? Needlessly overmilking the saga of the Mishima mankids? No long-lasting smartphone game spin-offs? He still is not absolved.
I love fighting games but the trouble i have is this Street fighter 6 base game 59.99 Year 1 dlc 29.99 year 2 dlc 29.99 ( though they have Ultimate versions for each pass for 49.99) Tekken 8 base game 69.99 and the Year 1 pass ( which i could only see as part of the deluxe upgrade ) 39.99 Mortal kombat 1 base game 49.99 Kombat pack 1 29.99, Shang tsung 7.99 and the Khaos Reigns Expansion which has characters and new story 49.99 So basically you are paying either half the price of the full game or near full price of the full game for these DLC for less then 1/4 of the content not to mention all the games i mentioned in this have Battle passes and stuff you can buy with real money in them like costumers, premium currency etc. Often they will have the base game at a discount and perhaps the first season of content but still it all adds up and to say that price for games have not gone up is a lie just they get you in other ways after paying for the base game
They pretty much killed the genre at this point, without counting microtransactions and freaking in-game ADS, we are talking about spending around 300 dollars for the full experience (5 bucks for an extra color, lol)
This is the reason why I stopped playing new fighting games that I enjoy. I just can't support these very greedy price structures. Either make the games free to play, and then milk the stupid players for money. Or make it a premium 59.99$ experience, and charge less for the DLC. Like 19.99 for a normal Season Pass, and 29.99$ for the "Deluxe One". That would include all the skins/stages in it. And don't get me even stared for charging money for color swaps. So yea, with the way the industry is right now, I just wait for a Ultimate Complete Edition down the line. Even if it's not gonna be 100% complete, it should give me 80%-90% of all the content.

The ones I am familiar with which are Skull Girls and SF6, are certainly overpriced, but if you use sales like the ones listed in the links under this guys videos, you can get pretty much all the characters from the various season passes for like 80 or 90 bucks. It's still too much, but it's not like $300. Edit: I take it back. It looks like he sold out since I last looked. There used to be a solid deal on the base game with the ultimate season passses.
Don't know why every game has to be a triple AAA game or a crappy mobile game. Other than some remakes of old games seems there's a middle ground of games that hasn't been tapped yet.
I don't get it. Tekken is at fault for almost all of this. The core game hasn't changed since Tekken 5, they've added tekken coins and battlepasses, and they've added so many systems on top of the fundamental design to tilt the game towards beginner players that there's barely any point in playing it anymore. But hey, i guess the cast isn't "woke", but if that is the bar, it's set very low.
The core gameplay if anything has gotten worse since 5, worse movement, comeback mechanics, combo extension mechanics that no one likes, neutral skip mechanics. No one likes any of the characters made after DR. Tekkens a joke

I mean this as respectfully as I can possibly put this: But hearing Harada say this in the wake of Tekken 8's abysmal gameplay, over-the-top gimmicks, and hyper-monetization rings hollow. We've gotten so many patches and add-ins this year that it points to either Tekken 8 not being a complete product or they're jostling the players and asking them to spend money on microtransactions in an attempt to incrimentally bump up sales. We need to do better.

It's very ironic that he's being considered "Based" when even Tekken has fallen victim to BS industry politics and tactics which started back with Tekken 7 but Tekken 8 has seemed to continue these scummy tactics. I really hate what they did to T8. I bought the Ultimate edition was surprised in the end that it never had all the things I want like early access for battle pass, unique cosmetics etc. And also the gameplay is kind of dumb too. Rage arts and heat system is so OP and in my opinion not necessary.
I don't mind rage arts, but I hate the heat smashes from the heat system so much. When characters do heat smash, it looks like a mini rage art that's so OP. The only thing I like about heat is that it modifies some attacks, but heat smashes are the worst things ever. Too frustrating, too powerful, too safe, too free, especially for the broken characters.

That's mostly because of namco Bandai not Harada personally. He might be the director for tekken but that doesn't mean he's at the top. It was a similar story with Ono and street fighter where he said after super street fighter 4 he was hoping to make 5 or bring another Capcom franchise back (it was darkstalkers as he even did a pannel) yet the head of Capcom at the time Keiji Inafune wanted to milk that cow dry so he had to make an arcade edition and ultra street fighter 4 without ever being able to touch darkstalkers. Now even if he was head of the company you'd still have to worry about your share holders and branches even as you can see from mid to late 90s Sega and it's console releases.

@cheapR1 - Well like I said, Sega and Panasonic/The 3DO Company...I don't think that Sony licensed many of these games on their systems until recently, apparently we've been getting remastered versions of many of them on Steam and modern consoles as well as Switch. Night Trap, Corpse Killer, Double Switch, Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, Time Gal, Ninja Hayate, Dragon's Lair Trilogy, etc.

I love fighting games but the trouble i have is this
Street fighter 6 base game 59.99 Year 1 dlc 29.99 year 2 dlc 29.99 ( though they have Ultimate versions for each pass for 49.99)
Tekken 8 base game 69.99 and the Year 1 pass ( which i could only see as part of the deluxe upgrade ) 39.99
Mortal kombat 1 base game 49.99 Kombat pack 1 29.99, Shang tsung 7.99 and the Khaos Reigns Expansion which has characters and new story 49.99
So basically you are paying either half the price of the full game or near full price of the full game for these DLC for less then 1/4 of the content not to mention all the games i mentioned in this have Battle passes and stuff you can buy with real money in them like costumers, premium currency etc.
Often they will have the base game at a discount and perhaps the first season of content but still it all adds up and to say that price for games have not gone up is a lie just they get you in other ways after paying for the base game
They pretty much killed the genre at this point, without counting microtransactions and freaking in-game ADS, we are talking about spending around 300 dollars for the full experience (5 bucks for an extra color, lol)
This is the reason why I stopped playing new fighting games that I enjoy. I just can't support these very greedy price structures. Either make the games free to play, and then milk the stupid players for money. Or make it a premium 59.99$ experience, and charge less for the DLC. Like 19.99 for a normal Season Pass, and 29.99$ for the "Deluxe One". That would include all the skins/stages in it. And don't get me even stared for charging money for color swaps.
So yea, with the way the industry is right now, I just wait for a Ultimate Complete Edition down the line. Even if it's not gonna be 100% complete, it should give me 80%-90% of all the content.

The ones I am familiar with which are Skull Girls and SF6, are certainly overpriced, but if you use sales like the ones listed in the links under this guys videos, you can get pretty much all the characters from the various season passes for like 80 or 90 bucks. It's still too much, but it's not like $300.
Edit: I take it back. It looks like he sold out since I last looked. There used to be a solid deal on the base game with the ultimate season passses.
Don't know why every game has to be a triple AAA game or a crappy mobile game. Other than some remakes of old games seems there's a middle ground of games that hasn't been tapped yet.

I don't get it. Tekken is at fault for almost all of this. The core game hasn't changed since Tekken 5, they've added tekken coins and battlepasses, and they've added so many systems on top of the fundamental design to tilt the game towards beginner players that there's barely any point in playing it anymore. But hey, i guess the cast isn't "woke", but if that is the bar, it's set very low.
The core gameplay if anything has gotten worse since 5, worse movement, comeback mechanics, combo extension mechanics that no one likes, neutral skip mechanics. No one likes any of the characters made after DR. Tekkens a joke

It's very ironic that he's being considered "Based" when even Tekken has fallen victim to BS industry politics and tactics which started back with Tekken 7 but Tekken 8 has seemed to continue these scummy tactics. I don't mind rage arts, but I hate the heat smashes from the heat system so much. When characters do heat smash, it looks like a mini rage art that's so OP. The only thing I like about heat is that it modifies some attacks, but heat smashes are the worst things ever. Too frustrating, too powerful, too safe, too free, especially for the broken characters.
